Street Fighter x Tekken Box Art

Serious non-troll question I've wanted to ask since this game was first announced: Does Tekken have enough...cultural currency with North American gamers today for this to be a success? Does the average gamer even know who Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams are?

I mean, game looks great. I just don't want it to fall into the Tatsunoko trap where everyone who walks into a game store just eyeballs it and asks "what the fuck is it?"

Also, love the boxart, but why does the game's title appear again underneath the logo? lol
Tekken 6 was Namco's most successful title that fiscal year. Sure, it didn't put up Tekken 3 numbers, but I think the franchise is still pretty well-known.

Why is Hwoarang not wearing his traditional Tae-Kwon-Do outfit as standard one? That's fucking bullshit.

He looks like he's about to take a nap while Honda fans him.

Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be DLC for a nominal fee.

Just remember how big the Tekken games were back when the PS1 was out. Even though I grew up salivating at the thought of playing Street Fighter II on my SNES, I imagine there are enough people who grew up playing Tekken.

I'd say yes. At this point Tekken is as established as any other major fighter around. Of course comparing it to Street Fighter in terms of popularity or mindshare is crazy, but it's been in the game since shortly after Virtua Fighter and is arguably more popular than that series worldwide.

As far as success that all depends on Capcom's expectations. I believe they deemed TvC a success. I think since it's new and cool-looking even if people aren't familiar with the Tekken characters they can at least appreciate the fact that there's this new Street Fighter being released that has crazy gameplay and weird new characters. You don't have to be a Tekken fan.

I'd say, yes. Maybe not the name, but at the very least I'm sure they'll know they are from some fighting game that they may or may not have played.

It's cropped from the PS3 version.

Edit: Oops, already was in the OP. No I'm not taking it out.
