I'm a casual fighting fan. I was happy MvC3 was going to have character DLC because then I could just buy the characters I wanted. And then the only 2 DLCs were characters on the disk (maybe I'm wrong about that) and they're releasing a sequel IN THE SAME YEAR THE GAME CAME OUT. That's why I'm mad. I was going to spend maybe $20 on DLC. Now Capcom is getting $0 from me.SolarPowered said:Not everyone on GAF is a hardcore gamer. There are probably tons of casual fighting game fans that only buy something if they really like it and I can imagine that a lot of folks feel(subjective stuff here) burnt after the whole MvC3 thing.

Have you christened the UMvC3 thread yet? Folks were asking if you would drop by haha.
Yeah, it sucks if you were hoping for DLC. The wait in the main thread was pretty grueling. You've got the right approach if you don't want to deal with their silliness though.Billychu said:I'm a casual fighting fan. Well... Capcom gives people a lot of ammo. It is what it is, I guess.Skilletor said:Just seems like people want to complain just to complain.

After the initial purchase of course....which I did get quite a a bit of use out of._dementia said:$60 - $25 + $15 = $50

Fucking hell capcom, why did you have to introduce the gem system?
Cels said:Actually, it's still 2011.

"The problem with systems like Gems in Street Fighter x Tekken is that they tend to achieve the opposite affects that designers are seeking," he said, "As they tend to overly complicate the process of punching another dude in the face. While it's not a genuine comeback mechanic, we've seen this situation before with Ultra Combos (Street Fighter IV) and X-Factor (Marvel vs Capcom 3), where a new gameplay system is introduced with the intent of making the game more accessible to newer or lesser skilled players, but really all it does is reset the gap on a larger scale and the rich tend to get richer."
"Gameplay mechanics like Gems are a lot like giving a civilian a sniper rifle," he added. "Yeah, they might shoot someone's eye out but they lack the tools to maximize its potential. Put it in the hand of a trained soldier, however, and the damage that weapon can inflict is far more significant. So while you can argue that a Gem like auto-block or some sort of massive power buff may make things easier for a new player to mount a convincing offensive; just imagine when you give those same tools to the likes of Justin Wong or Daigo Umehara."
Gems don't activate randomly. That would be like calling Xfactor random.ThoughtsOfSpeaking said:I think this part of the article sums the whole thing up nicely :-
What id add to like to add to that when you have two players of equal skills, things like gems lead to wins based on randomness, not who played/read the opponent better.
The whole thing just becomes pointless.
Super Street Fighter X Tekken: Arcade Edition is already on the disc, you just need to buy a $30 key to unlock it.Gez said:Keywords
It's Crapcom x Scamco, of course a Super version is coming out.
a bunch of dlc that won't work on sf x tekken 2 so that they can resell it all over againArjanN said:I don't see what so unbelievable about the no disc statement. They'll just sell a bunch of DLC that you'll need to buy to keep up with the community. So they'll get your money anyway.
Seems like a really really easy way to devalue a series/franchise quickly. The magic in the numbered releases that it tells people they are in for a major overhaul. Messing with the traditional numbered titles is probably the worst possible thing they could do besides DLC stat upgrades(Worst case scenario for gems) for fighters.polyh3dron said:yeah no disc based updates because the disc based update will be called sf x tekken 2 so its a WHOLE NEW GAME but not really
wastedyears said:Ok, great. Everyone just stop buying 2D fighting games from Capcom, because that will make things better. Then we can all go back to playing the same game for five or ten years because no one else will be making any 2D fighting games worth a damn. Capcom needs to make money, (apparently a lot of money) on their fighters, or they just won't produce them anymore. Is that what everyone wants? We can go back to the good ol' days of maybe having one good Mortal Kombat game per decade, and hope that ASW doesn't go out of business. If you want new 2D fighters to play, then you need to support the few companies that are still making them.

That would have been hilarious. Would be nice to see Ono troll Capcom for once.onQ123 said:what did he suppose to say don't buy this game wait until we release a better one with more fighters
If we decide to create a new version of the game, we will go with the Street Fighter IV series route
That's the best part.toasty_T said:Street Fighter IV -> Super Street Fighter IV
wat?
If we decide to create a new version of the game, we will go with the Street Fighter IV series route, by providing online update patches for the game.

Are you ...me ?Brera said:I bought SF4 and SSF4 with no qualms.
Didn't buy MvC3 as I knew MvC3 would get an upgrade and I didn't like the series enough to buy the 1st.
I''ll be buying SF V Tekken though!

I am passing on UMVC3. I am spending that money on KOF instead. Even after KOFXII, I'd trust SNK to make a good game before I'd trust Capcom. That's how bad Capcom's 2011 has been.
If Capcom quits making fighters it opens the door for someone new.
