Stuff in games that was left on the disk/cartridge

How come it was denied access?

If I remember correctly, it was a time issue; they game needed to be out at a certain point, there were priorities on what needed to be finished for the game, and the Snow Queen Quest was an optional side quest that could be cut without doing serious harm to the game as a product.

Didn't a South Park episode end up on a Stormfront game's disk? Disk padding in the PS2 days was the wild west. :lol

EDIT: Beaten and wrong

What about the Ghost Town in GTA III that you could get to by flying the Dodo?

Wasn't it basically the "set" used for the opening cutscene? I remember you couldn't land there and if you flew too low or under the island it would just respawn you on the ground.

Also that video shows off another gem, the flying Dodo. IIRC, the Dodo was gimped after 9/11 to prevent people from crashing it into buildings or some shit. But if you could figure out the physics of it you could fly it eternally. I remember wowing my friends with that back in the day :lol

They'd be like "why are you getting in that thing? you crash as soon as you ta OH MY GOD WHAT"

edit: Here's a video of a PC mod that allows you to actually walk around on it

The Koopalings were supposed to be in Super Princess Peach for the DS.
Few know why they were axed.

There's a bunch of stuff in secret of mana. As some of you may know It was supposed to be released on the Super Nintendo disc drive, but when that was canned the team had too cut a lot, and a lot of the stuff is still in the cartridge. There was an extremely good thread on Gamefaqs (one of the only 2 ones there) that had everything they took out of the game and speculation.
I'd really like to learn more about this.

A lot of voices (music) in MGS2 (Substance only, I believe).
The most interesting dialog, was
the press report of the Big Shell Crashing into NY
. I've never heard it in game, so I guess it was cut off.

That report was in Sons of Liberty and not in Substance. You can use VLC to watch it. It only shows the statue of Liberty.

in one page, this thread has blown my mind more than 10 pages of the game facts to blow your mind thread. holy shit.

i was so up on that sonic 2 video, but yeah, does look potentially fake. hope those KOTOR 2 people get the project tied up sometime soon.

It's fake but based on real left over assets. There were levels made by the American branch of Sonic Team, and most of them didn't make it. Such as, Wood Zone. I mean when you see the shitty Wood graphics, you'll see why it was axed. But those are real assets, they are in the Sonic 2 beta. A hacker just took the assets and built a stage around it.

The only level which was close to complete was Hidden Palace. In the beta you can play through most of it. But, again, if you just look at the quality of the stage you'll understand why it was cut.

It is in Substance. But now I know it is also on Sons of Liberty :D

Why is this left in? Is it lazyness or is it difficult to remove once it's there? (excuse me for being technically ignorant).
It takes time to remove, plus you may end up with additional bugs due to missing material.

Street Fighter IV has prefight title text that reads "Extra"
possibly a scrapped idea for a sudden death draw resolution match, who knows?

Why leave so much shit left unused on a N64 cartridge?

Probably because it is very difficult to rip data out of an N64 ROM since all of the data is kind of lumped together without any sort of sorting or order. Rather than risk causing glitches removing certain data, it was probably easier to just leave it in.

Anyway, here's the greatest unused gameplay feature ever!

BR_TRANSFORM2.jpg

Bottles' Revenge, a 99% complete counteroperative 2 player mode that was cut out of the final Banjo Tooie retail game, it even has complete cutscenes and dialogue! There is only one single enemy in the entire game that you cannot control (Supposedly this is the reason why it was not revived in the XBLA port)

Ballad of the Windfish - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

And yes, Goldeneye has TONS of shit left in it.
Hell, the back of the box shows the Spyder and a white suit model for Bond.

There's engouhg unsused stuff in the HL2 files to write a small book (or mod), unused weapons, crazy weapon models and animations(alyxs gun turns into a rifle) oh and of course the black hole grenade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62Dlheh5HbM&feature=related

It always confuses me to see something as polished at the black hole grenade, removed from the final game.

I wonder what the issues with it were? Does anyone in here know?

Haha I was going to post this too.

I'm pretty sure a tiny part of the ghost town is solid, but it's pretty much impossible to land on it and get out of the plane to stand on it. However I have another trick for you... Go to the airport with a tank. Turn on the low gravity and better handling cheats and turn the turret so it's facing backwards. Accelerate down the right hand runway while firing the gun and you'll take off. Very carefully adjust in the air so that you're facing Donald Love's skyscraper. If you angle everything perfectly, you'll be able to land on the roof and walk around his little rooftop garden. It's the only building that high up with collision detection and you can't get to it with the Dodo. Give it a shot. :)

Valve is one of the few developers who are willing to remove things if they beleive it'll negatively affect the game. THey probably couldn't figure out the best way to balance it so it's still cool, or have problems with what happens if you get caught in one, or if you use it near somethinbg you need to continue, what happens against striders, etc.

They removed the Hydra for similar reasons, it simply wasn't fun to fight against in 1st person.

Resident Evil 4 Trial Edition has the debug menu in the code, accessible if you change just 1 line of code on a text document. I did an incomplete feature on it ages ago here:
http://www.the-horror.com/index.php?id=features&s=re4demos&p=9

Theres also a load of text-only stuff that indicates map names for RE "3.5". Probably the COOLEST thing is equipable items like Heat Vision, Optical Camouflage (Yes, really), and "Slow", which gives you slow motion.

You can spawn enemies around if you mess around enough, which led to this:

The feather from Super Mario Kart was originally in Mario Kart 64, but they took it out when they saw it would break the game. But, you can still get it with an Action Replay.

The stuff in the WoW game files could go on and on for hours. Emerald Dream, instances, BGs, etc.

Some of the more interesting stuff:

Kalidar, looks like a BG.

Azshara Crater, unreleased Battleground.

emeralddream4.jpg

The Emerald Dream.

Outlands/Hellfire. In 2004 and before BC was even announced.

Some of the stuff in the game is crazy, it shows how much stuff they have either planned ahead or how they don't give up on something if they can't release it right away. They were already working on Outland before WoW hit it huge so it got completely redesigned for the expansion. Wonder if the same thing will happen with Emerald dream.

More here, but this is just some asshole complaining about all the unfinished stuff in the game and has no idea what he is talking about. He has a lot of cool screenshots though.

That blog's great, how the hell did he find all this stuff?

Why? I don't think that Rare put a fan parody with the original voices onto the SFA disc.
I used the words "seems like" and "or something." As in, 'similar to' or 'reminds me of.' I don't know how you can so badly misread only a couple words.

Another piece of data left on the Ocarina of Time cart was the Ocarina Pedestal. It looks like it was only used to open Jabu Jabu's mouth, so I guess it was a little pointless leaving it in.

I know that quite a few Dreamcast games had secret goodies hidden on their CD section like wallpapers, but I've gotten pretty interested in seeking out secret stuff on console game discs. The secret remix on the ps1 Symphony of the Night disc is really cool with Alucard's introduction too and even more do it.

KOTOR 2 and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines are well-known for having boatloads of half-finished stuff in the data files. Both have had fan patches attempting to restore the content. There's still a guy releasing VTMB patches to this day, and that game came out in 2004.

Which banjo? seems silly to not attempt to revive it or anything, such a waste.

Does Missingno count?
I'm not sure since it is a glitch and does seem to have some debug purposes (the hall of fame corruption seems to be due to some sort of data being written) and also the fact Missingno is a Bird type but there are some interesting items which were unused but still in the game data:
There are TM51-55 (they act the same as HM01-05 except they can only be used once...the HMs probably replaced them since you might like to change which HM slave you carry with you).
Also the Pokedex appears as an item (given how often you use the thing just having it as an menu option works out for the better)
In a similar sense, each of the badges were items for your inventory (like the Poedex it works out better them not taking up slots in your inventory)
Finally, there was an item called ?????? which acts in the same way as surf.

Apart from that I don't recall any other unused stuff in the orignal Pokemon game, just a lot of glitches...a lot.

Banjo-Tooie. Rareware games in the N64 erm seem to have a tendancy for leftovers and features to be completed and then scrapped (the perfect dark gameboy camera link-up being the most obuios one).

Didn't they remove the Perfect Dark face capture because Nintendo were worried about the media hopping on it after Colombine? Can't imagine what sort of quality the shots would have been in in-game.

That's right. The only data left in the game about the feature is the text so no chance of any hot coffee.

Oh and as for quality, I'm not soo sure how it but I'm pretty sure various press members faces are in the game including Shigeru Miyamoto and Matt Cassimara (I just know I spelt one of those wrong) faces were captured using the software.

There's a music video in one of the Xenogears disc containing the complete English rendition of "Two Pieces of Hearts" (or whatever that song was).

The entire Japanese audio track was left inside of the North American SotN disc. There's a recorded English audio track where Alucard kills Maria.
