Suikoden II |OT| The Affordable 108

Can anyone explain why the game is so good? I read the first few pages of the thread and the announcement one, no one has yet to delve into specifics on what makes it "the best rpg ever". I know there are loads and loads of characters, and they're not entirely flat, but that's about all I know.

Is the combat amazing? Great story? Plot twists? What does this game have that really sets it apart? Does the game actually still hold up today or does nostalgia carry it?

Sell me Gaf!

A+ story & characters, great battle system, some of the best & last 2d spritework that really feels like a generational leap from SNES/Genesis days, incredible music, top-notch presentation with no load times and battles being only a few seconds long quickness. Lengthy story, lots of secrets.

Basically everything about the game is perfect. There is no area where the game could be improved.

Suikoden 1 is a very rough version of all that. Think Shadow Hearts 1 -> SH2.

Heh I would argue with that. The translation is really bad and since the PSP port added widescreen AND 8-way directional movement those are both big improvements.

Otherwise you're spot on though.

They put the game at 9.99$ but I was still getting the error. Now they pulled it out again... I am confused... PS Blog just updated and it has the game at 5.99$...

Do ps1 games even drop in price in the PSN store? Is there any big name ps1 game that even got a price drop after it released for $10?

Sometimes, rarely. Final Fantasy ones drop about once a year and Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Vagrant Story (went to $1) dropped in price once (from what I remember). Still waiting for Xenogears to drop. There were some others that dropped to $1 (Dino Crisis 1/2 and a few others).

Blog says $5.99 in two places for me, web store says $9.99, and I can't confirm my purchase purchase on the mobile site because it won't recognize my card security code. Confusion abounds.

It's 9.99 and any place saying 5.99 is wrong.

I probably finish 1 out of every 10 jrpgs I purchase. I wonder if this would be any different...

I hope so. If story and characters is what is most important for you on RPGs, there's a high chance of that.

If you look under the new releases it's listed there for sale. Searching won't bring results as of now.

It's there for me, it just isn't at the top of the new releases.

Go specifically to the new releases section and scroll down. Voila!

Thanks for the help but it's definitely not there.
Maybe I have some kind of weird bug. When I open "Your Instant Game Collection" there's only PS+ and not the PS+ games of December.
Anybody from outside the US have been able to download the game with an US account?
I'm getting paranoid. :O

Slight Hiccup there this morning but should be all fixed now.

Go buy this game
Suikoden 2 for $9.99 is a no-brainer!
GO GO GO!

Don't forget to rate the game too.. we want those who have never played to get it as well.

Also.. Suikoden 1 is $5.99 and well worth it.

Currently re-downloading 1 to my ps3 so I can attempt to copy it over. Might as well move Metal Gear and Castlevania while I'm at it....

So Suikoden 1 ISN'T going up on Vita.....?

It's a wonderful game (my favorite ever actually) that every rpg fan should experience.. but I don't wanna see people get too hyped in their expectations and let down. Just try to keep in mind that it's an old game with a kinda shoddy translation. lol. Also play the first one before 2 if you can!

Indeed, thought it was weird, eyes must be playing tricks I guess. Will buy when I get home, playing through the ElF Village in the first one now.
Just got past that level. Things are flying by fast and I have the rest of the week off. Hopefully I can be ready for II by tomorrow or Thursday morning.

I had it in my cart, at work for $5.99. Very disappointed I decided to let work distract me and I didn't get it.

For some reason I'm not able to transfer Suikoden 1 from PS3 to Vita. In fact it doesn't find any of the PS1 games I have installed on the PS3 (Legend of Mana, FF6). Has something changed?

-edit-

Oh wait you have to NOT install the game and leave it as the little capsule in order to transfer.

Sigh... Sony...

I'm thinking about getting this, but I'm not sure since I haven't played 1. How good is it and is it necessary to understand the story in 2?
