Suikoden II |OT| The Affordable 108

Can we take a moment to appreciate the completely underrated villain duo of Culgan and Seed? (Forgive the oddly non-transparent images):

I love the dynamic these two have. They're a bit like the opposing side's versions of Flik and Viktor.

Well, Suikoden II has several duos of characters like that, such as the obvious Flik and Viktor, but also Hix and Tengaar, or Camus and Miklotov, with one being rather cool while the other has kind of a temper (blue and red oni). Ironically, Camus is the blue oni to Miklotov's red, despite their color schemes.

There is also Alan and Grenseal in Suikoden 1 as well. The fact they came with overpowered Elemental Runes was a bonus too.

Wow now that you mention it, their concept art looks so much alike to the Flik S2 art and the Viktor S1 art....

I had to go back and double check just to see if they weren't remakes of the same art lol very similar though, the posture and even the hair.

Started playing Suikoden 1 on my Vita and ran into a weird bug very early on. The X button completely stopped working when after I reported for my first assignment. Couldn't interact with anyone, couldn't even select menu options. I quit the game and restarted, and the X button still didn't even work to select Continue Game at the main menu. Checked Suikoden 2 and the X button worked, checked other games and apps, X button worked. So I restarted the Vita completely, loaded up Suikoden 1, loaded up my save, and the X button stopped working immediately. So I restarted the Vita and started a New Game on Suikoden 1, and this time the X button stopped working as soon as Teo and my character got back to their house and talked to Gremio.

I'm not running into this on my PS3, so it seems to be Vita specific. It's a shame, because I was hoping to play this on the Vita more than the PS3. I don't suppose it's a known problem or there's a workaround? Google came up with nothing that I could find related to the issue.

About the Matilda glitch, is there any chance to defeat enemies at level ~10? Like when you have to get the present for Pilika.

Is this the same problem that the poster on the previous page had? :o

X doesn't work when you're simulatenously holding the rear pad aka the L2 R2 buttons.

You will need to either wait until you get the
shield and sword
rune or pray you get to the next town so you can recruit
Futch and Humphrey
and let them do the heavy lifting. If you have the runes you have a chance at survivng a battle that one member will get the xp boost.

Just a dumb question, do you know what these glitches are?

There is a Glitch that allows you literally push through a door your not supposed to and get to an area with level 30 to 40 enemies very, very early in the game and recruit two characters you would normally get much later in the game and basically have your characters raise levels to the mid-30's and more or less steamroll through the game until the enemy strength finally catches up so you get decent enough exp to level up normally again. (The Muse / Matilda border glitch)

The other glitch has to do with Armor Shops. Say you have just over 3000 potch and you buy piece of equipment that is 3000 potch. Instead of buying you use the "Try it on" on two characters that has no armor equipped and then cancel back one screen before the purchase confirmation and then finalize the purchase on the second character, the game will think you spent over 6000 Potch but because you don't have enough money to cover the purchase. It goes into a rollover value and your money maxes out at 999,999. (The Armor Shop Potch glitch)

These two glitches are what allows completing the Clive quest in SII without any effort and rushing more then usual as you basically will have enough money to sharpen your weapons at your convenience to the highest possible level and be strong enough to take out anything until just after going to Matilda for story purposes.

You are pressing the rear touch on accident which is preventing you from being able to press X. Since L2 on the rear touch shares the same function as X you can't use both at the same time. Your pinky or whatever is resting on the rear touch and causing this. There is no glitch involved. Disable the rear touch L2 from the Vita's settings.

Well that is interesting I also read about the war music glitch, and some other glitches, also a game braking one, thanks for clearing that up for me, say these 2 glitches were these 2 in the Japanese version as well or did they occur in the US or PAL version the 1st time?

I never went exploring as much as I would have liked in this game, so with the benefit of sleep mode I am checking everything. Never came across this before today.

If there's an OT2, I really hope this is the title.

Check this out, this should answer most of your questions. - http://tcrf.net/Suikoden_II Most of this stuff is mainly effects the NTSC-U release of the game. When it was later released in PAL regions most of the issues were resolved.

Yeesh I had forgotten how hard that Pahn vs
Teo
fight in Suikoden 1 was. Took me like 6 tries before I got it down. Made me happy to have my phone handy so I could read his MANY moves. And holy shit at the amount of characters they are throwing at me now. I like building my castle, but I know a lot of these people are never going to grace my party group. I can't help but feel that S1 was a bit rushed towards the end.

I do that by accident all the time, so that must be it. Thanks, I never would have figured that out.

You having to bust out a camera for this reminds me, why do so few PSone Classics support native screenshot taking?

I'd guess that -- because PSX games run in PSP mode -- there are a handful of extra vita functions that are disabled. Similar to GBA games on the 3DS. Don't have any real evidence for this, though.

So I exploited the Matilda glitch. Got two characters I wasn't supposed to at that point (those who played the game know who I mean) but didn't finish their quest, just used them to level up. I hope the game won't crash at some point... I just couldn't withstand the temptation.

It is the exact same ISO as the original game, I heard? Because that would mean no music during two battles and Annallee not singing IIRC (the european version of the game corrected those problems, thanksfully). That's kinda sad if it is the case, they could have fixed those minor problems.

So, in the first big battle (war), the one that is a tutorial and you are supposed to lose, the game said that Hanna was forced to retreat or something like that when the unit she was in (that was controlled by the AI) was beat by the enemy forces. Does that mean she is dead for good? I can't remember.

If I remember correctly, retreating is ok. The game will say if the person dies.

No I think if they retreat they are fine. It's when they give you some kind of death gurgle or say something like "I'm sorry I failed you" or whatever.

This is just from memory though so you should probably double check in your game.

They will always give a quote when they lose in battle. It's when the medical report says they are killed that you should worry and restart. If they say the person is wounded then it's fine, play on.

If memory serves me correct, they don't officially join your party until you complete the quest. It won't glitch out but the next time your party is disbanded you won't be able to put them in your party.

Just finished Suikoden I and booted up the sequel. Would've been amazing if I'd played it back in the day, still pretty good today I must say. That said, ten minutes into the sequel and...

Flik! Viktor! Buddies! I knew you guys were still alive.

I'm curious why they joined their own mercenary company though, instead of staying in the Republic to help.

Whew, good to know. Thanks.

Man, fuck Neclord. And his zombies, too.

Don't worry too much about people dying in the battles. I've played the game probably a dozen times and it's only happened once or twice in those playthroughs. But yeah, it'll say that they died.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK my nightmare has become reality.

I used the Matilda glitch.
And while saving Kent I swapped Nanami and Jowy because I wanted to level up other characters.

Now whenever I want to enter Muse the game crashes. I guess there's no way to change characters at that point?

This is why I recommend first-time players to play Suikoden II after finishing I. It feels good to see returning characters in the sequel.
