I can't believe how quickly the last thread turned into 4chan when you guys had the finish line in sight.
As if 4chan would have such good taste in magical girls!

I have never been so ashamed to be here and I've only been here for a month.

Also Persona 4 anime will be amazing. I believe. :(

I haven't seen Angel Beats, but I honestly do have doubts about Seiji Kishi based on the two series of his I have seen - My Bride is a Mermaid is thoroughly enjoyable but is goofy and stupid in a way Persona shouldn't be, and Kamisama Dolls has out-of-place "fanservice" marring an otherwise solid action show. Still, none of the Persona 4 PVs lead me to believe that those sorts of issues will be popping up here, so I'm still hopeful.

And Meguro. Oh yes.

Pretty sure the fanservice was in the manga too. Can't fault the director for that.

This super serious review needs to not be lost in the nonsense of that thread's demise:

Gotta love all the nonsensical unexplained terms applied to sci-fi objects and whatnot. Clearly this show has taken all the right lessons from Evangelion. This show is big on In Media Res I guess. Usually though, if you're going to take that tack, it's a good idea to put at least one character in the show who is just as unlearned about the world as the viewer, so that you can use exposition in a reasonable way, and it doesn't seem like everything is just happening for utterly random and inscrutable reasons.

Uh... yeah. But I guess this show would rather have a girl we were just introduced to see a mecha materialize from an evil giant plate, and she decides the best course of action is to climb into his crotch sphincter.

That eye catch was excessively long.

Wait she thought it was a good idea to put her siblings on the evil plate and fly away with it, why? I don't understand... there's no proper context for anything in this show. Wait... wait one gun-dam minute here... I'm just going to check something on wikipedia.

Well maybe this will be easier to watch now that I know it will make no sense. Trusting the weird lady with tomatoes right after meeting her? Sure why not? One year time skip with 4 minutes left in the first episode? Might as well.

Dude I don't even know what planet this show it taking place on.

That sounds pretty sweet.

Was his research testing the effects of horribly-paced anime on young men? This show sure knows how to do backstory and exposition right.

On the plus side, the soundtrack is absolutely incredible. And it's funny to see a show from 1998 that uses CGI better than anime today do. The animation for both the mechas and hair is quite nice. But yeah, that direction...

Yuru Yuri 9 - This episode is kind of disappointing, really. I mean, sure, it's moderately funny enough. The jokes are all at least amusing. But... where's the yuri? There's almost none of it in this episode! This episode is just light on content in general. There's not much yuri, but nor are the wacky hyjinx or humor up to the level the show often hits either.

So what is there? Well, the main four girls complain about how hot it is while telling some bits of ghost stories. Then, we learn that the school president (who has not previously been seen) actually does exist. She's (yuri-hinting) friends with the science teacher, who is essentially a mad scientist. She blows things up for science!
The president regularly drinks drugs (potions) that the scientist concocts, one of which has left her with no voice. The teacher can understand her anyway, though, somehow.
This part of the episode is somewhat entertaining, but all in all this episode's a bit lacking.

The joke at the end of the episode, though... that was unexpected, odd, and yes, kind of funny.
Um, I don't get how it works though, how can Akari both be alive and a ghost at the same time...

I'll agree she's more interesting than pink-hair, but getting drunk off of cola is the exclusive privilege of our goddess and savior Belldandy. So I guess I felt like she was stealing. :-P
Getting drunk on cola was stupid, yeah. Didn't want actual drunk schoolchildren in their anime I guess, so they had her "get drunk on cola"... that is lame. The scene overall was amusing enough that I can overlook that part, though.

As for Belldandy, though... no. I do not like her that much. She's far, far too passive...

I was watching some vapid harem anime the other day and it got me thinking. There was this tsundere and I thought, man I don't like this character I wish there was a better tsundere. Then I realized that there actually was a show with all tsundere all the time.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why Infinite Stratos sells so much.
This is indeed true! :)

Revolutionary Girl Utena bored the SHIT out of me, which is why I quit shortly after the Black Rose arc began. Maybe if 40% of every episode wasn't reused animation, it wouldn't have felt like watching the same episode over and over again for 14 episodes! It I wanted this level of repetition, I would watch a shounen anime!
Shonen and shojo anime sometimes share the same flaws, yeah... and the repeat animation/plotlines in shows like Sailor Moon and Utena are definitely among them. I think they got the idea from shonen anime, though I could be wrong...

He could have handled it better I think. Or not at all.

I can't have any faith in this after the the hideously boring Persona Trinity Soul.

That's understandable, but given that Persona 4's being faithful to the game and I don't think they share any staff (except Meguro, who's not a problem), at the very least it can't be as bad.

Seeing has how Trinity Soul has literally nothing to do with this upcoming P4 The Animation, I don't see how you can associate the one with the other.

To get ready for the Persona 4 anime, you guys should watch the previous works by the staff, like Angel Beats, Ragnarok The Animation and Baby Princess.

Oh hey, now we not only have staff hype, we also have reverse-staff damning by association!

Guess I'll list things for the new thread.

Shows I like: Mayo Chiki, Yuru Yuri
Shows that are okay: The Idolm@ster, Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, Ro-Kyu-Bu
Shows that aren't really good but might get good later so I'll keep watching for now: Kamisama Dolls
Shows I'm probably dropping: Kamisama no Memochou, Usagi Drop

Well, here's the thing. Good staff can very easily make bad shows, especially if the show has bad writing. But it takes a miracle for bad staff to make a good show.

No, seriously. Why would anyone actually expect the Persona 4 anime to be good? The staff listing that screams "we're totally halfassing this shit, dawg!"? The crass art direction seen in the PVs? The fact that the director is overworked and will put as much care in the production as if he was Shinbo?

They bother carry the name "Persona".
