Finally away from the mediocrity of the spring season and onwards to summer, in this thread I'll outline the two shows you should genuinely be excited for, as well as other stuff that might be worth checking out, I'll also inform you of all the shit you should avoid.

The IDOLM@STER - Air date 07/07, Studio - A-1 Pictures, Director - Atsushi NISHIGORI, Streaming ???

IM%40S.jpg

Why you should be excited - Because it's being directed by Atsushi Nishigori - the same nishigori that was the character designer for both panty & stocking and gurren lagann, did key animation for gurren lagann, diebuster etc and was the episode director of episode 5 of diebuster, the rest of the staff is fairly solid to compromising of other talented folk such as touko taka and akira takata, and also star "gainax" director Kazuya TSURUMAKI will be doing the storyboard for episode 4. PV

Mawaru-Penguindrum - Air Date 07/07, Studio - Brain base, Director - Kunihiko IKUHARA, Streaming ???

penguindrum2.jpg

Why you should be excited - It's the first new anime television series from Kunihiko IKUHARA in 14 years the director of the classic Revolutionary girl utena, how can you not get hyped for it? expect a strong contender for show of the year with adorable penguins!

Blood-C - Air Date 07/07, Studio - Production I.G, Director - Tsutomu MIZUSHIMA, Streaming - NicoNico

blood-c.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - The CLAMP factor... which is also the reason that you might not want to watch it.. still it should hopefully be somewhat entertaining at least with plenty of angst to boot! (and hopefully some well-animated fight sequences) PV

Usagi drop - Air Date 07/07, Studio - Production I.G, Director - Kanta KAMEI, Streaming - Crunchyroll

usagidrop2.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - The manga or at least the portion of the manga that this anime adapts is apparently suppose to be excellent, if nothing else, it should be the solid "noitamina" slice-of-life show of the season. PV

Natsume Yuujin-Chou San - Air date 7/4, Studio - Brain base, Director - Takahiro OMORI, Streaming - Crunchyroll

natsume-yuujinchou-san.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - Sequel season to a apparently excellent anime series with the same staff + director, people who have already seen the first two seasons probably don't need any convincing here, but newcomers should probably check out the first two seasons - Natsume Yujin-Cho and Zoku Natsume Yujin-Cho as they seem to be highly praised around these parts.

Sacred Seven - Air Date 07/02, Studio - Sunrise, Director - Yoshimitsu OHASHI, Streaming - Hulu

sacred-seven.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - Sunrise latest "trainwreck" school battle series that might be genuinely fun to watch or be a bore, let's hope for the former! at least it's only going be 12-episodes instead of the usual 25-26. PV

No.6 Air Date 07/07, Studio - BONES, Director - Kenji NAGASAKI, Streaming - ???

no6--.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - While bones track record hasn't exactly been great lately, this has slight potential based on it being the type of show that BONES used to do well, then again it could be dreadfully boring instead, or end up to be total yaoi panderbait, as it apparently has yaoi overtones! PV

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - Air Date 07/03, Studio - Satelight, Director - Kenji NAGASAKI, Streaming - ???

ikokumeiro.jpg

Why you might want to check it out - While probably not for everyone, junichi sato is handling the series composition for this series, director of laid-back slice-of-life hits such as aria the animation and tamayura, and I'm expecting something similarly laid-back and atmospheric in that sense, on the other hand it's satelight, and their track record hasn't exactly been good for the whole last decade, so only cautious optimism for this one. PV

Kami-sama no Memo-chou - Air Date - 07/02, Studio - J.C Staff Director - Katsushi SAKURABI

kamisama.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Probably going be just a another "boring" J.C staff anime, however it could be watchable depending on whether the source material is good or not, but I'm not holding my breath. PV

Dantalian no Shoka - Air Date 07/15, Studio - Gainax, Director - Yutaka UEMURA, Streaming = ???

danoshoka.jpg

Why you should avoid it - New gainax series that is based on what is most likely a terribly written LN series, with the series director having no prior credits apart from being a assistant unit director for the second gurren lagann movie and directing two episodes of a mahoromatic special, i really don't have any hope for this being any good or even decent. PV

Kamisama Dolls - Air Date 07/05, Studio - Brain base, Director - Seiji KISHI, Streaming - Crunchyroll

kamisama-dolls-.jpg

Why you should avoid it - While the manga is suppose to be decent, this anime adaptation is being handled by the director of ANGEL BEATS of all people, the PVs also look pretty terrible to boot, and for the most part feels like a quick cash-in job on part of brain base, not much hope in this being good. PV

Blade - Air Date 07/01, Studio - Madhouse, Director = Mitsuyuki MASUHARA Streaming - ???

BladeAnime.jpg

Why you should avoid it - While x-men ended up being rather entertaining, i don't think there's much chance of the same thing happening here, with the art looking pretty awful, teasers looking terrible etc. PV

Mayo Chiki - Air Date 07/07, Studio - Feel, Director - Keiichiro KAWAGUCHI, Streaming - ???

mayochiki.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Do you really have to ask? that said I'm sure several poor souls here will watch it from beginning to end! PV

Yuru Yuri - Air Date 07/04, Studio - Dogakobo, Director - Mitsuyuki MASUHARA Streaming - Crunchyroll

yuruyuri3.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Is most likely going be terrible yuri / moe pander-bait material, on the other hand the yuri factor might make it more tolerable and then you have Chiaki NAKAJIMA and Junichiro TANIGUCHI as the chief animation directors for the series, so animation-wise it might be a step-up from most of the other "trashy" shows of the season. PV

R-15 - Air Date 07/09, Studio - AIC, Director - Munenori NAWA

r15.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Terrible-looking harem anime based on a LN with a teenage porn writer gimmick, although i find it funny how most of the screenshots for the series don't even depict the main character! PV

Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 1000% - Air Date - 07/02 Studio - A-1 Pictures Director - Yuu KOU, Streaming - NicoNico

prince-samae-maji-love-1000.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Why watch this crap when you can watch IDOLM@STER instead this season? PV

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro-Usagi - Air Date - 07/08, Studio - ZEXCS Director - Takashi YAMAMOTO, Streaming - ???

itsukotenma.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Vampires + Lolis + Fanservice + Terrible art + Terrible staff certainly never makes up for a quality show, plus the picture alone should have turned you off!

Nekogami Yaoyorozu - Air Date - 07/09, Studio - AIC Plus+, Director - Hiroaki SAKURAI, Streaming - Crunchyroll

Nekogami%20Yaoyorozu.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Well i don't really have a opinion on this, the premise doesn't seem that offensive compared to a lot of the trash that is coming out this season, on the other hand all signs point to this being rather mediocre, and probably not worthy of your own free time!

Continued in the next post.

Nyanpire The Animation Air Date - 07/06, Studio - Gonzo, Director - Takahiro YOSHIMATSU, Streaming - ???

Nyanpire%20%282%29.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Gonzo + Cats = Not a good combination, even if cats are awesome, that said at least it's only 5-minutes long for each episode! but no-one is probably going bother watching this show anyway.

Manyuu Hikenchou - Air Date - 07/10 Studio - Hoods Entertainment, Director - Hiraku KANEKO, Streaming - ???

manyuu-hikenchou.jpg

Why you should avoid it - A show about big-breasted ninjas bought to you by the same director that bought you Seikon no Qwaser I & II, nuff said. PV

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni! Air Date - 07/07, Studio - Silver Link, Director - Shin OONUMA, Streaming - Funanimation

baka-to-test-to-shoukanjuu.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Sequel to a show no-one cares about in the slightest. PV

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou - Air Date - 07/03, Studio - DEEN, Director - Michio FUKUDA, Streaming - Hulu

nurarihyon2.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Sequel to what is probably a terrible studio DEEN show, that should be enough to steer you away. PV

Ro-Kyu-Bu! - Air Date - 07/01, Studio - Project No. 9 / Studio Blanc, Director - Keizou KUSAKAWA, Streaming - ???

ro-kyu-bu.png

Why you should avoid it - More loli panderbait garbage with extra "basketball" setting. PV

Appleseed XII - Air Date - 07/06 Studio - Jinni's Animation Studios / Production I.G, Director - Takayuki HAMANA, Streaming = Nico Nico Douga

appleseedxiii.jpg

Why should you avoid it - More ugly 3D crap, which i think is being released as a series of OVAs, I'm not so sure, not like anyone cares anyway. PV

Morita-san wa Mukuchi TV - Air Date - 07/05, Studio - Seven, Director - Naotaka HAYASHI, Streaming - ???

morita-san.jpg

Why you should avoid it - Generic television adaptation of a 4koma moeblob series.

Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel - Air Date - 07/04 Studio - J.C Staff, Director - Yoshiaki IWASAKI

kaitou-tenshi-twin-angel.jpg

Why should you avoid it - Blah-blah generic J.C staff crap.

I'm definitely going be watching IDOLM@STER & Penguin drum and will also watch Usagi drop, No.6, Blood-C, Sacred seven and maybe check out Ikoku Meiro no Croisée and the third season of natsume (assuming i get caught up on the other two seasons).

Technically Applseed XIII is being released as a disc, an internet download and at the theatre. Or something.

Yeah, I don't know either. Werid.

Nonoriri

If your name is Nonoriri you have to go buy Nanami's tampons.
Ahem like I was saying, I for one welcome our new Penguin Drum/Idolmaster overlords.

Yeah this was discussed, but i didn't feel like putting that information in because no-one gives a shit.

Plus it is airing on television after all.

While season 1 messed with some scenes and all, this season should cover or at least cover half of the best arc in the whole manga.

And you can't get enough of Lelouch's smug voice acting.

Definitely Watching:

Blood C
Dantalian no Shoka
Kamisama Dolls
Manyuu Hikenchou

Might check out:

Shows continuing from last season I'll be watching:

Kaiji S2, Sket Dance, Tiger & Bunny (when I get caught up), Steins:Gate (when I get caught up), Toriko, Blue Exorcist

Shows continuing from forever I'll be watching:

Bleach, One Piece, Gintama (when I get caught up)

So nura: the yokai clan is getting a second season

I enjoyed the first even if it never went anywhere

Did funimation or anyone ever pick up Broken Blade?

Jex

Yeah there is actually a few shows still ticking over into this season, the best of which is Kaiji Season 2, followed by Hanasaku Iroha, Steins;Gate and Tiger & Bunny.

So much fail in the Idolmaster "LC" series. The games have quite literally almost no plot at all, that's why Sunrise created the "LMC" and turned Idolmaster awesome!

I'll probably check out the LC Idolmaster just so I can laugh at how lame it is compared to the LMC entry Xenoglossia. Besides that, I'll be watching Blood-C, because even if it isn't good, it's only 12 episodes, so it won't be a prolonged suffering like Blood+ was!

I guess since you guys are all excited about them, I'll look into Penguin Fetish and Bunny Drop.

In BakaTest 2. Silver Link has quite a few regular Shaft staffers anyhow.

Watching: Natsume, Bunny Drop, BakaTest 2, Idolmaster, Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, Penguin Drum.

Also totally in there for them generic JC Staff shows.

Continuing from last season:

Hanasaku Iroha - Maybe it will get better?
Steins;Gate - It's an infinite recursion of time.
Tiger and Bunny - Hell yeah, motherfucker.

Will check out:

The IDOLM@STER - Given.
Mawaru-Penguindrum - Given.
Blood-C - Fucking awful character design, will watch anyway because of Production I.G. but you can be sure I'll bitch about it anyway.
Usagi drop - Only the good part is getting adapted, so fuck yeah.
Natsume Yuujin-Chou San - In the process of watching the previous two seasons right now, seems pretty good.
Sacred Seven - Lol Sunrise.
No.6 - No hope, but maybe BONES will pull off a miracle.
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - Junichi has my wallet in the palm of his hand, so this is a definite watch. Sucks about the whole Statelight thing but you never know.
Dantalian no Shoka - Well, it's Gainax, so...
Yuru Yuri - In it for the inevitable yuri overtones.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni! - Watched the first season, might as well watch the second too.
Kamisama Dolls - On the off chance that it's actually good. Maybe there will be another Issac and Miria cameo.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably end up checking out everything. ;_;

Nonoriri

If your name is Nonoriri you have to go buy Nanami's tampons.
Most anticipation: Penguin Drum, Idolmaster
Will check out first episode: Blood-C, Bunny Drop, Sacred Seven, No.6

So was I like the only one who watched all 13 episodes of Battle Girls?

I kinda liked it.
I haven't finished it yet, but I just have a few more episodes... I think I've watched through 10 or 11. It's a decent series, I'm definitely going to finish.

BLOOD, DARKNESS, COME TO ME!!
Yeah, if you stick with it, you'll get to that part eventually.

Idolmaster: Xenoglossia 3 -

Yeah, to hell with the LC. The LMC is roughly 14 billion times better! This shit is so hilariously real, it's really like they remade Evangelion and Gundam 00 with moe moe girls. Sunrise isn't even taking it remotely seriously; the "Drops" are named by the type of candy they are. If the "Drop" is only a "Mint Drop", it will burn up in the atmosphere and is therefore harmless. If the "Drop" is "Lemon" or above, then it will impact the Earth and it's up to the Idolmasters, piloting their sentient robots the iDOLs, to fly up and punch the shit out of the meteors before they smash a human city! The asteroid belts themselves, which incidentally were created when a catastrophe caused the Moon to break apart, are named Cream, Sugar, and Maple. I don't even know how the Sunrise staff were able to stop laughing long enough to script and animate this, but I do know that this series is already vastly better than any Idolmaster series which tries to play it straight and follow the game's "story" could ever be.
They definitely aren't taking it very seriously yet, which is why when it suddenly does get serious it's such a weird change (there's a substantial tonal shift)... I wonder if you'll like it or not. It changes from not being serious at all to being quite serious indeed.

If it didn't eventually get "serious", I would get bored. But if this show somehow manages to get more "serious" than Code Geass got, it will be a miracle. Unless turning serious is supposed to be part of the "long troll", in which case, I'm looking forward to it. :3
Like many Sunrise shows, I'm going to bet that which one of those I:X is depends on the opinion of the viewer...

Idolmaster: Xenoglossia 2 -

Imagine the most moe series ever, and turn it into a mecha anime mashup, and the result is indeed I.X. If KyoAni thinks they can make K-ON into a mecha anime and surpass I.X., they have their work cut out for them. This assumes they are thinking anything of the sort. I would support them if they did, but still. It doesn't hurt that the general setting and concept of I.X. is almost a blatant carbon-copy of Evangelion. Sunrise doesn't fuck around, they knew that if they were going to use this thing as some kind of vehicle for mashing up The Idolmaster and their trademark mecha series, they would need to draw from more sources than just Gundam. Not that Gundam doesn't get more than a few references in this show; when a meteor falls towards the Earth and needs to be destroyed, it's called a "Drop" and the primary antagonist of the iDOL Project is the "Enemy Organization" (which hasn't been explicitly named yet). I can't help but think the story used in I.X. was intentionally prototyping the story of Gundam 00, some of the similarities are unmistakable, and 00 aired immediately after I.X. completed it's run.

Oh, right, and PENGUINS. FUCKING PENGUINS EVERYWHERE LIKE M.J., I GOTTA SAY IT WAS A GOOD DAY. :3
I haven't watched Gundam 00, so I can't say.

Also, yes, it does have penguins. Good point. :)

Idolmaster: Xenoglossia 4 -

Current character classifications:

Haruka: genki-lead
Yukiho: narcoleptic comic-relief sidekick (which means if someone dies in this show, it will be HER)
Iori: tsundere
Makoto: kuudere

The moment I got trolled this episode: Sunrise built up to a big mecha fight sequence between Haruka and Makoto, and then cut directly to the Director and Azusa talking about it immediately.

The OP of this show: moderately catchy yet still annoying, S.O.S.!
The ED of this show: enjoyable.
Those are mostly right for now, but some will change...

I'll check out pretty much everything. Looking forward to penguins and bunnies the most. Cautiously excited about idoru because hype is infectious.

Penguin Drum
Blood-C
Bunny Drop
No. 6
Scared Seven
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

Still Watching:

New season, new slate of shows to watch. Here's what I'm putting on my docket:

Continuing from last season:
Kaiji S2
Sket Dance
Nichijou
Hanasaku Iroha

Intend to watch all the way through:
Idolmaster
Penguin Drum
Usagi Drop
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

Might check out:
Natsume Yuujin-Chou San (if I can find time to watch the first two seasons)
Kami-sama no Memo-chou

Not as many shows stand out immediately as last season, though those didn't all pan out sadly. Hopefully the couple shows that do stand out this season will all be successful.

Your stamina is well beyond that of normal humans. Well, that and you're still unemployed, right? :3 -> :| -> :*( -> ;_; -> T_T

When all of you drop the LC Idolmaster series, I expect you to join me in watching Xenoglossia! Including the 3 of you who actually have seen it!

Idolmaster: Xenoglossia 5 -

Imagine everything that made the first 20-something episodes of Eureka Seven shitty, and then imagine the complete exact opposite. That's the first 5 episodes of I.X. in a nutshell. Not all that much actually happens, but the characters are all likable and the pacing of the character development is actually pretty brisk for a Sunrise series which is supposed to be 26 episodes. The good news is that the Xenoglossia versions of the idols do look like the ones from the games and non-canonical new series so it will be easy for me to recognize some of them right away. Haruka is the canonical main character in both the LMC and LC universes, so at that part will be familiar right away.

The moment I was trolled by Sunrise in this episode: Building up to what seemed like a successful
activation of Prometheus-1 "IMBER" by Yuhiko
but instead
she fails
but then afterwards
she gets to stay in Mondenkind anyways!
Well, the second part kind of went without saying, since she is an idol after all and therefore part of the main cast.
