Sacred Seven 03

Hey, they got an actual native speaker for that English-language bit!

The villain finally shows off some personal combat skills. Neat matter-manipulation abilities.

Mawaru Penguindrum 03

Glad to see that the brothers and the writers are willing to mess around in the SEIZON SENRYAKUUUU now. And that hat seems to have a since of humor too.

God damn, this episode made me hungry.

Still fully enjoying this. Unlike some of you I don't try to dissect every frame of animation as I'm watching and that seems to be working for me so far. Perhaps on a rewatch I will but for now I'm just along for the ride.
Well, I don't think anyone is doing that live.

I wonder what the name of that flower is though...

Hating how Angel Beats was handled is not the same as hating Key.

Angel Beats is Key's best anime though.

I don't think those two have that much in common...

KEY is like drama for people who have never watched anything dramatic that was actually good in their whole life. I guess if all your exposure to fiction involves dating games you might think KEY is amazing.
No, that's certainly not true at all. Couldn't be much more wrong. For instance in my case I've never played dating games, but I like Key animes, right from when I first watched Kanon 2002. I liked the story, characters, and plot... they were all pretty good. :)

The opposite, actually. I'm expecting the worst, honestly, since the arc titles don't instill much confidence for a true Higurashi experience, for what little that's worth.

I just know that Batsukoishi-hen is the first arc and the OP is just for it; it's a fanservice comedy arc from the games and the OP reflects it. If you haven't seen the PVs, the "OP is tamer" bit refers to the PVs being blatant fanservice and basically 95% tits (seriously, did everybody get a breast size upgrade?) while the OP is just sickly cute harem-y, not that there's hints of things getting "better" or however we want to word them all dying horribly.

The other three are all new arcs, though ... but the first of them is the mahou shoujo story (parody?). Not sure what to expect though I'm banking on non-Higurashi experiences. Why didn't they just animate Onisarashi-hen or Utsutsukowashi-hen :/ Though I guess those don't really involve the Higurashi cast (sans Shion in one).
So basically, expect harem fanservice from this season, and it mostly only exists because of this 10th anniversary thing and because it's a popular franchise? I wonder if one of the later arcs at least will have more Higurashi-ish stuff in it, if the first one is indeed just comedy... we'll see.

Yeah, didn't really feel that it was "getting over her fears" so much as coming to grips that she's not alone and, to be an idol, she has to eventually get over it enough to perform. Kind of forcing herself to take the first step towards overcoming it, not fully overcoming it ... hence the episode title.
That's true, she doesn't just get over all of her fears all at once at least, that'd be just completely implausible; but still, given the extreme fear we saw from her earlier in the episode, they did seem to be moving a bit fast for her to be that semi-okay with producer-san being around by the end of the episode. But yes, she isn't over her fears, that's true. That'll take longer.

I also did like the part about how the producer was scared of dogs too, nice touch.

faridmon said:
didn't they end the whole mystery in Rei (Minagoroshi-hen)? i mean thas it right? there can't be anything left for the franchise to be continued like that, which makes this a cash grab...

I just wish someone could handle Umineko just like how Higurashi was handled. I really liked the series.
Wasn't most of the mystery explained in Kai, actually?

They are getting their moneys worth out of that transformation sequence/illusion. Was there going to be action in this?

Also I was wondering. When the penguin queen's dress thing flows up why doesn't it cover her whole body if it is, but flows in front of her? Why am I asking this?
Well, she is taking it all off as she goes so...

They've already adapted the last serious arc of Higurashi; all they have left are humorous side-stories and (gulp) original side-stories.

R-15 2 - This was a pretty decent episode. It's much better than the first episode, and I definitely was entertained. The only problem with it, really, is the heavy, heavy censorship; indeed, a big chunk of this episode was fairly pointless given how much it was censored... I'll need to watch this again when they release less censored versions.

The story of the episode, though, was better than the first one. This show is extremely fanservicey and stupid, of course -- this ep's about the school's idol singer, who is hiding a side of herself to her fans, and how our hero helps her (and himself) maybe move forward in opening up about their real feelings...
or in this case, how she has no problem with him being a porno book writer either, unlike most girls who learn about it, and also how she likes to strip down and not wear much (the giant white bas make this episode pretty annoying to look at at times, for sure. Like, in her stripping scene, her torso is seen from the back, and bra strap, but the white bars cover almost everything else pretty much... also I think they were trying to suggest that maybe she doesn't have panties on, but I imagine they'll appear in the uncensored version.)

So yeah, this is very dumb stuff, but at least it was better than ep. 1. Beyond the censored stuff, the plot and story was actually decent for this kind of show, way better than ep. 1's plot. Mayo Chiki's still more fun overall though I think, though we'll see going forward (Mayo Chiki had a better ep. 1, R-15 a better ep. 2).

So yeah, expectations should be low... but still, it's a franchise known for the messed-up stuff more than anything else. It'd be pretty pointless as just another harem show. :(

I actually liked some of the side stories. Yoigoshi-hen wasn't that great but either Onisarashi or Someutsushi-hen (depending on what flavor of BAD END you like) would have worked pretty well for an OVA series I'd think.

And there's still the 3 arcs from the PS2 game (Matsuri, was it?), though I guess it would be kind of weird to go back to question/answer arc formats for an OVA series. Especially after the resolutions in Kai and Rei.

Gotta put some faith in Musubienishi-hen and Yumeutsushi-hen, then, as the first two OVA episodes are the comedy arc and then magical girl time (though, I suppose that could still be dark). I'm just going to be negative on the thing since Musubienishi isn't until like November or something.

Bunny Drop's first episode was way more atmospheric and interestingly directed than episodes 2 and 3. Not saying episodes 2 and 3 were bad, just that I can't call them "as good as episode 1" because, technically and artistically, they are not.
I think the first episode was stand-out, but I don't think the gap between that and the proceeding episodes is as big as one usually finds for an anime series.

NO. 6 3
I don't think I commented on this one yet...
I don't like the homosexual undertones of the series.
World is interesting but I don't think it's interesting enough to actually make me want to watch the show.
I hate the main guy for not fucking that one chick.
I want that chick to come back and keep asking the main guy to fuck her even though it's futile.

Michiko è Hatchin 13: Nice Atsuko episode, even if it feels somewhat filler. I don't really believe the AtsukoXMichiko relationship needed to be looked upon -there's nothing too dramatic that lets us see why they feel so much for each other despite their antagonism in life. They just... stole shit when they were teens? Deep, not.

Voice acting is still horrendous.

Electric Woman and Adolescent Man 05:

This woman is not forty-years-old.

Shaft doesn't know how to draw middle-age women, although this explains why wannabeKyon's dick doesn't work when she's around, but doesn't have any qualms with Erio.

Ouran High School Host Club 3D edition:

ElhrFl.jpg

So, bored and decided to watch it. The first episode, for the most part, follows the pilot with some minor edits here and there. Perhaps one-upping Taiwanese Hayate, the real life anime effects are amped up to the point where many of the anime gags are reproduced:
BSIrSl.jpg

Other than that, I have no idea if it's terrible or not because I've become acclimatized to Asian drama acting. It doesn't help that the guy playing Tamaki hams it up in order to try to match the anime counterpart.

Anyway, some other random screens.

Four more days to the Arakawa live action adaptation. That will be glorious, I'm sure!

Am I the only one that hated Michiko to Hatchin? Only good thing I got out of it was Soil&PIMP Sessions who did the OP for the anime.

Dantalian 2

This is the kind of stuff that attracted me to the show in the first place;
insane bitches that somehow got power.
Though I am a bit disappointed that if they show this, they probably won't do the Lentz arc which was damn good.

[Marcorss Plus: Movie Edition]

Man, they butchered the OVA worse than I remembered with this edition. There may be some real pretty animation in a few new scenes (with the addition of some ugly CG city shots and random gore) but what they take away really weakens the work as whole, across the board.

The pacing and characters* suffer the most damage, but there's also a breakdown in the logic of the way scenes are put together and connect to each other. It's very disappointing. Kind of like "Michael Bay presents: Macross Plus" and no, that isn't a dig at anybody.

*Yes, I know the characters aren't particularly well written at any point, but they have basically zero development here. Isamu in particular has no introduction.

Everyone in the main cast speaks in the same monotone voice most of the time. It's boring dawg.
You're factually wrong, and I have never heard that complaint about the show before.

The only other time I have been bored by VA in animu was when watching Shikabane Hime.

Now that was a show whose ending was crap.

Sorry for asking this here, but I didn't want to start a new thread. I am trying to remember an anime ( aired a couple years ago), where "heaven" was collapsing and the king, who is a boy, opens a dimension so that a girl on earth can save it. Apparently she possessed some kind of magic or power ( I can't remember) that would prevent it from collapsing...I can't find it on google for the likes of me. Would really appreciate it if anyone remembers the name.

edit: nvm I found it Munto TV

Dantalian 2

That was a little boring. At least the narrating-from-books power now had some cool poses to go with it and wasn't two minutes of uninterrupted reading this time.
Also I'm glad each episode has been self-contained so far. Show moves at a pretty glacial pace.

Just wondering about why would anyone like or even reccomend Angle Beats? And please don't say opinions...

Okay.

It's a Dedication Through Light's opinion, which is it's own beast compared to a mere mortal's opinion.

Another day, another Saimoe prelim match.

1st - Kirino Kousaka (Ore No Imouto etc.)

"Utena" (16-19)

Episode 16: A satire of sorts on superficiality & laziness, there might’ve been more to get out of it, that’s all I was able to take away from it. Nanami seems to wear her
duelist uniform
everywhere now, which is fine with me cause ms. No ass still happens to look great in it.

Another little thing that I’ve noticed is: during the prince & princess storyboard sequence shown frequently at the beginning of an episode, when it mentions the prince giving Utena the ring, the roses around the frame are white. And as soon as it mentions Utena ‘becoming the prince’ they fade to pink. I wonder if that means anything.

Episode 17: Rather than let a relationship stack on—and fall out due to—secrets, share them, and build from there, if it’s still a relationship that can be built on… That’s so true, it hurts.

Utena’s
naivety/innocence/ purity
was brought to light in this episode, and I’m wondering if it’s those particular traits that make up the
rose poison
that mindfucker and his boytoy speak of.

Anthy’s commentating on how
how nobody has truly changed after each duel
also interests me. I wonder if that’ll play into something more.

Episode 18: The poor kid’s got the wrong idea. Tsawabuki doesn’t need to
revolutionize the world or anything grandiose like that,
the poor kid just needs a little Linkin Park in his life. It’s after suffering that phase that all boys become men. No need for phallic symbols, poonany & aphrodisiacs.

But in all seriousness, ‘there’s no set definition to adulthood’ is the point I feel this episode was trying to make, and… I don’t know if I agree with that. I mean, there are experiences that each and every person should experience to move towards that label, but… I don’t know.

I’m starting to see that the ‘heart capturing’ symbolism is at play here too. The ones who become the duelists during this arc don’t change in any way, as noted by Anthy, but the ones who’s
‘hearts’ the use fight Utena with become enamored with them,
once all is said and done. It’s like a ‘become a G quick’ card.

Episode 19: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? WHAT? Hahahahahaha! The onion prince/creep was right!
Wakaba’s getting strung along like it's nobody’s business!

I guess he needed a place to freeload off of after getting booted from the school. I cannot wait for him to
do Touga in for good.
The guy has already become a sulking mess, this will have to be the nail in the coffin.

Aside from that, I didn’t get much meaning out of this episode, and that’s probably because the shadow theatre segment went right over my head.

One thing that caught my attention, though, was the fact the actual color of the rose on Utena’s ring is black. The band is white, and the background is pink, but the actual rose is black. Interesting. Interesting.
