Croisee 5: There are no villains on the show, of course, so I wasn't too surprised with how it ended... but I get some feeling that there will be an act of contrition at some point down the line, unless this show becomes super dark and changes tone all of a sudden.

There were also some interesting framing shots, using the gallery's architecture to invoke meaning:

But I'm not sure how I feel about seeing all the boarded up stores with Ferme stamped all over them. It's like, they didn't want to hammer home that Walmart is killing the local stores by having the characters complain about it... but this is about as on the head as that. Since the ending is inevitable though, one wonders how they'll handle it. The bit with the oil lamp at the end seems to indicate how it'll all be resolved anyway.

Sorry, but cats are and always were evil. Dogs are superior clearly.

Now if only Japan could perfect the dog girl to a science the same way they have the cat girl. Stuff like Dog Days is not at all encouraging in this direction.

Play Wanko to Kurasou.

I love cats and dogs equally!

The only problem I have with dogs is that, whatever happens, you just end up with dog smell :<

Galaxy Express 999 (1977) is "inspired by" the book Night on the Galactic Railroad (1927), which I understand is a staple of Japanese children's literature. It came out before the anime adaptation of Night on the Galactic Railroad (1985).

Night on the Galactic Railroad is one of the most well loved children's classics in Japan. Much like Hans Christian Anderson's classics, it is more than just a story for kids, but a metaphor of life and death, and has some very strong lessons. Unfortunately the anime movie is boring as fuck, and if I couldn't stay awake watching it as a teenager, I don't see how kids can stand it.

As far as actual anime adaptations go, Galaxy Express 999 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Night on the Galactic Railroad in terms of entertainment value and pacing.

Natsume 4: Menma 2.0 is tsundere!

These episodes are fairly relaxing and breezy. I'm assuming there's some arc or plot thread, but I don't mind it never showing up. It makes you wonder what these ghosts are doing just hanging around all day though.

I hate all animals generally. I can't stand maintaining a pet, and I don't appreciate the company or attention of non-human species.

What about ducks and/or penguins?

I like roasted duck. Does that count? I don't really care about penguins either, unless they're retardedly cute animated bastardizations of penguins which don't really resemble real penguins in any way.

I think it was the right time to make an episode like this, and the last phrase of Mr. Producer when he acknowledges that he "doesn't knows the idols well enough yet" practically gives away the episode's objective. As I see it, after the easygoing sentiment realization moments for the idols in this last couple of episodes motivated by the obvious catalyst and bland spectator's vessel that is Mr. Producer, this episode gives a right contrast not only in mood to reflect (slightly) something other than a carefree and influenced life those idols seem to live in, but also to differentiate more clearly this specific character restating her background and motives.
You're right. The timing couldn't have been better. I guess what I should have said instead was how episodes 2 and 3 should have had a similar quality to episode 4. Thinking about it now, that might have been my intentions then, but I didn't think much about how Episode 4 wouldn't accurately portray the current, overall atmosphere the show is aiming for.

Hey, when the rules say "ANY" female character from the last year, they mean it.
Besides, you can vote for up to ten people in each prelim group, so I'll bet most people throw in one or two joke votes.
I wonder how Pika-tan did.

Steroyd said:
Stop asking me such difficult questions. :P

I don't think I have a definitive answer that would be black and white, a majority of the time it's who has the creative control aimed for what audience, but of course as I previously mentioned X-men creatively is American, a good number of japaneese anime have the american audience in mind and so on and so forth.

It's like trying to explain moe, it's not something you can explain in a quantifyable manner, but something you just feel is right.
orly

moe scale (from top to bottom, from most to least)
:
HNNNG
moe moe kyun
uguu
MOERU

I just want to point out to everyone who's never watched BakaTest that this is in fact completely true.
I absolutely would not have ever noticed that. I'm such a gaijin!

Wow... you're actually watching this?
I started again to see if the new addition of another Precure will change the current direction of the show soon or retain what I disliked about the show when I initially started. And considering her role within the show so far, it's kind of a significant development, so I picked it back up.

moe moe kyun!

I think green-lighting a 25 episodes run might not have been such a good idea as originally envisioned. There just isn't THAT MUCH story to tell.

uguu deserves a spot of dishonor at the bottom of the moe scale.

Azunyan
This isn't really on the scale, as no one has ever achieved this level of moe except for Azunyan
HNNNNNNGH

MOERU

That really hasn't been a problem. I'm more curious about how well the cast can interact with one another because the character interactions have been sorely disappointing so far with the exception of Episode 4, which was only decent at best for me.

How is it any different from K-ON!! ? :P actually considering with the current format + large cast of characters, i think 25-episodes is perfect, it just depends on what directions they take the show after all the initial character-centric episodes are done. And if the show was 13-episodes, I'm pretty sure they'd be a lot of people pinging for a 25-26 episode series instead.:P

I dunno dude, moe certainly does not come to mind when watching Usagi drop, and that show nearly HNNNG's me to death every episode so far.

As if this doesn't already tell me everything! A severe case of moe indeed.

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi - 4

Worse than Twin Angels from this season and that's saying something.

I gave up in episode 3, it's terrible all round.

Shockingly a "What is moe?" bingo space isn't there.

You know how this had some potential for some comedic gold? Well, the closing moments of Episode 4 were comical to say the least...

Steroyd laments his lack of will power, proceeds to watch one more episode of shitty show.

Dead Leaves - Yup, this was pure unrestrained imaishi, not so sure what to think of objectively, i mean the direction and sense of style was pretty awesome, but it didn't feel quite as concise as imaishi later works, it felt like random bullshit the whole way through, i definitely had a lot of fun with it at least, there wasn't one second where i was bored watching this, so it definitely succeeded as a piece of entertainment!

Penguin Insanity - 2
Uh... what? I think I'm in. I don't know why, perhaps it's looped around to where I'm interested, but I'm looking forward to watching 3 & 4.

Yeah! I agree with you completely, lets see if they are ambitious for their direction approach in the next episodes.

I also expected that, given the close relationship between the idols that work, train and practically live together, the interactions between all of them would have driven the show's backbone, instead of focusing more on each one, with the rest as background or additional and punctual support.

Most of the list is worth seeing at some point. I'd say start with Cowboy Bebop, Mushi-shi and then work from there.

A little bit of A, a little bit of B; besides, we all know that imagining lesbians is the ONE AND ONLY way to watch anime.

But heck, kids can somehow apparently find My Neighbor Totoro more interesting than watching paint dry in real time, so maybe I am underestimating their attention spans. :p
Kids, adults, the elderly, the Totoro love is all encompassing.

Nice, I was in the process of starting the anime, but if it's doing a reboot I may as well start watching this instead, 1 episode a week is easier to manage than having 86 episodes just laying there.

It's better to want for more than to be saddled with too much that doesn't maintain the quality of the earlier episodes.

This is kind of an enviable backlog in that, for the most work, every work is above average to great. Just in order of quality I'd say for TV:

Cowboy Bebop
Mushi-Shi
Ghost in the Shell
Gurren Lagann
Nadia: Secret of Blue Water
Bereserk
Kino's Journey
Wolf's Rain
Le Chevalier d'Eon
Welcome to the NHK

And for movies:

Millennium Actresses
Metropolis
