Shirley
was a superfluous character in R2, which is saying a lot cause she was pretty damn unnecessary in season 1 from the start. What happened to her was more satisfying than anything else.

[Hellsing Ultimate 8]

The term 'a mixed bag' is considered a writing cliche, something to be avoided when reviewing or discussing a piece, but in this specific case it feels wholly appropriate to pull it out.

The rather poor and sporadic editing helps to exaggerate this fact, randomly cutting or stopping a scene and then starting another. The scenes themselves might be connected, or disjointed or good or bad. It's hard to say really, it does feel a bit like a long series of short scenes pasted together without one overall hand smoothing down anything or making it come together.

Sometimes this works to episodes favour, as when you have a trademark 'character pose' that stands out from all the action and madness, but most of the time it's problematic.

I haven't even gotten to the CG which, if it weren't for the bad editing (and disjointed cinematography) would be the most annoying thing. Not only is it overused but it looks really different to the rest of the animation, making it stand out badly.

There's even a whole five minute scene at the starts that's just a boring, disjointed battle between mooks. Why was is there? Why didn't it have any weight? Why was it so dull?

However, despite all that, I enjoyed it. Why? I am not entirely sure, Hellsing is just a ridiculous series of events and speeches and flowing hair with cool action scenes. Which were all present in this volume? Could it have been done a lot better? Yes.

I was sad when Lulu snapped after seeing her all bloody in R2.

:(

- MEGANE MEGANE
- high jump skit took forever but amusing end
- wonder reverse psychology from Nano
- shrine skit was great
- igo soccer skit was fucking amazing

The show's still really average overall but occasionally shows flashes of brilliance.

Top secret info:

If you sign up at niconico.com, the English website, your account works at every Nico Nico website, including the Japanese one.

There's an English niconico site?

omg I love you unknown

Hah, my Spice and Wolf Season 1 BD actually just showed up in the mail today! And I still don't even have a BD player to watch it! No idea when season 2 will finally get in stock though...

Tiger and Bunny 19

So bromantic.
Finally, I was wondering how long it would be before the obviously evil Maverick revealed himself. Memory manipulation is always such a broken power, though then again so was Jake's barrier/telepathy combination
.

You guys are doing a good job of spoiling Code Geass R2 for the people who are still busy making their way confusedly through the first season.

Shirley sucked, anyways.

Persona 4: The Game

Huh, this game has multiple bad endings. Nice. I got a different bad ending when I
failed to figure out who the real killer was in 3 tries after I decided not to shove Namatame into the gaping HDTV the day before. Then I started picking names at random and...Adachi? The fuck?
Anyways, I can continue now until the Normal and True Ends.

The English site isn't populated with everything from the mothership JP site yet, though. So you still gotta go to the JP site to find the goodies you want a lot of times.

Code Geass: Lelouch the Rebellion - 20

Coming up with words of how retarded these "romantic developments" come about, would mean that I acknowledge this stupidity.

And I was expecting table corner girl to rape Euphy or something, it's the show's fault that I had that track of thought.

Blood-C 5

a.k.a. the "finally, shit starts happening" episode. Why they wasted so much time with the first four is beyond me.
For some reason Saya jabbing the monk monster right in the eye made me laugh really hard. Also, thanks for the convenient partial backstory in the form of a ghost tale, school teacher!

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni 05:

Lol, that was a great episode from start to end. Loved it. A surprising amount of epicness, especially at the end :D You just have to wonder: Why did Aki and Co. run into three male teachers on their way to the girls bathroom :D

Kamisama no Memo-Chou 5

Still the best OP and ED this season, and I'll say it every week if I need to. Nice job sneaking the b-side to the OP's single in there as an insert for the cafe scene.

According to some stuff from /a/, they apparently skipped over a major story arc and about three novels worth of content in the process, which has been attributed to "lol J.C.Staff". Unfortunately, having the disadvantage of never reading the original novels, I can't say what impact this has on the story as a whole, but I'm enjoying it enough so far.

Not a fan of this Renji character though.

Man, it's been a while since I watched Code Geass. I would say that the show does get "better"

I'm guessing that you've heard the full OP track? It sounds as if it's mixed a bit differently than the cut used in the op--pulling her vox out a bit more, which is great. She's a surprisingly talented vocalist. It's kind of dirty, but I don't usually go in expecting to be wowed by the vox on most jpop artists.

That B-side, however, is hot trash. Gliter. Glitter. Sparkle. Vomit. ZZZZ

Hey, what can I say, sometimes the cheesy j-pop sound is just what I need.
Close contenders for both positions are the Kamisama Dolls OP and Penguindrum ED.

I hear you. I can dig me some cheesy jpop, and I love Kamimemo's op. It's that b-side that draws the ire.

The MPD OP/ED are so good. so good.

Also, should help dispel the myth that Ikuhara is only ever unhelpful and obtuse for anyone who still believes in that. I dunno if these "commentaries" are new or old or what, but they're neat.
It's not a binary situation. Ikuhara is generally unhelpful and obtuse because he doesn't want to spoil things for people, but that doesn't mean he is never helpful. Imagine if you had made that connection all on your own and how awesome that would make you feel. Of course, at some point he'd have to relent a little because not much more progress culd be expected with things left alone.

At least, that how I see it as somebody who finds being straightforward kinda boring myself.

Code Geass: Lelouch the Rebellion - 21

Why? Why are we back at the school setting, it makes the absolute least viable place for a certain number of characters to be at nevermind characters who shouldn't be near the vicinity given what's transpired, don't get me started on opening the school up to even the Japaneese Elevens when they're all still iffy about them. There's even more nonsensical romantic plot developments and Lelouch's alter ego is the most worse kept secret next to Superman.

Well, prepare for a slight change in direction for the plot, lol.

I am genuinely surprised that you're still asking questions, or that anything can shock you.

Perhaps that the power of Geass?

Durarara 2

Wow, this show is pretty good. I wonder how many damn characters there are. I still cant tell who the main character is, my guess is the dark-haired kid they introduced in the 1st ep with his blonde friend, but they hardly showed them this episode. I'm really loving the setting/atmosphere though, and the ending song.

Nichijou 19

I laughed pretty hard at this episode. The Mio Fosbury Flop scene was particularly funny all the way through. I even laughed at the scene with the professor a little bit, but I really wish they'd use Nano more at school. And of course, the igo soccer overreactions were great.

Damnit ABF, every time I listen to you it ends in failure. Nothing good came from BakaTest episode 4.

The second part finally is the first real summon-beasts segment, where the chibi little summons come out and get to do stuff.
Also, um, Himeji is in class A now or something? Huh? I don't remember that happening. Or did I misunderstand what they said?
You misunderstood, I'm not spoilering it because it's not a spoiler, Himeji was to be excluded from the event because her Avatar is too powerful on account of her "new"(when she retook the tests in season one to fight Class A and there's probably been more since then as well) test scores, she's not in Class A but is of course Class A level, or the top really.
A Black Falcon said:
Anyway, they have to test a new summon-beasts test.
The summons can talk now! They have high-pitched, chipmunks-esque voices. Appropriate for their size I guess.
The summons say the things the people don't want to admit, which causes some hilarity.
Tsundere girl's admits to Akihisa that she actually likes him (or tries to, that is), Pervert's says clearly that yes he wants to see up green haired girl's skirt and starts praising womens' clothing (she doesn't mind), Akihisa and Yuuji's interest in girls other than the ones who like them is once again revealed, that Yuuji actually likes Shouko inside comes out, and more. Himeji and tsundere girl's main goal though is to figure out who Akihisa likes more. Not an easy task, with someone MC dumb... they don't quite succeed.
It's a pretty entertaining scene, one of the better ones this season so far. Good stuff. Oh, and the scene after the credits is pretty funny too. :)
One of the most painful segments I've sat through with the show.

In the IRC chat you made it sound like some substantial shit, instead we got a bunch of crap like one would like to look up the girl's skirt and Yuuji likes breasts, no fucking shit and water's wet. So now the show has established that those two guys have a pulse, that's not revealing in any way, that's not funny or game changing or even something that'll mean shit come the next episode, it was just dull.

Mawaru Penguin-drum Ep. 5 Still not feeling that magical transformation sequence. At least they added that Creepy girl into the equation. Also, wouldn't be easier and more merciful to let the guy just fall of hys cycle than drag him through the mud with a truck speeding through the street. puzzling decision by the penguin there.

I really like how deep Shojuo Anime this is. There are lot of mysteris to be had with this show. Added to teh fact that the animation is really great and the colour palette is pretty... pretty, this is a greats show.

Now, On to what you lot consider the second coming of ... whatever, Idol Master. Have to see what is all the fuss about. Hope I don't hate it like I do with a lot of your hyped up shows.

Nichijou 19
Ahahahaha, holy shit!
I always say this, but it keeps getting better and better.
KyoAni has attained god status.

YuruYuri 5
Poor clueless Akarin...

Kamimemo 5
Cute episode, but not very good overall.

I can't help it, usually I turn my brain off at this point, but it's just not happening, obviously I didn't come into this show cynical enough. :(

Tiger and Bunny - 19

Could tell a mile off who the perpetrator really was, but still, shit getting real and all that.
