I mean, I recognize the existence of "so bad it's good" entertainment, but I see that kind of thing thrown around for all kinds of things I wouldn't consider in that territory. So I dunno.
It's very much possible for something to be bad yet entertaining. It's like enjoying a flawed work or accepting some works don't stand up against scrutiny but remain enjoyable as they are within their genre or something. But then, the question is what's your definition of "good" and "bad." Well, I'm fine making that distinction, so I'm also fine with saying what's bad can also entertaining. It doesn't even have to be "so bad, it's good" entertainment for me.

Now that more ppl have had a chance to see it, is there a verdict on the latest episode of Hellsing Ultimate? Does it look like the series will finish strong, or have all the delays/changes fucked it for good?

I thought it was a solid episode. A bit erratic but fun. They can cover a lot of ground in 2 more episodes, considering what they covered in VIII.

I couldn't even make it to the OVAs due to being bored of the normal anime. Does that say anything?

I guess. I just watch anime for the same reason I consume any other kind of media: to be entertained. So a good anime to me is one that entertains me.

trejo said:
Yes. It says "watch the OVAs".

The only one I watched was the guy that fights with cards. My friend said the fight would be pretty awesome, but lasted a total of 30 seconds. It was incredibly dull.

The original series is terrible(aside from some awesome music), and beyond the first few episodes diverged wildly from the manga. Watch Hellsing Ultimate if you want to see what Hellsing is really like.

A Black Falcon said:
Hellsing Ultimate's not that great really... sure, it's got lots of flashy action, but the story and writing are TERRIBLE!
Let's not be silly here, there's no story in Hellsing. It's all just people and other such related things dying in a spectacular fashion, over and over. Good shit.

Kaiji 4

That was a great plan by Kaiji. I thought it would go against the rules as well, but I didn't pay attention to what they did in episode 3. But man what a backfire this was. I knew something was horribly wrong when the plan seemed to work without any problems.

Loving the anime so far. All these exploitations of the game they are playing are too awesome. I just hope the future games will be just a easy to follow.

Everything's pretty easy to follow; there's nothing as complicated as mahjong in Kaiji.
(Well, I think there is, but in a portion of the manga the anime hasn't reached yet.)

Entertained is pretty wide... I don't know if I'm entertained by depressing stuff that makes me think... maybe I am? I dunno.

Toriko 18

So I guess the Gourmet World is pretty much Toriko's equivalent of the Grand Line, only presumably even more dangerous. This universe could end up being absolutely gigantic just like OP after seeing the hypothetical map of the human world and gourmet world. Awesome.

Also, Toriko's house is nuts. It's places like those that make me question why everyone isn't obese in the Gourmet Age. World hunger HAS to be wiped out in this universe.

Jesus christ this Gundam 00 Trailblazer movie is terrible
Yep.

It's a real shame too, since Gundam 00 actually looked like it held some promise during the first season.

On the positive side of things, I thought the opening scene was hilarious. If the entire movie was like it, it could have been awesome.

I wish I could be more certain of how terrible it is, since I'm unfamiliar with Gundam 00, but I can kind of tell instinctively that there's way too many characters and the pacing is super off, not to mention the dialogue is absolute rubbish.

I mean, there's lots of ways something can be poorly made: production values, plot, dialogue, character work, whatever. That's all clearly distinct from entertainment value though.

Yeah man his house is so awesome. Cholcolate mugs, donuts everywhere, looked tasty.

Gauche the Cellist -

Damn good. So classy. <3 Gotta love the expressive animation, the stately, painterly backgrounds, the wonderful music. Loved the
triumphant performance at the end of Indian Tiger Hunting.
Haven't felt this good after watching anime in a while.

Needed more of the cat though.

Well, I figured you guys have HURRDURR-PINGUINDRUM covered, so I went with something else. There isn't a whole lot this season besides HURRDURR and IM@S to be enthusiastic about really, so there you have it.

Azusa's image song has delicious sax solo. YES, ALL OF MY YES. Best aidoru, best voice actress, and best instrument solo? Clearly she's the favorite of the group.

The part where L dies in the manga/anime ended the movie too but in this case, L figures it out beforehand and wrote his own name into the first Death Note so Rem writing L's name would have no effect.

When Kira/Light gets found out, they did the manga Near ending only with L, Kira dies and the movie ends with L lying down presumably to wait for his death.
I don't think that's a better reason at all, for a fairly important reason:
During the first half of the season, a frequent discussion of conversation is that maybe Light isn't really that bad of a guy because he's really doing something good, taking out the bad guys, even if he has to break a few eggs to do so. This is discussed by character within the show, as well as those watching the series itself.

What the last third of the show helps to show is what would happen if someone like Light as in that kind of position and used that power for his own ideals: surprisingly it turns out very badly because he IS a villain. The show isn't really questioning whether or not his view is correct, it shows that it leads to a very dark place indeed.
Well, that's what I think at least.

More info on Madoka PSP game

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/08/11/madoka_magica_first_look/

Titled Mahou Shojo Madoka Magica Portable, the PSP title is being developed by Namco Bandai and Nitroplus. As detailed earlier in the week based off a Dengeki PlayStation report, the game conversion is a dungeon RPG. The fully voiced story is based off the anime but has a multi scenario and ending system that could result in unseen developments.

Gameplay is split into adventure and dungeon parts. During the adventure part, you select a character with whom you'd like to speak from a map, leading to conversation events and possibly new dungeon stages. In the dungeon stages, you form a party and advance through the depths of a dungeon.

Namco Bandai is including animation scenes from the anime along with new transformation sequences created by animation studio Shaft.

The limited edition includes a figma figure, a Blu-ray with special videos, a pouch, a handkerchief, a special box with an illustration from Shaft, and a special picture label version of the game's UMD. The standard version includes a special box and a DVD version of the limited edition's Blu-ray video disc.

Of course I would assume that if you were going with that ending, you show that Light was unredeemable and doing it like L, the protector of justice yada yada, is the correct way.
