Japan loves genki girls and tomboys confirmed?

No Harurun and Hibiki in top 5 disappoints me. You disappoint me, Japan. Not that there's anything unusual about that.

It looks like Japan has some taste, but we should fix that Yayoi issue and replace her with the much more superior Azusa, then we can work on switching Chihaya and Kotori.

Black Lagoon didn't take an 8 year break, lol. While your attachment to the voice actors is understandable (Dragon Ball will likely keep the same basic voice cast for as long as they stay alive) it has been ages since Hunter x Hunter has aired on TV.
Lupin the third Animes? Maybe 8 years is quite long, but I think they just saw the sales of FMA:B and thought, we can do the same thing. Personally I with for a continuation.

Meh either. Bring it On.

and HxH Manga will never get finished.

Yayoi naysayers will be singing a different tune next week:

Why not just watch the anime first and then play the game?

The game will obviously be better.

I don't know.I played Persona 3 mainly for the story and I feel that if I knew the story, I would have enjoyed it a bit less. I don't know, myabe I should listen to you...

Tiger & Bunny 20:

So, people who've got a better memory than me: Does
Yuri/Lunatic know Kotetsu's true identity? If so, unlikely team-up on the way. If not, guess he's a bit fucked assuming he gets found.

Although having said that, against most of the NEXT, I think Tiger comes out pretty favourably assuming his power doesn't go wonky. Lunatic and Barnaby would probably be the worst matches for him, but if he uses his new abilities cleverly he could get the drop on the latter.

Either way, it's a pretty interesting set-up ep.

I thought the IRC was supposed to reduce the frequency of posts in the thread, not somehow speed it up.
I don't use the IRC rooms. Guess What? I keep increasing the frequency of this thread. I just have too much charm and charisma.

To be honest, I think there have actually been a lot of new faces recently, and that's mostly what's contributing to the higher post counts.

I don't know the time gaps between the various Lupin series, but I do know there's almost always an annual TV special to keep it in the public's eye. Hunter x Hunter kind of dropped off the map, lol. As for what I know, I was under the impression Brotherhood didn't light Japan on fire, is that incorrect? I guess if they want to export Hunter x Hunter, this new production would have a chance at mainstream success, but still.

Fair enough. Then Bring it one. That is the only show that could deliver in the Autumn season.

Kaiji 18

Oh man kaiji is getting read like a book. I wonder how he will outwit his opponent this time.

Oh man, I envy you. Watching Kaiji for the first time is like playing Ocarina of Time for the first time. Sooo good.

They did a sequel to Persona 3 instead. That's more or less what Persona: Trinity Soul was, it occurred 10 years after Persona 3 and was set in the same world. In fact,
Akihiko
makes several appearances in that anime. Too bad Trinity Soul was, how shall I put, not very good.

I hope P4 The Animation works out a lot better than the likes of Disgaea, Trinity Soul, and Valkyria Chronicles did. I don't think anybody expected THE IDORUM@STER to be like the best videogame-based anime ever made.

Persona 4: The Game

Beat the final boss and watched the Normal Ending. However there is also a True Ending.
As with Persona 3 FES, the True Ending requires me to go through a final dungeon and fight a final, final boss. This must be why they didn't need to have a FES version of P4, because that whole bit is integrated into the game already.
This game's "ending" sequence is LONG, and as with P3, very interactive. It also depends on how many S.Links you maxed out, the more you maxed, the longer it gets. Atlus is as usual showing the RPG peasants of the world how endings are done. The endings of P4 are literally taking me the whole day to complete!

Black Lagoon OVA 5
A little late on this one but I finally watched the conclusion to Roberta's Blood Trail.

I know some people were down on Roberta in this arc, but ignoring that for the moment this was easily one of the strongest arcs in the entire show capped off with an excellent ending in this episode. There's just so much going on with all the characters, multiple different plot lines, and backstories being fleshed out
including another peek into Revi's youth, which was quite disturbing and really explains why she is so fucked up.
I really loved the way the battle within Roanapur was executed throughout these episodes. You basically had almost every faction/character in the city involved in the battle in someway, most of whom were operating with different goals in mind, combined with overarching subplots
like the Chang vs. Rock and the involvement of the U.S. government.
It was very entertaining to watch it all the play out,
particularly with Rock showing his dark side
.

Eh, personally, I don't necessarily mind the stereotypical here. Not that I don't agree it would have been awesome to have the fangirl squads not be sideline gawkers that hoist Subaru onto a pedestal, but the route they did take is something basically expected since almost everything else is done rather by the books. I don't particularly think it makes the show any weaker (or stronger), really.

Yes, there's the stupid shit of "how exactly does nobody know you're not a dude?" that really gets questioned hard with some of the things Subaru does (seriously, your blackmail is
from Jirou and Konoe's date where she's dressed as a girl ... your revelation from it is Jirou likes making "him" crossdress?
). It's stupid and takes a huge amount of suspension of disbelief but, eh ... I can watch it and not care. It's only when here on GAF discussing it does it really matter how much of a hard sell it is.

Though, now you're making me think of the last time a fanclub in an anime wasn't "MY PRECIOUS" all over their idol. I can't actually think of one.

I will say that I'll find it unbelievably delicious and awesomely meta and other "-ly" things if the whole thing ends up being Kanade paying people off to just think of Konoe as "Subaru" at school. It won't happen but I just like thinking of that outcome.
It's a combination on how everything is treated in Mayo Chiki.

I mean, theoretically Subaru's the second main character and yet she's treated as some kind of small object in the show.

Then there's just the complete idiocy of like the entire cast that really bugs me. For one, like Jiro thinking Subaru just liked wearing female underwear because she's a perv, everyone else assuming she likes crossdressing, nobody puts two and two together. And it's not just over Subaru it includes Subaru who's about as dumb as rocks in this series. I mean look at Kanade, she's a fucking manipulative troll, which is fine, and yet all of her shit is like a giant surprise to her. I don't care if she wants to serve her or not after x amount of years she should be used to her trolling.

I mean, honestly speaking, with someone like Kanade in the show if you were a character in the show how much of what happens would you believe is an accident? Like Jiro gets half the blame for the S4 shit when Kanade's like the main member! Maybe the founder for all we know. So Kanade places some blame at Jiro's feet for making a stupid mess out of the stupid mess Kanade made and fucking Subaru apologizes for Jiro making a mess on her account when everyone should be bitch slapping Kanade. It makes no sense.

So it's just another thing that bugs me about the show. Kanade has the role of like a God in the show, Subaru's fiercly loyal to her, blindly accepts everything she does or is oblivious to everything she does even when it becomes plum in the open. And I don't mind manipulators but it's only fun when someone's partly aware, in this episode you get a video of the water park shit, probably shot by Kanade with multiple angles and shit, and yet no one even bats an eye over the specifics, just what's on the video. Did Kanade set up the little girl drowning as well as the kidnapping?

I dunno, it's like the characters react to what's done in the show but they're not reacting to the actual characters or the actual actions in the show and that tied to the idiotic acceptance of Subaru as a male just adds to my frustration over the show.

This. I am still pissed at this bullshit. I loved Last Exile, now we get a new series which is related to it and with it comes little tinker toy vanships, little girls as the MC, Alex Rowe won't be in it, and to top it off I bet there will be NO IMMELMANN TURNS. What the fuck is that shit man!?
Hey, at least this could mean that Last Exile will finally come out on blu-ray :)

At the end of the day, I just get the feeling that the newest series is going to try its best to cater to the lowest common denominator, and fuck quality.

I'm watching the first season.

Kaiji 19

Holy shit at that revelation.
Tonegawa got that game rigged from the start. I never expected he was able to monitor Kaiji's heart rate from the ear piece. That explains his mind reading ability.

The end of the episode is amazing. Never before have I gotten so pumped from an anime that doesn't feature any fighting.

Dantalian - 5

Man, what the fuck. I guess stuff happened but it all got lost in the haze of hookers and technicolor explosions. The action just felt hilariously random and everything felt tongue-in-cheek, except that it all got bogged down by the show's habit of mounting monotonous explanations. And then there's the slightly troll ending.

Huey reloaded his pistol and picked up a shotgun at one point, though, so it was cool. Really, the ideal Dantalian episode would involve Huey killing things for eighteen minutes and banging cowgirl for the other two - cut to the ED looped twice.

Idolm@ster popularity poll in Animate store in Tokyo.

5KpcE.jpg

Top 5 in numbers:
1. Yayoi: 113
2. Makoto: 91
3. Miki: 85
4. Chihaya: 68
5. Takane: 58

Best girls at the top, Japanese taste redeemed. :>

Full results:

1. Yayoi
2. Makoto
3. Miki
4. Chihaya
5. Takane
6. Hibiki
7. Haruka
8. Iori
9. Yukiho
10. Kotori
11. Azusa
12. Ritsuko
13. Mami
14. Ami

The Japanese seem torn about Nankuru Naisa, Harunrun, and Goddess Rie. Oh well, I suppose that is as it should be.

Azusa and Ritsuko finished below Kotori, who isn't even an idol. That's pretty sad.

Nobody likes the Futami Twins. :|

Speaking of popularity contests, can you hear that? That's the sound of the first Saimoe match rapidly approaching:

Good luck trying to vote without a Japan-based IP address, though.

It's all relative, mang.

By which I mean I find it superior to other Key crap, but without that perspective I'm not sure I'd actually call it good. Also, you could just watch the movie and get the experience condensed into ninety minutes of Toei goodness (with Dezaki still-pan shots thrown in for good measure)!

Dear god how?

AIR is the bastard child of Key anime. Even Key fans like myself like to pretend that the AIR tv series never actually happened. It's on par with Kanon (02) in terms of awfulness.
