Every anime series ever made is overrated. You couldn't argue that something is your favorite without getting ripped to shreds.

But I'll try anyway:

My favorite anime series of all time is Cross Game. Everything before or after sucks.

But Eva is all about direction. The writing isn't very good. The direction is fucking tops.

Eva's direction is fantastic. The show would be completely unwatchable at certain parts (Or drastically more unwatchable if you hate it) had it not been for the direction. Frankly, the writing is generally good. However, whenever the series decides its going to go up its existential ass and see if it can find itself there, the writing plummets for obvious reasons.

At least there aren't many of those types on GAF.

I agree. I somewhat appreciate PSG for the good episodes, but there is some really bad shit mixed in there. The writing in some episodes surpasses bad and goes into downright irritating territory.

I think I may be the only person in the world who thought Card Captor Sakura: The Sealed Card was a 10 out of 10 movie.

I think I'm going to need more than one screencap of quality to change my mind on this. It's honestly not even that bad in comparison to basically any screencap from most Shaft, Xebec or DEEN series (among others). Maybe I do glasses because I don't think it looks that awful for an intentionally poorly chosen cap.

I don't think that is necessary, since the show often looks just as bad or worse (lol bad cg trains) as that screenshot. HanaIro just looks bad, like every PA Works series. Their over-reliance on CG elements mixed with their really bad composition skills makes for a really visually unappealing work.

Actually I was recommended K-On under the premise that it was a rosey high school comedy like Azumanga Daioh except with music.

I know it's been said, but that was a really bad comparison. K-On is a blob of pointless moe, not a comedy series like Azumanga (much less a great comedy series, like Azumanga).

The point of harem anime is to gather a group of attractive ladies around a single male lead. The point of K-On is to gather a group of moe girls for the viewer to admire. I think the description is fitting.

I agree that the two are pretty similar. The two are not the exact same thing (K-On isn't a harem series), but they are similar in important ways.

Too bad even a genre built around wish fulfillment handles it so poorly.

I have to ascribe this to cultural differences, because how the harem genre is has got to be the way Japanese fans want it, right?

You missed my point. I understand the application of moe as a product. It's no different than the latest Hollywood big-budget action movie or a Bollywood musical or the latest installment of torture porn Saw XXII or whatever.

My point was that you claim to have an intimate understanding of the underlying psychological principles which drive moe fandom. I was calling bullshit on that, because you're implying that everyone who likes moe is a creepy otaku NEET who sits alone in his room filled with body pillows with one hand on the keyboard and the other hand you know where while watching moe in slow motion. That's the part I was disagreeing with.

I don't know if anyone was saying that (and if he was it's obviously not true, certainly that doesn't describe all moe fans), but yes, okatu are the core of the K-On fanbase, and KyoAni clearly knows what to do to attract those fans.

Read my response directly above. The difference between knowing how to make a successful derivative product in a category of successful products, and knowing why a product is successful, are two entirely different things. He claims to understand why. I claim he is full of shit. That's all.

Well, KyoAni certainly are masters of making moe that the moe fans want. There's no question about that. I think they know what they're doing and it's all intentional, yes... they're good at their craft of making moe and K-On is probably their most popular moe series.

The ratings are completely arbitrary. I think Cowboy Bebop is a much better show than all those others.

MAL doesn't let me do decimals so I have to make my point somehow that Samurai Champloo is much better than Bebop and the only way to do that is to hate on Bebop.

Its way too time consuming to properly rank the 400 anime or whatever I'm at now.
