Anything like Tatami, TGWLTT, the flashback parts of Only Yesterday, etc. where characters are basically lit in only one tone instead of two tones with a clear directional light source.

I wouldn't call that "one tone shading", though, since it's more like... there is no shading at all. Regardless, there are a bunch of Gonzo shows like that, actually. Bokurano and Speed Grapher come to mind.

I don't think calling it no shading is exactly accurate. I mean, characters tone will usually still change if it's night or day, or they're in the shadow of a building or something. I guess you could just call it flat shading.

Also, Bokurano had shading, I'm pretty sure. As well as crappy CG mecha.

It had a few episodes with no shading at all; episode 7, with animation direction by Shingo Natsume, had "flat shading".

It's one of the best animated films of all time and it's available on bluray and DVD.

Cool, thanks. Guess I'll move it up on my list of anime to buy.

Penguindrum 06
I don't know what's happening but give me more

YureYuri 08
Oh my god adorbs. Entire show is adorbs. Dying from moe overdose.

You sure you're thinking of the right show/episode? This looks shaded to me.

Is "The girl who leapt through time" really that good? I kept refusing to watch it, because a friend annoyed me buy asking me eeevery day "and, have you watched it?!". :/

It's pretty damn good.

Yes, it is really that good. A beautiful, heart-warming film.

Kaiji S2 15-18

Incredible. This entire plan to take down the Bog was just amazing. Probably the most risky plan Kaiji had ever had to do. There were so many things that could go wrong that it's amazing the plan went as expected.

Very nice to see Endou and Hyodo back in the scene. I didn't think Endou would be the one helping them in this fight, but at least he is not an evil douche like in the first series.

Hades Project Zeorymer 03

Those anonymous, identical assassins seem pretty competent. Why couldn't they pilot the Hakkeshu?

Rose C'est La Vie's weather manipulation/energy charging technology was actually sort of interesting. "Since when were you under the impression that my energy reserves were so limited?"

I love how the name "J-Kaiser" has absolutely nothing to do with the weapon's function or the robot's elemental theme.

Don't be so bitter, Ritsu, men with women's faces are really popular in Japan!

So Masaki deliberately programmed the pilots with all these character flaws? That's mildly clever, although he could have gone further and just given them crippling genetic diseases that would have prevented them from piloting entirely.

Damn, he's kind of a bastard, isn't he.

OTT? On the table? o.O

There was like one crying scene in TGWLTT. It was even completely within context and understandable.

well
there were two
and it was like the voice actress got too close to the mic in the recording studio
its a minor complaint as the movie was mostly great
apart from using walnuts to time travel

Is that the fisherman dude who came THIS close to winning like 20 times but never made it?

Dude's a boss. I always rooted for him.

Yep hahaha. I remember him being but a second away from the top one season. I felt so bad, but seeing him being lowered down with a 'This shit is so fucked' face made me laugh so hard.

Steins;Gate 21

God damn, that was a hard episode to watch.
So it looks like a choice between Tuturu and Kurisu. Tuturu is remembering all her deaths as nightmares, that revelation is what will cement Okabe's resolve. What was with that ending? Is Kurisu trying to remember the beta worldline? Or is she contemplating suicide to force Okabe's hand?

Sacred Seven 08
Hurray romance development. Also glad they're actively trying decrease Squall's angst levels.

Not when you're basically saying anime = manga. You should already know why this isn't a good idea with the recent bans resulting from spoilers. Let's not name names, shall we?
Those bans were about spoilers, not about anime = manga. There isn't much of a connection between the two issues.

If what you're saying is you think that this should all be in spoiler boxes, sure, whatever, I'd do that.

Or you want to validate your opinion and you can't find enough in the anime to outright confirm your suspicions.
No, there's plenty in the show. I think that what I know about the LNs makes it even more clear, but no, as I said before, you don't need to read that stuff to know what the show's about. The anime does that plenty well on its own.

Do we really need to go into distinguishing male gaze shots between the cameraman and the character?
When the character is the only male in the area, I think the camera angles might be a relevant thing to talk about, sure.

He actually did win once. One of the 3 people to do so.

If someone spoiled Penguin Drum (from the guidebook/novel) or Bunny Drop (from the manga), the animegaf rage will blot out the sun.

the crying just seemed a bit OTT, you're welcome to your opinion though

Maybe your heart is just cold.

No need to be so grumpy mister grumpyface.

Redline

Felt like the pod race from Star Wars as an entire movie, except good. Alternatively, F-Zero the movie.

The animation was certainly as good as advertised, though it was so busy at times during the battle sequences it was hard to tell what was going on. The design work, in both characters and machines, was quite special.

It certainly wasn't a great movie, but it was fun.

Idolm@ster 7 - Genuinely cute and heartwarming; with some very solid direction in places, this is the kind of episode Hanasaku iroha wished it had.

Bunny Drop manga has already been spoiled plenty of times throughout the thread. If you want to play a fun game, go back through the thread and try and find them. I think you'll be pleasently surprised.

Are you comparing the entirety of IM@S to the more recent episodes of HanIro?

Honestly if we compare the entirely of im@s to the second cour of haniro; im@s undoubtedly reigns supreme, even when you are including ep2 & 3 of im@s which were no-where near as bad as episode 13 & 14 of haniro lulz.

Im@s does what it is trying to do well. HanIro has been sketchy lately, so your comparison to the second cour I can understand. But I still think HanIro, even just the more recent episodes, are superior.

He's just trying to troll me poorly.

I'd argue he's doing quite an effective job at it since my blood is boiling.

Im@s is awful. It's so bad that it's been the second best show involving the use of idols this season.

Funny thing is, im@s is better at producing manufactured bullshit than HanaIro. Or, at least the writing is more subtle.
I don't really think much about Idolmaster is subtle. Not that I necessarily judge shows by subtlety.

IM@S is the second best show of the season overall. If that makes it awful maybe you should try toning down your standards. :(

I cant believe you of all people would say this with any kind of sincerity. Seriously? You are trolling me right?

For the record my approximate ranking of shows thus far this season:
Natsume S3
Usagi
Penguindrum
<15 other shows that I don't feel like listing>
Idolmaster
Sacred Seven
Blood-C

HanaIro still offends me with how predictably Jdrama-ey it is. Then again, I suppose having no standards for Idolmaster helps as well.

Idolmaster is cute girls doing cute shit, it's pretty fun but at least HanaIro looked like it was going to go somewhere for two, three episodes.
