I just don't see the distinction between say free roam in GTA or Watchdogs. Not that it matters I suppose.

Free roam tends to be unstructured and doesn't force you to be either playing together or against each other.

Cool, but I don't know 7 more people with Xbox One that intends to buy this game.

Play with randoms or simply load Twitch on Xbox One, find a stream of the game, join stream, ask for invite from streamer, join their game. If a random acts up in that game, the host more than likely is going to boot them. The ease of going from Twitch right back to the game on Xbox One is awesome. If GTA Online comes to Xbox One, I'll be making use of this a lot.

Seconding this. Just recently repurchased Ryse and got DR3 on the cheap and they are both really great.

Co-op for an open-world game generally refers to being able to have other players along for all the primary story mode and the full range of events, as opposed to just a slightly stripped down set of features or zones for a dedicated multiplayer mode. Saints Row 2 had brilliant co-op in that full-featured style. Having 8-player support for something like this is pretty nice.
