Sunset Overdrive - E3 Trailer and Gameplay

Hadn't seen much about this until that trailer. Got Tony Hawk vibes (which I had no idea it would be like) and definitely interested to see how it pans out.

This trailer was amazing.

The CG portion was funny after seeing the amount of grounded FPS games at E3. That first half of the video did a great job setting the tone and gave people an idea of what the whole game was all about. They should have mentioned the 8 player co-op somewhere in the trailer though. I loved the seamless transition to gameplay and watching the character flow around the city was exciting. Most of all, the game looked FUN to play.

Other companies should pay close attention to this trailer.

I think all of the music is made for the game; not licensed.

Anyway, I'm so pumped for this game. Can not wait.

Just looked it up:

"The game’s soundtrack will be a combination of licensed songs (the developer isn’t naming any specific names just yet), along with a custom, dynamic soundtrack produced by a Seattle company that brings in various local studio musicians for recording. Expect flavors of punk, modern garage, and proto-punk."

Sounds pretty awesome. Really looking forward to this game.

ONE MORE TIME, cause I wanna know Insomniac's answer:

Bringing my post here since the other thread got locked:

I reeeaaaally liked the gameplay footage they showed, nice level design, the enemies now have colors and parent issues, interesting new weapon, great potential with the amp system (assuming that time when he jumped on something, it exploded and took tons of enemies was only possible because the player knew he had that amp equiped and activated at level 1).

My favorite thing at E3 so far.

My negative feedback would be those two things (at least that I noticed for now):

Rolling with the right timing should probably boost your style meter a little, or at least make it so it won't deplete, it's skill and should be rewarded. (Or not, maybe you already tested this and don't like it).

But this one is kinda important: What's up with losing my style meter because of the boss(mini boss? whatever) intro cutscene? Fix this shit.

This game's soundtrack will be amazing

This is my game of the show unless that thing with the space girl and the jellyfish shows up.

But I don't a wanna to buy new machines yet. :-\

First of all, looks great.
But more than anything I'm glad they used that tone in the trailer.
AAA gaming is getting to a point that we need devs to realize that some of us want games with colors, fun weapons and different scenarios and characters other than the tangodeltarogerpewpewpew kind of game.

I've watched MS, Sony, EA and Ubisoft's conferences so far, and had to roll my eyes at the number of FPSs they showed.

To be completely honest, I wasn't that impressed. The whole "look at us, we're so cool and edgy unlike all those other boring games" vibe of the trailer just struck me as trying too hard and was annoying. Gameplay looked like it had some interesting ideas, but seemed like it could get old rather quickly.

I completely agree. We need more games like this. Even before there was gameplay, I knew I'd love it because the art reminded me of Jet Set Radio. I guess I'm just a sucker for that "punk" aesthetic. Glad this is shaping up to be a great gaming experience.

the amusement park looks like so much fun. the rollercoaster bit especially. this game looks utterly fantastic. i do think they would have been better off showing some of the story and cutscenes, as the game still comes off as just an open world playground, but i'm sure that will be coming. looking forward to seeing multiplayer - thats at e3, right?

Have you tried Insomniac's forums?

They've been pretty great at talking to us here, so I don't think there's any need to, I'm reposting just because the other threads are getting locked, and they're probably too busy to look at all of them and will just go to the newest one.

This game looks so fun that when I saw the gameplay I honestly though: With this, if I never get another Crackdown I think I'm okay with it.

Fortunately, Ms will be giving me this AND Crackdown, so I don't even have to choose :P

love the setting and art design. that's how levels should be, roller coasters, and wacky shit that gives it a cartoony type world that i'd like to play in.

if there was full on destructibility it would be absolutely insane.

This game is a nightmare for someone like me, who tends to play games in the most boring, most methodical way possible. pacing's so crazily fast, i'd constantly hop off the rails to see if i missed something behind "that random tent back there."

This is easily the game of the show so far for me, I can't stop thinking about it.
I already thought it looked so refreshing and fun when it was first announced but was worried that it may get a bit 'samey' in terms of gameplay.

The E3 trailers and gameplay both floored me. It's just looked like chaotic colorful carnage. I love it. Nothing else gave me the same happy, sunny feeling that this game did. It really reminds me of Crazy Taxi in that regard (obviously not gameplay, but just that sunny, colorful, fun and frantic vibe).

I really want this game right now.
Hope they do a good collectors edition for this...

So much this.

As someone who is extremely cynical towards AAA gaming (the most powerful system I own is a Wii), this looks like such a breath of fresh air. The combination of colors, platforming and silliness has me completely sold. This is the kind of game that could convince me to get something next gen.

Hmm, I guess I am the only one who thinks that the presentation was extremely crinche worthy, dumb and un-appealing...and that haircut, ugh. I will definitely not buy it.

p.s. please read my other posts before responding to this one. My position has been slightly altered by the reactions of the community.

cool. btw, not that you really care, but the main character is completely yours to create

The character is customizable, but yeah, I thought the humor was awful. Not awful enough to make me not buy the game though. I can overlook stuff like that if the game is fun.

Sunset Overdrive is potentially a system seller for me, it looks fantastic. Game of the show for me so far, although I'm expecting that to change within the next few hours.

That's perfectly fine, after all, one of the reasons people are so excited about this game is because they feel the exact same way about many of the AAA games out there, so it's only natural a lot of people who feel the opposite would exist.

You're probably the only once being so nice about it, though, there was some hardcore hate in the last thread.

That just looks stupendous. Fast, fun, colorful, zany, gross, freeform. Loving the Jet Set Radio style traversal and R & C style weapons.

I think the presentation and style is a bit of fresh air in an industry filled with dark/serious games. I thought it was refreshing to see a game that looks vibrant and fun, and doesn't take itself seriously.

I'd say this was the highlight of Microsoft's conference, besides the amusing Dead Rising DLC trailer and Ori which has a lovely art style. This was a good get for Microsoft Studios.

The idea itself is fine. I liked, for example, how the character knocked the camera back and the big BOOM! at the end is pretty good. But all this "acting cool" just feels weird, like a kid telling a serious story.

I think Witcher, Halo and Project Spark did the best job, although the Dead Rising DLC trailer is really stellar :D

This game is a shining oasis in the middle of a gaping desert of game by numbers titles from Microsoft's presser.

I'm really pretty tempted to pick up an Xbox One if this winds up as good as it looks.

Not going to lie, when BEN TEN appeared I was hooked.

Yuri Lowenthal rocks.

I just bought a PS4, so I shouldn't buy an Xbone just for one game when nothing else they have for the year or in their library so far remotely interests me.

But if they make a bundle, I don't think I'll be able to resist it.

The game of E3 so far, in my eyes.

I just love everything about it. The trailer and presentation at the conference was brilliant. I'm buying an Xbox One this year mostly just for this fucking video game. I NEED it!

This game makes my eyes bleed and my brain hurt. It's so mindless, it doesn't even pretend to be something more than a hipster take on gaming, challenging every conventional design choice, but at the same time shamelessly borrowing from every game it ridicules.

Sunset Overdrive OT "Your create is safe"
.

I vote for Sunset Overdrive OT: It's a f*cking video game

This was definitely the highlight of yesterday for me across all the shows because it's actually coming out this year. Along with Horizon 2 and the Halo Collection, MS has the rest of this year on lockdown.

When are they showing off 8 player co-op? I thought that was supposed to follow MS's conference yesterday, but I never saw anyone show it.

Sunset Overdrive |OT| Diamond is Unbreakable
Sunset Overdrive |OT| Even Speedwagon is excited
Sunset Overdrive |OT| Watch where you're going
Sunset Overdrive |OT| We are the happy landfill

:CCCC

I believe it's on the showfloor
