Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

Looks absolutely boring so far. Early levels sure, but even the early easy levels of Galaxy inspired joy in me due to them offering some fresh and unique with the setup.

This is just what feels like a paint-by-numbers approach to 3D Mario and the end result on my end is complete apathy.

Because they needed a 3D Mario this holiday season. A Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy type Mario wouldn't have been done in time.

A good example of when panic Nintendo isn't best Nintendo.

I've said it before, but panic mode Nintendo being a good thing is a myth. The one time they went into legit panic mode, they rushed out Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker. Both good games, but clearly unfinished and filled with padding. Leisurely, confident Nintendo is the one that's been behind all their best works.

This.

I'm sad.

I loved 3DLand, and 3DWorld seems like even better.

so few positive comments.

Day1.

This as well. I remember 3D Land getting a similar reception before release, and a lot of people loved it. Hopefully the same is true here.

For me this game is one of the most disappointing things Nintendo has done in recent memory. Three years since SMG2 and this is what they come up with. Yeah, ok.

You certainly had no problem eating the God of War rippoff by Mercury Steam...

I don´t think so.

Games like NSMBU, Mario Kartetc. paint a pretty clear picture of what Nintendo has become these days.

Boring, generic, risk averse, lacking innovation.

Hey look here someone who probably think all Mario Kart since the crap GC game are the same!

I suspecy there will be a lot of people eating crow when Nintendo reveals more of this game.

What's up with the PS4 hat? Are they giving them out for free? Is Nintendo giving out something at the demo stations?

I think it looks awesome. Mario has always been a platformer. Get from point a to point b.

Start here. Obtain a Star or similar object there.

The occasional simple boss.

Not seeing what to hate around here.

This is the second game of its kind.

And excellent game design is excellent no matter how you dress it up.

Which doesn´t really matter since the first one already wasn´t really new or innovative.

People expect more than that from Nintendos flagship title. We want stuff like Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy. This just doesn´t cut it.

Oh yeah, a THIRD Galaxy!!!!!

Not a second Mario 3D Land game.

We wouldn't want rehashes.

We want a 4th Metroid Prime!!!!

Not a second fucking Donkey Kong.

We're tired of the same old same old.

No.

But we should all boycott lazy, cheap, creatively unambitious rehashes and factory-produced mentality games.

Especially if the company behind them wants to sell them at a premium MSRP.
So you're saying you're going indie only from now on?

You just called a game that we have seen less than 5% of by one of the best developers on the planet creatively unambitious.

That about says it all.

Its somewhere in between 'panic Nintendo' and 'complacent Nintendo'. A Hungry Nintendo is the best one, but that means more focus on the new 'out to prove themselves' blood and less on peeps like Miyamoto that really have nothing to prove anymore, hence his comments like "lol new IP who gives a shit".

Seem to remember that Koizumi is apparently working on something new, so hopefully thats the true "Ah, Nintendo!!" game as he seems to be a face of the new generation while all this treading water bullshit launches this year/early next.

Aonuma is tired of Zelda games and Sakurai enslaved back to Smash production is such a shame as well really. I don't think a lot of Nintendo fans understand how much the eternal franchise cycle has hurt their creativity and ability to perform in the industry.

I play the first level of Galaxy again, and it still has awe moments due to its fresh setup. I really don't care if 3D World starts bringing difficult and interesting shit from World 4 onwards. I need to be impressed and interested right away, not 10 hours in.

We get it man, no matter what Nintendo does you're not happy. Move on.

Nintendo (and Mario to an extent) are usually held to a higher standard than most. Whether that's unfair or not is up to you, but with that in mind, I guess I can understand the disappointment for some.

Not to the extent of boycotting or calling it a rehash, but to each their own.

Come on dude.

Think about your post. Now think about the fact that you know next to nothing about this game. If any studio deserves the benefit of the doubt, its EAD tokyo.

I can only talk about the stuff i have seen so far, if the rest is much better fine, but i somehow doubt it because it doesn´t really make sense to publicly show the most unimpressive part of your games.

Wrong.

Doesn´t matter what Nintendo does you guys are happy anyways.

Some of us played it, the scepticism is unwarranted here.

I don't see how that has anything to do with this. Different expectations for different things.

They took one of the rare IP that was something a little bit different and made into one of the most generic trash this side of the industry and you're basically 'YES! MOAR" and we have 1 IP here that retain the little bit of uniqueness while providing the best gameplay around and you're not high enough to shit on it.
Excuse me if I find that funny.

We're tired of the same old same old.

We don't want Galaxy 3. We want a game with new ideas, like Galaxy.

And like Galaxy, we want a game that Nintendo appears to give a shit about. Instead of throwing a generic artstyle with generic music and calling it a day.

None of this is true.

Well, except maybe boring - you may have found MK7 and some of the NSMB games boring, but millions would most likely disagree.

But 300 hours on Mario Kart 7 later, and I've gotta say, it's one of the greatest games of all time, brimming with uniqueness and innovation (some of which due to the hardware, of course, like all Nintendo titles). Likewise for pretty much every game except maybe NSMB2, which was a little on the undercooked side, not benefitting too much from the 3D visuals, etc.
