Haters gonna hate!
It's been proven too many times to count. When Nintendo hits a home run after people doubt, they find something to hate on no matter what.
From the article:
"But while I did enjoy my time in each of the five different stages we were allowed to play, I still can't help but long for the vast, open, and mysterious environments of Mario 64 and Sunshine."
Game looks far better than before, but it doesn't really change this main criticism.
Although it looks great, there's nothing that can't have been done on the 3DS from the graphics to the tiny, isometric levels.
It's set, but you can move it however the hell you want with the right analogue stick or the gyro.

It's fixed in multiplayer, however.
I always blew my mind that people were down on this game when it was originally announced. I expect nothing but an absolutely amazing game. 3D Land was fucking fantastic, especially for a portable game. I can only imagine that a full blown console version will be an absolute classic.

No, people actually doubted EAD. And predicted the game would be awful. "No developer is perfect" I seem to recall being said lol

Weirdly, it's like the 3D Land reaction all over again. "Meh" > "Wow!"
This!
Open World should not be part of Super Mario IMO. Super Mario galaxy and 3d land are much better than s64 and sunshine. Leave open world to zelda.
Welcome to Nintendo. The first reveal for their new games is usually pretty barebones and shows off like 2-3 levels and like 1 new game mechanic. It was the case with 3D Land. It was the case with a lot of games. Their proper blow-out trailers don't come until the months before launch.
Wait, so why can't we get both? I don't understand. Those of us who want an epic ambitious open-level Mario game aren't even saying we should do away with old-school-flavored Mario Bros. 3-style experiences. We're simply saying there's an opportunity to appeal to both. Super Mario 64 is considered the best game ever made by many, including some of the most influential game designers of our day. It matured the Mario series into some new (which ironically the NSMB failed to do). Video games are opportunities to simulate grand worlds to explore. They don't always have to be beholden to the original game's design.
looks way better than 3d land and the first 3d world trailer. mario games really do get better the second time around.
Can't wait for DKC's next trailer.

Yep. This is amazing.

Looks pretty great to me, but it's still not enough to convince me to get a Wii U - that will come when Nintendo get the next Zelda out along with some new IP's.
Would have preferred a 64esque title myself for it to be a genuine system seller.

I'm glad some people are taking the bait though.
Still not sold. I'm glad some people are taking the bait though.
Okay, there's no way these aren't Subcons from SMB2:

They're definitely the Subcon Fairies. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the green one in the trailer.Okay, there's no way these aren't Subcons from SMB2:

Don't take his bait. ;-)Bait?
Looks really great. Only problem is I want levels like Super Mario Sunshine or Mario 64. Some seem to come close but most seem like simple levels.
Right. That's why 3D Mario since Sunshine haven't been beholden to the formula set out by Super Mario 64.
