Super Mario 3D World: New Trailer

Haters gonna hate!

It's been proven too many times to count. When Nintendo hits a home run after people doubt, they find something to hate on no matter what.

From the article:

"But while I did enjoy my time in each of the five different stages we were allowed to play, I still can't help but long for the vast, open, and mysterious environments of Mario 64 and Sunshine."

Game looks far better than before, but it doesn't really change this main criticism.

That isn't a criticism.

Although it looks great, there's nothing that can't have been done on the 3DS from the graphics to the tiny, isometric levels.

Is this a serious post?

It's set, but you can move it however the hell you want with the right analogue stick or the gyro.

It's fixed in multiplayer, however.

Hmm... interesting that there are both types of goombas in this gif: the traditional mushroom type and the "chestnut" goombas from Super Mario World.

I always blew my mind that people were down on this game when it was originally announced. I expect nothing but an absolutely amazing game. 3D Land was fucking fantastic, especially for a portable game. I can only imagine that a full blown console version will be an absolute classic.

Well, fuck people for being skeptical/cynical... specially after watching a super shitty trailer.

No, people actually doubted EAD. And predicted the game would be awful. "No developer is perfect" I seem to recall being said lol

Well, I never doubted that much.
I expected another Super Mario 3D Land.
This looks 100x better than that ever was.

This!

Open World should not be part of Super Mario IMO. Super Mario galaxy and 3d land are much better than s64 and sunshine. Leave open world to zelda.

Wait, so why can't we get both? I don't understand. Those of us who want an epic ambitious open-level Mario game aren't even saying we should do away with old-school-flavored Mario Bros. 3-style experiences. We're simply saying there's an opportunity to appeal to both. Super Mario 64 is considered the best game ever made by many, including some of the most influential game designers of our day. It matured the Mario series into some new (which ironically the NSMB failed to do). Video games are opportunities to simulate grand worlds to explore. They don't always have to be beholden to the original game's design.

what excited me most about the trailer was the gameplay ideas not the graphics. the fun is spilling out of everywhere.

Welcome to Nintendo. The first reveal for their new games is usually pretty barebones and shows off like 2-3 levels and like 1 new game mechanic. It was the case with 3D Land. It was the case with a lot of games. Their proper blow-out trailers don't come until the months before launch.

Can't wait for DKC's next trailer.

:(

I showed the trailer my GF and her reaction.

"I'm buying this game"

The only games she has ever bought are LBP and LBP2. It does look amazing.

Right. That's why 3D Mario since Sunshine haven't been beholden to the formula set out by Super Mario 64.

looks way better than 3d land and the first 3d world trailer. mario games really do get better the second time around.

Nintendo seems to have this thing where they're afraid of overwhelming the average player and kids with the first game. It never quite goes as far as it could and is a bit toned down.

Then if there's a direct sequel it's like they assume mostly the hardcore and experienced will come back for more, and boom. The next game is twice what the first one was.

Yep. This is amazing.

Weirdly, it's like the 3D Land reaction all over again. "Meh" > "Wow!"

The Super Mario 3D Land reaction was more like the opposite for me.
I was so hyped until I played it.

But this looks like it has so much more, don't disappoint me again EAD Tokyo!

Yep, that looks great. E3 reveal still deserves the criticisms it received and I will not take them back, but that trailer was amazing. Beside all the creativity shown in the trailer it's the music that deserves the spotlight. Very refreshing and unlike anything before in the series.

I'm still cautious about some elements, mainly about green stars. But, it depends on their placement in the levels (those seen in the trailer were pretty decent) and it seems that possibly not every level has an obligatory set of green stars (the last encounter shown has only one green star).

wow.. this game looks really fun. It always amazes me how much fun you can have playing Nintendo's in house games! i will be buying this.

Omfg that's so stellar!

It reminds me so much of Super Mario 3D Land which was fucking incredible, this new Mario is clearly a system-seller in my eyes.

Now the downside, it made me even more eager for a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land but for the 3DS u_u

You guys... That kinda looked FUCKING AMAZING. Christ its gonna hurt not being able to play this. Might have to rethink my PS4 preorder with 3DWorld, W101 and Tropical Freeze dropping

Before trailer: "3D World looks OK, I'm sure it will end up being good like every other Mario game but I'm not too excited."

After trailer: "HOLY SHIT DAY 1"

Seriously, I can't imagine anyone being able to say "this game looks so lame! Where's Galaxy 3!" after all the awesome stuff seen in this video. The music was awesome too, I hope it ends up being in the full game.

Looks pretty great to me, but it's still not enough to convince me to get a Wii U - that will come when Nintendo get the next Zelda out along with some new IP's.

Would have preferred a 64esque title myself for it to be a genuine system seller.

Although it looks great, there's nothing that can't have been done on the 3DS from the graphics to the tiny, isometric levels.

lol

Looks really great. Only problem is I want levels like Super Mario Sunshine or Mario 64. Some seem to come close but most seem like simple levels.

The level design and bosses look incredibly inspired. In terms of creativity, it's right up there with Galaxy I think. This is a serious GOTY contender in my eyes.

Right. That's why 3D Mario since Sunshine haven't been beholden to the formula set out by Super Mario 64.

Sure. But how come no 3D Mario has ever outsold 64? SM64 is still the highest selling 3D Mario to date. Funny how the much revered Galaxy games that were on system with a 100 million install base still couldn't outsell it.

Sounds like Nintendo should be doing the open world style 3D Marios to me.
