Super Mario Run Release Dec 15th, Price 9.99

They will make a shit ton of money on this. Parent will buy their kids iTunes cards just for this release.

Definitely this. So many people give gift cards as holiday presents, I bet this is #1 and stays there for some time.

It's kinda like Square games being 1800 yen or whatever and being in the top 10 all the time on the JP store. I think these are both special cases that other app makers couldn't pull off, though.

I don't think we can really say "billion seller" or "dead as shit" yet. Completely unchartrd territory here and I'm curious how it will go.

Personally, I'd bite for $5 but it'd have to be REAL good for me to go for it at $10. But I don't own any Apple products so kind of a moot point for the moment...

Who knew even mobile titles carry the Nintendo tax?

In all seriousness, if the content and replayability is there, 10 bucks is gonna be alright I guess.

No need to act like this is just another mobile release. Game will sell just because of the name and no dont expect Nintendo to ever drop the price.
Game won't sell just because of the name. Game will show how immature the mobile market is. There will be articles about how Nintendo did what noone else could, this will be the Super Mario Bros of mobile games market.

I think most customer will compare this release to console software prices - because this was the only other venue you could play Mario games before. 10 usd is quite cheap compared to buying a console and spending 40 dollar NSMB.

So it works in both directions - i dont think Nintendo gives a damn about the customer group that isnt welling to spend 10 dollar on a game.

Hell, they'll probably do branded iTunes cards a la Minecraft. Stick those things at the register...

Yup - anything else would surprise me.

If you want to see more premium games on the App Store you better hope this will sell. If Mario fails you might as well say goodbye to the mobile platform for anything other than F2P games.

The game is basically DOA with that price tag. The most moneymaking games are F2P on mobile, even angry birds was forced to go F2P when the old monetary model didn't work further.

The game was highlighted at Apple's conference this year. It was announced from the beginning to have this pricing model. Last time we knew that more than 20 millions people registered to be noticed about the release. After Pokemon releases this week most likely Nintendo will focus all the marketing on it. It will sell.

edit: One could say that this is the most notable release on mobile so far.

Wow was expecting $15 or $20.....

People had been saying that...to me that would have been an enormous mistake. I think $9.99 is the absolute max they should charge, but acceptable. I think $4.99 would have been a massive universal-adoption sweetspot personally. Will buy at $9.99...but bear in mind I'm their ideal target.

Even if it's mario, it's still an endless runner....

I hope I'm wrong but I'm sure I'll be bored in 5mins. Also not looking forward to playing in portrait mode.

Technically, $10 is a bit high for the mobile space, but the Mario license justifies that price. I also think it was pretty damn brilliant for Nintendo to partner with Apple on launch exclusivity. I've seen quite a few reports that prove iPhone owners are more willing to pay for games and apps than those on Android.

Here's hoping this ties into My Nintendo somehow.

No nickle and dimeing micro-transactions and a fair price that won't lead to the bottoming out of the industry. What's not to like?

Yup. If the game was out and I had an iphone I would be making that purchase right now. And I'm not even a big spender, less than 100€ so far in 2016 for my gaming needs.

No and that's exactly why I stand by my previous post. Mobile games have become too stale and similar that user know already what to expect. This game will be a very welcome change, it will make mobile gaming great again.

FYI the game will have levels like a classic Mario.

I hope the pricing model works out for them, but if it doesn't we will likely see an adjustment for future releases. This will be a way to test the waters for using a mobile game to drive Switch sales, really, and if it doesn't work well for that purpose, adjustments will probably be made.

I think it'll likely work out. Free download and some free content is probably enough to get people to drop a tenner if it's a good game, which is a safe bet.

Sucks I don't have an iphone :/

Too much for a mobile game. Maybe it's worth it for other people but I've never spent more than 10 minutes enjoying a mobile game. Hearthstone, but that doesn't count.

Yeah. This could either open up the mobile market to more premium games or close it definitely. But my feeling is that it will succeed.

My dudes they're charging 6.99 on the store for stuff like Steamworld Heist (which is admittedly a very good game) there is no way they charge 4.99 for Mario.

9.99 seems right in line with what you'd expect from the brand and the maker tbh, will sell gangbusters.

As someone who has never spent more than $5 for a game on my iPhone and loves Nintendo, no way, not biting at $10. Maybe the free-to-try stages will change my mind, but I guess we'll see. I got Rayman Jungle Run when it was dirt cheap and eventually lost interest in it because of how simplistic it was.

On the bright side, at least they aren't being as delusional as Squenix with their $15+ ports of 10+ year old games.

ha ha lol I'm too lazy to take names and save quotes but let's look at the charts once released and mock the doubters :]

I liked Rayman Jungle Run and Fiesta Run, so if this is as good as those titles I will probably buy it. The price is ok.

First page rule, nobody reads beyond the title.

More like, this is the case with everything related to Nintendo. It's like every thread about anything Nintendo is existing in a vacuum and you have to remind countless of people again and again about otherwise well-known information.

$10 is very risky. It could tank this game.

If the game is of exceptionally high quality (which I'm not banking on that it will, just because it's really not different from any other smartphone runner game), it might shatter the mobile price ceiling, but don't count on it.

WTF the music is the New Super Mario Bros. music but without the BAH BAHs.

THEY FIXED THE MUSIC.

What exactly do you get in the FREE version? Is it only a time limited trial or??

Also did they ever announce what exactly are "3 modes"? Is there a Story mode?
