Super Mario Run Release Dec 15th, Price 9.99

Minecraft is currently #1 on the US paid iPhone store with a price point of $6.99.

And hardly ever budges from #1, and doesn't go on sale.

I don't think Mario will be the new forever #1, but at 9.99 it's going to be in the top 10 for awhile.

Confused on why some were expecting this to be higher than $15. It's not like their bringing a full RPG here.

EDIT: Oh $10 to unlock everything...

It's not an endless runner.

For Nintendo, it's all about the gameplay.

So yeah, it's an endless runner having levels doesn't change the mechanics of how it plays.

Rayman runner doesn't really play any differently than bit trip runner or sonic runner. Mario will be roughly the same with maybe more polish.

I hope it's the best game ever but I don't see that happening yet.

People are nuts complaining about 15 dollars.

People spend insane amounts on iap.

That's what this game is. You play it and than you drop 15 on an iap for the full thing.

It's genius and all of the people who spend money on mobile games will laugh at such a drop in the bucket.

I will.have to play it on my iPad til android version hits.

If there's anybody who can rewrite the mobile gaming price point, it's Nintendo.

There's a lot of people in this thread thinking $10 never happens though, and that's really not true. Lots of mobile games in the $10-20 range.

...because?

Because I play it mainly on PC. But sometimes I wanna play on the go or lectures are boring so I have to play it on my phone but still, it's a PC game. However I have to Mario Run on my phone even when I'm home. I don't like that.

Ok, good for you? This is Super Mario not Hearthstone or some crappy no name IP.

Why the salt? Just because Mario is a popular IP, it doesn't mean I have to enjoy its mobile game more than other games.

Need to know how fun this is for $9.99. I liked Rayman, but that was way cheaper and had amazing production values.

Race mode is cool, aside from that meh. $5 would've been nice, 10 is okay but i have a number of mario games

That miitomo update looks nice though

I hardly play any mobile games but this looks more interesting than anything else in the New Super Mario Bros. series to be honest.

Rayman is free, also veru good. 9.99 on mobile is just too high on that platform.

If this was on Nintendo 3DS for this price, no one would complain. A good game is a good game no matter on what platform it is.

Hitman go, Lara Croft go and Deus EX go are good examples of good games that play to the strengths (and limitations) of mobile.

Just the fact that Super Mario Run doesn't have microtransactions makes me want to buy it. If this game is good I'll gladly pay the price.

It's free to download though. I think they nailed the mode and the pricing. I wouldn't like micro crap. If the game is good 10$ is fine and I know many users will probably pass (still download the free version though) but there are still millions of iphone users that are also gamers that would probably buy.

Thing is, "pay to unlock" is the worst performing monetization mode on mobile. Yes, it actually performs worse than straight up premium games with no free trial whatsoever, because of the way both the App Store and Google Play are setup.

However, as you said, this is Mario, which has the advantage of a large gaming user base built outside the mobile market, unlike a new IP: people who already consume Mario games are far more likely to pay to unlock the game than mobile-only gamers. It will also be disproportionally promoted on the App Store, which will nullify the effects of it's eventual cratering on the free app charts due to the massive churn that comes with the pay-to-unlock monetization model.

Ultimately, Mario selling well is probably not a reliable indicator of "opening up" mobile gamers to premium experiences since the circumstances around it don't apply to other games, just like Minecraft PE didn't help other premium games much.

To me 9.99$ is too much for phones, that audience don't want to pay a cent for the app since there are so many available for free, of course the quality of those won't even be close to Mario but they won't care...though it's still Mario so i guess it could sell well enough, or at least it'll be downloaded a lot for the free trial. That said i hope the Android version isn't that far away

I´m happy with 10 bucks as long as they put some effort into the game!

Rather see them doing a full fledge mobile mario then a 1 dollar fluff thing.

I really think that 6.99 or 7.99 is the high end of a mobile game that will be widely adopted but I'm sure they will still do good numbers.

9.99 kind of takes it out of easy impulse buy to occupy the kids when you need them to be quiet, which is a huge portion of mobile games. That being said, that Toad Race mode looks really fun and that looks like what I would play the majority of the time. I love doing shadow races on speed runs so that's right up my alley.

Does anyone know if this can connect with your mynintendo account?
