Rosalina unlockable character confirmed.
There may be hope. Considering she hasn't been revealed as a stage piece to the Galaxy stage yet. Makes her more likely to be a assist trophy or a playable character.

Its been 2 weeks since ive been here I think.....I hate finals!

Great assist trophy.
To be fair we already knew Toad was Peach's neutral B as soon as her character profile went up so today's photo doesn't really change anything. That's not to say I think he will be in the game, in fact once again I don't think we are getting any Mario newcomer but I hope I'm wrong.

Marth and Mario Galaxy stage reveals were awesome. Qurupeke lost a bet with me by predicting Lucina would be reveal before Marth would be. We made the bet 4 days before Marth's announcement.
So is bet on?

I really wish Ridley's not playable and that Sakurai's gonna troll hard about it.
I'll never understand these kinds of sentiments in Smash threads.
You know, I wonder if we'll see the return of the soften image filter that was in Melee and Brawl.

We have until next year to verifying if Ridley is in the game or not. I think we wouldn't find out until the game got released.

What are the chances of Saku Lord actually wanting everything new to be a surprise until the game is released? Was Melee like this?
I've been thinking lately that there may not be any "hidden" characters in this game. Sakurai cited Internet leaks and spoilers as the reason he's not doing something like Subspace Emissary again. Going by that viewpoint it'd make sense if he revealed every character before release, since oh well everyone's just gonna look up the final roster online anyway. Plus it's been trendy in fighting games lately to just have the full roster unlocked from the start so everyone can play their favorite character immediately.
I would kinda hate this since discovering/unlocking playable characters is one of my favorite things to do in the Smash series, but consistently "secret" characters like Luigi and Marth being amongst the first reveals makes me wonder.

It would be a bit weird to have Peach fighting Toad with a Toad though... His fate was sealed when Peach was revealed.

No, all the newcomer starters were revealed beforehand while the unlockables were only shown post-release.
It wasn't quite sealed at the time. When Peach was revealed, Sakurai clarified that her moveset wasn't finalized and some of the moves we saw her using could be changed. Which implied that maybe Toad wouldn't be her side-B down the line, which implied that he could be playable.
I think at this point though his non-playability is a pretty sure thing, which is a personal relief to me. Mario newcomer should be Paper Mario! I'd even take Bowser Jr over Toad, he at least has a lot of moveset potential.
Interestingly enough, Rosalina could work too...Actually, the Mario Universe has some really great characters. But Sakurai probably prefers some balance in how many characters appear from each series.

I'm ok with no playable Toad. He's basically the good-guy version of a Goomba and isn't very distinct. I think being subservient to Peach is actually a very nice way of including Toad in the game.
Yeah, being the Assist Trophy variant of Goldeen probably would be a more fitting representation of Toad.
Rosalina just wouldn't be all that interesting of a character from a gameplay point honestly. She seems like another "princess" type character and we already have enough of those in Smash. I guess Sakurai could make her interesting by incorporating mechanics from Galaxy such as the spin attack, shooting starbits, and having Lumas assist her. I guess in that sense, the most interesting way to have her would be to make her a ranged style character that relies on having the Lumas doing her bidding for her while she fights from afar, but honestly someone like Palutena would fit the bill much better for a ranged style attacker with minions.
I'd love her in the game, but I think newcomer-wise there are just much more interesting Mario characters you can pick. (Toad/Bowser Jr./Paper Mario) I do think that she has a strong chance of showing up as either an Assist Trophy or alternate costume for Peach.

You lost me at Toad and Bowser Jr. for being interesting.
Far more interesting than Rosalina. Bowser Jr. at the very least has had multiple appearances as a boss character in the series and can incorporate various mechanics such as the Koopa clown car, his paintbrush, and the Shadow Mario disguise. As for Toad, I honestly don't understand the Smash community's apathy towards him at least in comparison to other Mario characters. (Ex: Daisy, Waluigi) As far as the mainline series goes, he has the most playable appearances aside from the Mario Bros. and Yoshi. He's a character that would force Sakurai to think outside the box a little, but at the same time be rife with moves pulled from mainline Mario games.
I can't be the only one sick of the Mario characters having the same movesets since they debuted in Smash. (Ex: Mario, (SMB, SMW, SMS) Peach (SMB2), etc.) Seeing FLUDD return to Mario's moveset elicited a vocal groan from me, and if Sakurai refuses to change any veteran movesets in a large way then Toad is the best bet I have of seeing any new abilities from recent Mario games make it into Smash.

I feel that if Paper Mario characters are introduced, it will be considered it's own series much like how Wario and Yoshi are considered their own series.
Bowser Jr. would give a varied and colorful movepool based on his numerous appearances as a recurring boss with a large variety of tools.
Rosalina would spin a lot.

What could they offer gameplay wise uniquely that Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Peach already offer? Sounds like more clones, if anything else. Toad can jump and punch! I need him in Smash!
Same for Rosalina (although my knowedge of her is very limited), I know she can jump and spin. lol
Honestly, someone enlighten me. Cause I'm not seeing it.
