Super Smash Bros Wii U Review Thread

For what it's worth, here are some Dutch reviews:

XGN - 9,4
Power Unlimited - 9,2

Basically the biggest "drawback" is that it doesn't do a whole lot more different than Brawl, basically it feels like Brawl 2.0 (beside the shit load of content), which I'm perfectly fine with. It seems to mix the speed from fast the Melee and the somewhat slower Brawl, and that sounds about perfect. Can't wait until the 28th. :)

The game looks fucking brilliant!
As long as Nintendo keeps making Smash games, I´ll keep buying their systems, almost solely for that game.

Why, oh why couldn´t you make a competent Smash clone Sony? You didnt even try...

I feel bad that I really do not have a whole lot of interest in this title. I love my Wii U, and have a pretty sizable catalog of over 20+ titles for it. I really want to support Nintendo as much as I can - including getting Watch Dogs this week - but I just do not have much of interested in SSB.

How can I be persuaded? I am a single player. I do not play any party games in a large, the most recent extend was my buddy and I played MK8 and Black Ops 2 online this past weekend, and that was pretty fun. I do own Brawl, but I just couldn't get ahold of the mechanics in it. My fighting game history is pretty limited to just Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

I do admire the level of detail Nintendo has in this game for their properties, but is that worth the price of $60 to pickup?

sounds like you're just not interested. nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I wish more companies would make games like Smash. I know there are a few that are Japan-exclusive; sadly they'll never make it here due to licensing mess. There's a Smash-like brawler in Japan with Bomberman, Snake, the dude form Beyblade and Easter Island Heads and all kinds of cool stuff. I wish we'd get some of that greatness (although the combat of that game is subpar from what I've heard, it still looks fun)! A competent Sony Smash-clone would be great. Really couldn't get into PS All-Stars.

Stick to one character at first, for awhile. It'll help you come to grips with the mechanics and it'll help you develop skills with one character.

I'd recommend Link. Just stick with Link for awhile before branching off. He controls more or less like you'd expect from a sidescrolling-beat-em-up Link.

lol I'm the same as you. Never liked SSB even if I can see its qualities.

I like playing Smash by myself, well sometimes, despite having a lot of siblings. (I also like playing SM3DW by myself). But if you don't like Brawl, I wouldn't buy it, tbh.

GT's review isn't going up till we can play online, and IMO it's a big oversight to not experience the online component given how Brawl's online experience was less-than-spectacular.

I understand. This seems a little Ubisoftish from Nintendo, especially considering they have said that they can't do anything to improve the online from Brawl.

I would rather devote some time to Brawl, and see if my opinion can be swayed. But from what I hear from the general population, is that Brawl is the weakest of the series.

Online is fine in the 3DS version, and the Wii U has better network performance over the 3DS, so I'm sure it'll be more than playable most of the time.

Probably unless it receives a host of not so great reviews.

I was expecting Bayonetta 2 to become the 2014 GOTY, but it seems Smash is going to beat it.

TLOU:R and GTAV also got great reviews, but I don't think they will be GOTY for the second year, wouldn't be fair.

Weakest in the series or not, all Smash games have the same concept and basic gameplay principles. Brawl is a lot slower and floatier than Melee and I assume Smash 4, but if you didn't like the mechanics of Brawl, you probably won't like 4. See if your opinion can't be swayed though, and also imo there's loads of fun for single-player as well. I plan on doing classic mode with all characters solo, and then there's event matches, stadium and all-stars mode to have fun in, as well as just regular matches.

PS All-Stars is really fun, but the similarities with Smash are skin deep. They should have gone further with it. Ring outs, percentage damage, not having to use a Super to kill someone.

it seems like the base gameplay just doesn't click with you, which is ok, you don't have to buy games you don't like playing lol

If you think the italian one is bad, the spanish one is probably MUCH worse.
If I would have reviewed the game I would have list it as a huge negative, because the "work" gone to it is absolutely abysmal. Would not lower the mark becuase of it though, but will state Im pretty mad with NoE about it.

Fuck that german translator guy thinking he can do a spanish voice, and fuck him even more for trying to do also wiifit trainer and lucario. And fuck everyone at NoE who thought it was a good idea repeating the same mistake as in brawl.

The only professional voice actor there is funnily the voice used for sonic.

And im all for spanish dubs in my games (and nintendo did great with star fox 3ds and Phoneix wright vs Professor layton, so I know they can do it when they really want), but this one is beyond atrocious. And its a pitty becuase the english voice is amazing (and the actor a great guy).

Worst than Italian announcer? No way Man, nobody can surpass "LINK CARTONE"(Toon Link).

My question is who's going to be the far-left outlier that gives it a 6 or 7? Seems like every AAA Nintendo release there's at least one.

Really disappointed about the stage creator news. Wish they would've fleshed it out more.

Smash Tour being chaotic probably won't be a problem though.
