Considering the timing, he could win and still be brought back - no one would know how he did in the end game, like Rupert/Amanda/James/Russell. I don't know if they'd ever actually bring back just one winner (imo they came close with Amanda, who had been spoiled to win China - Eliza approached her asking if she really had won, so even though she lost she still had that target on her back), but it isn't out of the question.

It's all about how it's implemented. But the cast of Pearl Island didn't help much.

Yuuup. The biggest problem with Survivor production is that it's essentially a bunch of jocks. Game theory not their strong suit.
