They are preparing for an epidemic, then again, that's not a surprise, all governments should be preparing for a worst case scenario. The point is that epidemiology must currently suggest epidemic-capable levels of virility, or at least no suggestion of it not. Remember that this is true of almost all strains of normal human flu but rarely before of animal-transmitted, novel strains.

Also he said that the viral presence in the US doesn't suggest 1918 capabilities but perhaps in Mexico City it does? Who knows.

EDIT: Also they did say they have X number of vaccines to be used by the DoD itself if necessary, so surely they have some sort of vaccines to use, regardless of whether it targets that specific strain or not.

I think they were just confused by the journalist's ignorance of what a vaccine actually was. She asked if "vaccines like tamiflu" etc. had been used, that's not a vaccine it's an antiviral, and he answered "we see no reason" to antivirals being used because Obama exhibits no symptoms.

I don't understand... the kids at the school were in Mexico City... they came back with the virus... were they sick pretty immediately? Or did it take a couple of days till the end of the week, before the virus kicked in? How do they leave Mexico last Sunday... but don't have any virus effects till 5-6 days later?
