Switch hands-on videos showcasing its 720p screen

First time I've realized we are going to have a proper battle mode in the best Mk ever... and we can play it in bathroom too.

That looks incredible.

I also think it's pretty safe to say at this point that the screen is IPS, viewing angles are great.

There is a weird humming sound in the background. Has it been confirmed if there is a fan in the Switch? Is that what's making the noise?
I noticed that as well, i assume it's just their mic.

Switch probably higher pixel density than your laptop or PC, why would you compare it to spec-bloated and pricey mobile phones and pads?

Should be around 236? If I'm not mistaken. iPad Air is 264..... But there is more to screen then just PPI and Resolution

That is amazing. If this receives the same amount of attention ds/3ds got.... I cant even think.

I hope it does. Good first party support is most important, in my opinion.

Yeah, this is good. Real good.

Yep!

Damn this is delicious.

This really makes me want to play a super smooth FPS game on Switch. I can't play FPS games on consoles, aiming is just hard when you're 9 feet away from the screen. I have always wanted to portable FPS but third party publishers denied me. 3DS, PSP or Vita. I really hope someone comes up with one on Switch.

Let's hope for a new Metroid Prime game for the Switch. Heck I'll even accept a remaster of the Prime trilogy.

As a non-Wii U owner this is the one thing keeping me interested at the moment.

Yeah its portable aspect is a massive advantage, in my opinion.

yep. I will be using it mostly as a portable and this looks like a dream.

Same and I agree ☺

What's that humming sound though

Ambient sound from the game maybe?

You never played killzone mercenary?

Ot: I want to look at the zelda comparison vids but I vowed to not watch anything but trailers. Grrr

Screen looks wonderful. My main concern is the feel of the joy cons. The joy con grip looks very uncomfortable to me. And I still hope that they will release a flipped R joy con that makes the system symmetrical. I understand they want the controllers to be the same when detached but I know I can't be the only one who wants it for solo play

The screen looks fantastic. Everyone has praised the picture quality, and 720p is perfect for both the DPI and what the hardware can natively push while undocked.

As a handheld, they've knocked this out of the box regarding everything but battery life. And even that's not a huge concern to me.

I think Overwatch would be a good fit for the Switch, if only because of the style of the game/characters. Local multiplayer could be a blast with it.

The Switch could be awesome for FPS games, imo. No screen looking!

Mario Kart on the Switch looks to have more motion blur or something going on that I never saw on the Wii U version. I noticed it Here when hes turning towards the tunnel.

Seems backward to me. Trailers are way more spoiler-filled than any gameplay video.

Oh? I tend to easily forget what I see in trailers, possibly subconsciously. I should probably wait for impressions anyway.

That's why I need handheld FPS games so badly. I found out that they play better on handhelds with Killzone, sadly that was the only proper FPS on Vita.

I feel ya. Resistance could have (SHOULD have) been sooo good.

You do get a similar sensation sitting at a computer desk with a large monitor, fwiw

I played Doom, Titanfall 2 and battlefield 1 on the Vita yesterday yeah its great - you should try it

I know what you're trying to pull here, but without clickable sticks and real R2 and L2 buttons the Vita can't perfectly copy a true console control style.

Although Remote Play is really awesome, it's not fair to compare this to the Switch, which has every input (bar PS4's touch pad) the other consoles have.

PS4 remote play is shit for most games, it runs poorly and the missing buttons is a big pain. Now, I do like it a bit more using my laptop but it's still a bit glitchy.

In the last video she also mentions that Zelda ran worse than what she's seen on Wii-U, framerate issues and some texture issues.

Might just be that it's a more in-dev build, but odd either way.

Or she's plain wrong. They played MK8 extensively on Treehouse and specifically mentioned it was running at 1080p instead of 720p, there didn't seem to be any performance issues either.

Zelda is being shown at the moment and performance seems solid.

In the Engadget video they say Zelda runs better on Wii U - frame drops and texture pop in on Switch. That's not what I expected to hear.

EDIT: Beaten.

Oooof. Bad port?

No, he said "On a TV you can really tell that the graphics don't really look as good as maybe what you'd see on an Xbox one or a PS4 game, but they look a tad better than the Wii U"

Edit: Ok, i just saw the video you were referring to. Basically when you're bringing your memory from a playtest from 6 months ago vs what you're seeing now its really hard to trust their memories, especially when people are giving wildly different experiences - not to mention the games are running at a higher resolution on the Switch...

They're talking about the portable version. Nothing wrong with that.

That guy from the video just said that MK8D looks worse than on WiiU?

Uuhh no. I played MK8D at the event, and I've played countless hours of MK8 on Wii U, and Deluxe is definitely the better looking version. While playing it's not so dramatic, just subtle lighting improvements and of course 1080p. Title screen and menus are dazzling. Resolution bump makes a big difference.

Well that's good to hear.

It's supposed to launch in less than two months... Certainly makes me worried. Mario Kart 8 was supposedly a bit worse than on WiiU too.
DF should do WiiU vs Switch faceoffs.

The Gamespot dude said the handheld version looked slightly worse though.

this is going to be a haven for 2D games if the screen is as good in every unit they sell. if Nintendo actually gets their shit together account wise and keeps pixel perfect mode for VC games they'll get some business. those plus all the indie games that hopefully come to the system.

While you can't tell exactly based off of videos you can definitely get an idea.. and the Switch screen looks great. Resolution is absolutely fine, just a touch behind an iPad for pixel density. Most obvious thing I've seen is great viewing angles (poor viewing angle devices where the colour temp and brightness goes off just a few degrees off absolutely infuriate me).. Also it seems to be anti reflective reducing glare quite a lot but without coming across like a matte screen protector and dulling the visuals.

They really have put together a nice piece of hardware, and cool to see games running at 60fps like MK8 on a handheld! It's such a huge departure from their previous handhelds. No more awfully low res, dull screens, proper analogue sticks and capacitive touch!
