Switch owners two months later: How do you feel about playing with the Joy-Con grip?

It's alright, but I still play with the Pro Controller more.

Actually, sometimes I play with split joycon more than with the grip.

I still use the grip if not using the Pro controller. I prefer using the joycons seperately but after a while my hand cramps to i have to use the grip. The HD rumble on Mario Kart is best with Joycons seperated than on the grip though.

It's not junk-tier, but the range/desync issues kill it for me. I use a pro controller when I'm not playing Switch in handheld mode.

I used it a few times playing Zelda, but found it a bit small. Ideally I'd play it using a pro controller if they weren't so expensive.

I've ended up playing Zelda in portable mode in bed 90% of the time anyway 😌

I think it's okay and ended up being more usable than I expected. That's about it. I only use it when I'm too lazy to grab the Pro Controller when on Tabletop Mode. Otherwise it's just Portable Mode or Pro Controller.

It's been fine to use with the games that I have played so far, but I'll definitely pick up a pro controller down the line.

It feels just like a normal controller to me, which I found surprising as I expected some compromises. My hands are relatively small though.

I used the joy-cons without the grip or straps for Zelda after I returned my Pro Controller. The joy-cons don't make for a great home controller, but at least without the grip you get the benefit of being able to play with your arms relaxed in any position. I'd rather that over a sub-par facsimile of a traditional controller.

The grip is the only controller configuration I use. it works just fine. After briefly getting used to it I forget it isn't a regular controller. I thought I might want to by a pro controller but after using the grip that urge vanished.

Surprisingly comfortable. I was fully expecting it to feel cheap and awkward, and would just be used until I could get a pro controller - but honestly, I'm just going to stick with the grip.

I really like it, it's slick. My only complaint is that the charging grip really should have come with the system. I have no use for the non-charging one, it's a waste to pack it in.

It's not terrible...but it's probably my least favorite means of playing so far. The size of the controller is so bottom-heavy that I keep feeling like it's going to somehow slip out of my hands even though it won't. Surprisingly I actually like the separated joycons slightly more.

I like it. I loaned my switch to a friend with really big hands for a week and I was surprised he found it comfortable. Bought a second set instead of a pro controller.

I tried it once, since I also got the Pro controller.

It felt like a joke when I was holding it. It's so small it feels weird in my hands, but it seems serviceable.

It's surprisingly nice to use, but it's obvious the joycons were made to be held without the extra bit of heft from the grips. The triggers aren't at the right angle for me. The Pro controller is pretty good, but I honestly find myself using split joycobs most of the time.

I've almost never used it. i use the Pro Controller at home, and when I'm away from home I either use it as a handheld, or with one joycon in each hand.

I tried it once on day one. Haven't tried it ever again. Really didn't like it from the fifteen/twenty minutes. Need to get accustomed to it for Splatoon 2, though. Won't have a Pro Controller until a few months down the road, and split joycon, while comfy for the game, wasn't working well for aim.

I tried it for a full one minute on launch before never touching it again.

I really enjoy both the Pro controller and free-hand Joycons. Both feel super comfortable in different settings.

Don't like it. My right thumb tends to rest or bump on the analog stick when I use it, plus the Pro Controller is comfy as hell. It's like a recliner for my hands.

90% of the time, I play with it. Only times I don't use it is when I'm doing multiplayer and each person is using 1 joycon.

I'll probably buy a 2nd set of joycons before I get a pro just cause they already have color variants for it and pro is just black. I've yet to encounter any scenario where I felt like I needed a pro controller instead of the joycon grip.

That's gonna be a no from me, dawg.

Tried it once breifly. 100% Pro controller, split Joycon or handheld since then.

Split Joycon, I have never used the grip.

I think it is the superior way to play, I barely use my Pro Controller.

Finally finished Zelda today, all 150 hours in the joycon grip. Love it. Opened my pro controller today that I bought at launch, to play with Mario Kart 8...love that too. This system has excellent control options, but the pre-emptive uneasiness surrounding the grip before launch was unfounded IMO.

I've only used it a few times. I prefer using them separated. And if I really want a controller, I use my pro controller.

When I eventually have a Mario kart tourney then the grip will come in handy, and to actually answer the question, I think it's fine. The main drawback of the joycons is actually just the short sticks. Some games are a pain due to it being harder to make precise movements with them.

Honestly if not for the Dpad , I think the pro controller would have been totally redundant and unnecessary.

I'm mainly playing in portable mode but when I do decide to play in TV Mode I use the grip and I love it, no way am I paying that much for a pro controller, I'll keep my money thanks.

It's okay but I strongly prefer the Pro Controller. Been kind of curious about mods that remove the actual handles and just leave the center portion.
