Switch owners two months later: How do you feel about playing with the Joy-Con grip?

Completely fine. I use my pro controller, but have no problems using the grip while letting a buddy use the pro controller.

If I could go back I probably wouldn't bother buying the pro controller. It's just a bit better then the grip, not miles better or anything.

Surprisingly comfortable and usable, but with the Pro controller being available I don't get much use out of it but it's an entirely fine way to play games.

My hand cramps when I play Mario Kart with a single joy con... It's pretty bad, especially the stick/button placement between both joy cons are different.

It's terrible. It's far too small and uncomfortable to use. Using a Joycon in each hand is actually really comfortable though. So if I play docked, that's how I do it.

Still haven't bought a Pro controller

I gave it a shot since I didn't want to be one of those people that called it unusable before even trying it and it's become pretty comfortable. I think I like split joycon better, but when I got around to trying that recently I started getting desyncs. I'll probably drop the charging grip as my go-to controller after I get both of my left joycons repaired, but it's not bad at all once you build the muscle memory for holding it. It's just a little small and the grip is an odd angle at first.

The grip has been my main method of play so far. I don't feel like I need a pro controller until I need another controller for multiplayer.

It's okay but i prefer the wii mote/nunchuck style of separate joy cons. Love it and I'm free to play however I like

I love it, bought a second set and grip instead of a pro controller for mario kart.

Wish it was slightly wider and angled sp the button mapping was better. I bet a 3rd party will do this though.

That reminds me.. I think considering the price a non charging grip should be included in a double pack of joy-cons. Oh well here's to better third party grips sometime in the near future

I only ever use it if I have to but it works well enough. Its definitely down there with the original Xbox controller as one of the worst standard controllers Ive used.

Don't like it and haven't used it since getting a pro controller. It's just too small and cramped and I don't like the small clicky buttons. The joy cons are done in handheld mode but I never use them otherwise.

Especially since the set is 80 fucking dollars. I was kinda pissed when I saw that...

bought a pro controller day one, so the grip actually never left the box. Not sure when I will use it, but seeing as I love the Xbox One controller and the Pro Controller is very similar in feel and comfort. I don't see myself using it outside of having to play 2 players with someone else while the system is in dock mode.

Absolutely. The sticker shock for controllers on this system is real.

After trying out the grip I thought that I might prefer to just buy a second pair of joycons instead of shelling out $70 for a pro... until I realized that another joycon + grip set would be way more expensive.

I prefer the Joy-Con grip to any other controller configuration currently available for Switch. It kind of reminds me of a Dreamcast controller. Plus, the Pro Controller's d-pad is just bad, so I'm not nearly as enthusiastic about the Pro Controller as I thought I'd be.

I have permanent wrist injuries that make it hard for me to contort my wrists in certain directions for extended periods of time. The joy con grip is angled in a way that irritates my wrists in a matter of minutes when I use it; thus I bought a Pro controller within a week of buying the system. I love playing with the joy cons when in handheld mode or separated, but not in the grip.

Perfectly comfortable for me.

I don't have big hands.

I can imagine the pro-controller being ergonomically superior, but it doesn't warrant shelling out those extra bucks, as well as keeping another device charged.
I'm loving the fact that switching to handheld mode also charges my joycons, while switching to docked mode charges my console. There's always something charging, so you kinda never have to worry / never have to consciously plug something in.

The Grip is horrible. Too small and offers nothing in return, you also have to detach the joycons to charge them on the system and if you want to charge them directly you have to buy the chargepad which should have been the grip in the first place.

I currently play with both joycons separated and it's very comfortable, it's not perfect(very small buttons, the Analog is not very precise and I had to disable motion controls in Zelda) but my Pro Controller will take another two weeks to arrive... -I've owned the system for 2 weeks now. Charging the joycons is a bit of a hassle as you have to put them on the system, I am eagerly waiting for that pro controller to arrive so I can let them attached on the system forever.

I vastly prefer my pro controller, which I picked up because I found them to be too small for me. They work decently well when attached to the console, at least.

Split Joycon, I have never used the grip.

I think it is the superior way to play, I barely use my Pro Controller.

lol I don't remember this. was this from the reveal?

This shouldbe their commercial.

Really liking it, for long session I prefer the grip rather than playing with the handheld due to the much soft round edges. It fits quite well in my hands so I don't see the urge to buy a pro controller yet.

Played through all of Zelda in either handlheld or with the grip.

I got the pro controller for a second Mario Kart controller, it's way better than the grip.

But the grip is totally fine.

Split handed is nice too.

it is perfectly fine
but I prefer the Pro
But free roaming Joycons are the best for long sessions... battery grip hype!

It's more comfortable to just use the joy cons separated. Grip should go straight from the Switch box to the trash.

This is so wrong it hurts.

The joycons in grip is fantastic. Other controllers feel weird and ungainly after a long period using the grip. It's not better or worse, just a different style of controller. I love how compact it is. It really does melt into my hands.

Over time I grew annoyed with how my fingertips mashed into the back of each joycon. I also realzied that the in-line nature of the two control components on the face of each joycon made it suboptimal to a controller. I think it's a fine compromise for reducing the cost of the hardware while allowing it to be a handheld/console hybrid with two mini controllers, but it's just not ideal if you're going to be spending MOST of your time using the thing as a console.

So I bought a pro controller. Shame about the fucky dpad on the thing.

It feels good for the little I tried it, but I prefer the Pro Controller and when I'm on the go I only have the detached Joy Cons as an option.

Better than the Pro Controller, I gifted mine away after a week because it just couldn't compete with the grips. Can't believe how comfortable the grips ended up being.

Split joycons are fine, but grips are definitely my preferred way to play.

I have rather large hands and really enjoy using it.

It's my favorite way and I don't feel the need for a pro controller.

Been playing Zelda, Fast RMX, and shovel knight.

Depends on what game I'm playing.
Mario kart I want that hd rumble, so split cons.
Puyo puyo is gamepad all the way.

With the dpad on pro being broken, I don't need one , gamepad is well comfy.
