Switch won't have Streetpass or Miiverse

I stopped using Miiverse since they added all that diary stuff, it made everything confusing, but it's still sad to see it going away. I don't know, after Mario Maker and Splatoon using Miiverse in such a good way, it seems like a very strange decisione by them.
I'm hoping for a new social app made in Nintendo to substitute it.

No Streetpass is a shame. Kind of indifferent to Miiverse tbh, but it seems like the people who liked it really used it quite a bit so I'm sorry for those folks.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Streetpass was silly but also great (both the plaza and the Mii stuff and the silly little things that individual games had and Miiverse was top tier. Built in forums/platform for sharing stuff was great.

I remember posting about finishing my living dex Pokémon X/Y and sharing a quick, silly, Banksy piece with a Splatoon twist and seeing so many comments and likes on it and it was so fun to just browse the Miiverses for games and seeing what people posted and shared.

I think both Miiverse and Streetpass were fun for a while but when they got bloated the user experience killed any enthusiasm for the apps.

Miiverse was terrible to use on the 3DS and obnoxious to log in everywhere outside of the Wii U.

Streetpass was a whole mess. Not enough "space" to hold passes for a good 2/3rds of its life span meaning if you ever went to big events, you'd be constantly having to empty your "inventory" every few minutes and there were so many games that you'd either have to stop for an extended amount of time to play everything or acknowledge that you'd have to lose some passes.

Still kind of bummed though. Streetpass was fun when you'd pass the same people on a semi-regular basis and Miiverse was fun in general, especially with its integration in games.

A real pity, as both of them were genuine surprises that I got more mileage and entertainment out of than I ever expected. After all that effort to hook Miiverse up to the 3DS, too.

One of the great social experiences I've had in games, and there haven't been many. It was a totally self-guided, emergent substitute for a fixed achievement system. You should have seen the Splatoon graffiti the night Iwata died.

Jesus Nintendo, why don't you burn all of your bridges.

Miiverse was one of the best things to come out of the Wii-U.

Between this and the paid online and the overpriced hardware/controllers, I might as well buy a PS4.

Disappointing and a bit baffling if there is no Miiverse alternative or replacement. I liked how some games had Miiverse integrated within them. Then there's the great art many talented people created. It was also a great place to get hints on games when you get stuck without getting the full solution unless you really needed it. Just a cool place to see what people would share about the games they played.

thats a shame, streetpass is pretty fun. I've met a few friends in some of my classes cause i started to recognize their miis and talked to them afterwards.

Traditionally when you start charging for online services, you have to offer more of them rather than less.

As someone who doesn't live in a city and thus never got any passes on his 3DS I will not miss Streetpass and feeling like I'm not getting the full proper experience out of games because of it.

Hmmm, kinda bummed about Streetpass going away. It fits with the portable and face to face gaming theme they are going for. Can't you see the Switch commercial where some hip millennials streetpass each other in a coffee shop, then challenge each other to a milking duel?
:o

I wasn't expecting StreetPass, but the lack of Miiverse surprises me, especially with a screenshot button. But, as it as already been asked, is it being replaced by something?

...

Hope there's still a way to post drawings in splatoon, but yeah...

They have no fucking idea how to handle their community, it's astounding.

This hurts my heart. While StreetPass and Miiverse were weird Nintendo things that probably came as a result of not really understanding the market, I thought they were super cute and I love that kind of shit.

The weird, simplistic and lonely feeling UI designs Nintendo still seems to be deploying is probably another example of a direct result of a detached Nintendo, but something about that stuff I think is really sweet and nostalgic. Maybe I'm part of the problem.

i kinda refuse to believe miiverse and streetpass wont return, edited versions that appear in the online paywall? they've made a lot of investment to suddenly let the concepts die.

They handled it quite well with miiverse at first. It was a great place to chat about games, get help, read reviews, post screenshots, and view fanart. And plan MK8 & Splatoon sessions with friends.

I'm sure scrapping miiverse is a cost-saving measure, but what the hell is my online fee going to pay for? I'm not going to buy into their service for LESS features than we had on the Wii-U.

I'm hoping that this is simply because DeNA weren't able to integrate the nuts and bolts of Miiverse into whatever new system they were building. Maybe it can still be implemented at the game level, or something?

Splatoon 2 without a Miiverse type system would be a much worse experience.

Miiverse was also a great way for Devs, especially indie devs, to converse with fans and share info on updates and get feedback and so on.

"Previously, we said that we expect several generations of Nintendo hardware will be linked by the Nintendo Network. In a similar way, the social elements of Miiverse are also designed for Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and future Nintendo devices."

Aww. Miiverse was a lot of fun.

Uh, real-life social media (Facebook, Twitter)?

Eugh. I'm never ever in a situation where I think "hey lets share this screenshot of a game with all my Facebook friends!!". Miiverse was a great little gaming social network to share things you wouldn't share on normal social media.

I really enjoyed Streetpass over the years.. didn't get much out of Miiverse, though.
It was really fun in everydays public transport.

I hope they just mean they are dropping the name, and something similar will take its place. Wipe the palette clean from any association with the Wii

Exactly, Miiverse was so great because it was an escape from all the family members and non-gamers on Facebook. The people were what made Miiverse a better community than normal social media.

The only 3ds game my wife plays are those little streetpass games, she actually BOUGHT all of them after I set up home pass on our home router (i just wanted extra crap for mario and zelda). She loves that stuff and even takes her 3DS for her morning walks with her friend so she can get 10 coins and buy stuff in game.

Kinda good news tbh, she can just continue on with her 3ds and won't care about the switch at all.

My wife too. It was a lot of fun on vacations and filling in different countries. Hawaii was great for Japan. It was also fun doing things like figuring out which employee at our local coffee shop was the Nintendo fan.

I'm starting to agree with Griss, some of the Nintendo style and feeling is missing with this console. It's still early tho.

No loss to me. I only received a decent number of street passes a single year and 90+% were the same guy where I worked. Even then it wasn't terribly useful or exciting. As for Miiverse I opened it once to see what it was and since then only a handful of times for MyNintendo coins.

There is no reason that these features cannot eventually be folded into the online service smart app. They were both good ideas.

That's what I would expect. They're good ideas just not implemented well for the West.
