New "deep dive" and gameplay vid. Only one working for me so far, but... new stuff, new thread. Looks really cool to me :D

Also some new shots from their payday:

More at the site.

Some of the textures look a little plain, and I was bummed to not see very much of the melee stuff they're doing in action (like in the announce trailer), but overall the game seems to have some pretty solid mechanics and action. Looking forward to it.

And here's the gameplay vid.

Looks great.

Of course not really anything like the original, but kind of a more action oriented Deus Ex. Looks definitely cool, and more interesting than what 2K is doing with X-Com.

Sigh, its looks great but must every refresh turn in to a fps? First X-Com and now Syndicate? This doesnt invoke any of the feelings I got playing the old Syndicate.

Done with the videos.

Pros:
-They actually acknowledge the first game in a rather respectful manner. Take note, 2K.
-It looks like a really fun shooter.
-I dig the Deus Ex-y vibe and the AR thingamajigs
-Defence turrets that don't suck?! Surely this must be a first in this goddamned gen.

Cons:
-It's still Syndicate in name only. I want to be a hearthless CEO, damn it!
-It's bit too full of tropes.
-I really don't like the notion of Syndicate agents being other than mindless drones :(

I guess I'll keep an eye on it, but mostly because I'm a whore for cyberpunk stuff.

You know what this actually looks pretty sweet. At least they're making a quasi-attempt with the co-op mode. If that has enough meat to it, it could be a nice companion to the single-player.

More cyberpunk is always good.

Yawn.

Please EA, save us the bullshit of linking this to the original. It´s bad enough it´s called Syndicate already.

Looks like Deus Ex with a less silky smooth and eye candy art direction but infinitely better gunplay.

I'm really liking what I saw so far.

Gameplay looks really interesting, and overall the general aesthetic is marvelous. One thing, like I've mentioned before, is the HUD. It's lovely to look at, but it's everywhere at once, it's a little intrusive. I'm sure I'll get used to it when I'm playing it on my PC, so the resolution will help.

Other than that, I am very much looking forward to this title.

nice. reminds me of fear2

yeah. I want to roll around in open world levels with a couple of wingmen and drug up for massive gang combat that looks like this game. but also research weapons and upgrades and fight over territory and stuff.

Turrets in TF2 are invaluable. Rage also has some good ones. Borderlands, too.

The gameplay video was interesting enough up until those shielded drones that you had to breach before they'd take damage. Felt like a rather unimaginative implementation of the mechanic.

Hopefully there aren't a lot of enemies like that.

And the other guy looks very much like Swedish poet Marcus Birro:

I hope to God the game is better than his writing.

Aha! :) Very true.

On another note, Starbreeze sure know how to make a game look wonderful in motion. Their post processing effects in the recent Riddick games made those games look incredible when moving, and nice in stills too. This looks a lot cleaner visually, so lovely looking screenshots will be much easier to achieve.

I didn't hate these videos as much as I thought I would. If it's influences are Deus Ex then this may turn out to be great fun - I am not convinced it will be as good as HR but anything close is a welcome breath of fresh air.

edit: lest we forget the key here is, Starbreeze.

The hacking mechanic looks awesome and if they actually do it right and it's not just tacked on then it could definitely separate this from all of the other FPS out there. For me though, it all comes down to how good the co-op is.

Well, TF2 goes without saying. As for the rest... they either have piss poor aiming, shoot gummy bear bullets or can barely withstand the impact of a bumblebee.

Syndicate's ones look fast, precise and brutal. I think they cut several goons in half. You know, just like an actual turret should do.

Eh, i'll probably get eaten, because of what i say, but whatever.
I complained about this game not being real Syndicate enough already so, its time to focus on gameplay.
I hate when games are designed around pad, 'press X multiple times to open something heavy', mandatory skill with bullet time to make game easier, mandatory autoaim for everything, limited use of skills on only parts of environment that can be detected by autoaim, notification everywhere because player is not inteligent enough to figure it by himself, tons of cover to make combat slower, only 3 skills of course supported by automated execution to be pad friendly and one/two weapon carry limit.

Why on earth does the agent have a "friend and mentor"? They're supposed to be abducted, augmented, mind controlled drones.

I don't think that many players would like to play as a mindless drone in a story-driven game. If it was a strategy your agents would be drones because they are just expendable units. But playing as a mindless drone is another thing.

and don't start with "why they turned it into shooter then", it's happened already just because

It's the reality of the market as that is the most popular genre. The same how 3rd person was last generation and platformers were before that. If they can filter an IP through the most popular genre they will try because they want to make as much money as possible.

Not trying to shit the thread up, serious question.

Personally I just watched the trailer and the gameplay video. I will buy this game, looks solid and fun. But my buddy tells me the game is getting some unwarranted hate. Is t true? Can't see why to be honest.

Well aren't most FPS protagonists mindless drones already?

you see, if you change the genre (from fast-paced strategy into shooter) and perspective (from isometric into first-person) this thing can happen. It's like making COD into a turn-based isometric game. People would be pissed.

I've never played the original Syndicate and to be honest the type of game it was doesn't really appeal to me, but that trailer looked like something I would play. I guess I'm the target audience for this new game. Was that music in the trailer a remix of original Syndicate music or something?

I really don't see why some people appear to be so excited about it. As nice as the presentation is, with the body animations in first person and what not, at the moment it looks like sci-fi COD. Shouldn't we wait to see if there's more than shooting missions and scripted events before calling it Deus Ex-like just because of the special abilities (which could have just as well existed without the augment back story, it's pretty standard stuff really)? I mean, it might still be good fun if it's just an FPS that allows you to play it stealthy or all out action or whatever with some good, varied level design and fun gunfights and special skills, but that alone won't make it Deus Ex. Even though Human Revolution leaned to that kind of game itself for the most part, at least they tried a few half assed attempts at a more open design with it, keeping the legacy. I've yet to see anything like that in this game yet. If you really want to hype it before seeing more maybe at least call it new-Perfect Dark or something instead of Deus Ex?

The shooting looked great in that gameplay video, which makes me happy since it was always a weakness in Starbreeze's previous games. I really dig the weapon sounds as well.

In the beginning it looked a bit much with all those breaching signs above the enemies heads, but I guess it was him holding a button? Later on they didn't appear over the enemies.

I have to say that Deus Ex was an average game. I hated how they presented it as an open world game, and they were really trying to sell the stealth aspect. Sorry, but crouching behind boxes isn't stealth.

Sorry, a little bit OT.

lol, any mechanic allowing you to stay hidden is stealth. Walking in a box isn't stealth too, it's idiocy. And becoming invisible in a shadow is impossible from scientific point of view.

That gameplay video looked great. The breaching looks really fun and the weapons look pretty solid too. Graphics are great, especially the motion blur and depth of field. I love the look of the HUD too. I hope the PS3 version is up to snuff. Starbreeze doesn't have a good track record on PS3 but i'll definitely be keeping my eye on this.

The walkthrough video looked pretty good. Not amazing but pretty good. What got me excited about this game from the first trailer was how intense it looked while this seemed a little too easy. All of the mechanics look pretty solid and fun though and he said this was an early mission so I'm sure it gets more intense later.

I did love how nonchalantly these guys kill random people. Gave it an interesting slant to the atmosphere considering you're usually playing the uncontested hero in these types of games.

This looks okay, the gameplay presentation wasn't very well executed. The HUD is crazy, I think there's too many text displays all over the screen, it's overwhelming. I do appreciate the fact that it' a FPS that is unlike the COD mold.

The stealth in DX was really well made, I don't understand what you're talking about. Multiple paths in ever level, disabling cameras, stealth takedowns and whatnot. I played it like a stealth game and had an awesome time.

I'll stick with you on this. Probably the most overhyped game of the year.

I wasn't impressed by the hacking thing. It looked like your basic modern day press X to awesome mechanic with no limitations. Also didn't like the giant targets appearing over enemies heads basically helping you find them in a big fight.

I don't know it looks like one of those dumb shooters I could just turn my brain off and enjoy for a day but this is about as close to Syndicate as Halo is.
