Syndicate - new trailer(s)

Just watched the gameplay footage again. Does anyone else think that the walking speed looks really, really slow? It may be because the guy playing was going slowly to show it off but it seemed like he was moving at a crawling pace.

Watched the level playthrough, that looked really dry. The combat had no real oomph to it, just kind of slow and plodding.

WTF. I thought the co-op stuff was supposed to be the original games re-imagined?

I think you misunderstood. They are taking missions from the original game but it still going to be the new style of play. Why this even necessary I don't know.

Also this comment:
EA has described Syndicate as a "really tough" shooter that will challenge hardcore gamers.

"It's cool," Jeff Gamon, EA Partners executive producer, told Eurogamer. "It's an excellent shooting experience. We think our AI is best of breed. It's very light on scripting. It's a very challenging, hardcore shooter game. It's very traditional in that sense. It's tough. It's really tough. It's challenging."

And he pointed to one mission in particular: Atlantic Accelerator, a mission from the first game famed for its difficulty.

Syndicate's four-player co-op experience takes some of the settings from the first game and reimagines them in a new genre. Atlantic Accelerator is one of them.

"It's part of the legacy really," Gamon, who played Syndicate in the early nineties and completed Atlantic Accelerator, said. "Atlantic Accelerator is a case in point. It's not punishing, I don't think. What makes Syndicate fun is it is challenging without being frustrating. When you get beaten by the AI it's because they've got around you. It's not because they can bull's-eye you through cover from a million miles away. It's all about playing like a hardcore gamer. It's a good challenging experience."

Yeah that trailer didn't really show anything interesting. This sounds kind of cool though:
The team, especially Roger, have also taken a great deal of inspiration from MMOs such as Dark Age of Camelot. Within the Syndicate COOP, you are able to create Syndicates of your own and invite your friends to join. Then through a system of looting and spending upgrade points you are able to build your character and Syndicates to take on the rest of the world in Global leaderboards. Making this progression system compelling and satisfying was certainly something we looked to the MMO genre as inspiration for.

The new screenshots remind me a lot of Mirrors Edge, did they steal some level designers from DICE? :)

Love the look of the multiplayer. People need to understand that this won't be the like the previous games. I accepted that a while ago. Its an fps. What did you guys think the multi was going to look like?

When they said it would please old fans I was not expecting more of the same dull new age game. Otherwise EA definitely doesn't understand what we wanted.

Wait now that I said it like that, why the hell was I surprised? EA never cares about what gamers want.

I really hope Starbreeze's signature narration and story-telling elements are in here. The gunplay looks solid as ever, and visually it definitely trumps DE:HR in realizing that Blade Runner-esque corporatocracy.

That shot you posted actually looks a ton like the docks from DXHR. I know we're past the comparisons between it and Syndicate, but it made me laugh a little.

I remember in that 1up article about how Starbreeze has changed in the past couple of years that it mentioned EA sent people to oversee the project. DICE has been known to lend a hand with other projects before, like with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit last year, and Medal of Honor.

Not believing what you were seeing with your eyes and falling for the "please the old fans," line screwed you over. Believe what you see, not what the company says.

This game looked nothing like the old game. Anyone that thought the multi was going to be drastically different from the single player was fooling themselves.

Deus Ex's look is influenced by blade runner, but they never intended to copy blade runner. I sure if they set out to do that they would have achieved it.

To be fair, it's a lot more colorful.
