Team Fortress 2 - Bidwell's Big Plan [Microtransactions]

Holy shit! New items and new hats!! Thank you ValveGod!

oh and the paying for items thing is not a big concern for me since the items are obtainable for free.. you have to be quite foolish to buy them.

I would bet a sizeable quantity of money that Valve would not delay the release of this game or stop work on it because of the trademark dispute.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm sure the game is progressing just fine, I just see the counterclaim as a tactic by Pendragon and Guinsoo to attempt delaying the game since it is a direct competitor with their own product. (They say they are doing it 'for the community' but I highly doubt that)

But I digress, this is not the thread to talk about DotA.

*TF2 update comes out*
"Awesome, I'm gonna play some TF2"
*Downloads update*
*Boots up TF2*
"Can't wait to try this new stuff!"
*Cannot connect to Steam, nothing works*

You'd think Valve would have this sorted out by now.

I'm going to post the most sensible thing I've read all day regarding this update (from the steam forums no less):

DAMN, BEATEN! :lol

But, there ya go. You wanted your trading system, and now you get it without the ebay crap (well, maybe selling steam accounts in there... but that's already being done).

Are you serious? The most expensive stuff on the store is $5, most of it is around $2 or even less. How is that price rape? Horse armor was $15, that awful re-skinned WoW mount was $25 and yet people get upset at this. Amazing.
Talk about selective memory.

Horse armor was $2.50. This buying weapons stuff is crap. Unlockables in TF2 has been such a mess. The whole thing primarily appealed to people with aspergers who need to feel like they've accomplished something by getting a pat on the head and a new hat.

Unlockable weapons just don't make sense in a competitive game. They never did, and they just get more baffling and obtuse when you start including pay-for methods of unlocking them. These weapons should just be given to everyone.

The biggest FPS of all time uses an unlockable weapons system that takes a million times longer to unlock than TF2 does.

What? That's crazy. You can burn through the unlocks in MW2 way faster than in TF2.

Could be awesome, but I don't want to see the game go the MMO route like it has.

Not going to call it a douche move, just one I disagree with though.

I agree, but at the same time I'm not really bothered by unlockable weapons in TF2 since in MOST cases -- especially true for primary weapons -- the original weapon/tool is superior while the added ones mostly offer a different but very specific style of play due to having serious downsides.

One question- can you give away all your stuff to someone else for nothing?

I got a friend who still wants to play TF2, so I may just do that. Save her some money.

Oh wow, reading the interview. This update sounds ridiculous. Far and away the best update they've ever done. Hell, I can't wait to start dueling with people. :lol

Not in my experience. I've gotten all the items in a class update on the first day or so by just playing normally. It also helps that usually the new weapons aren't upgrades at all. Unless you're talking about hats or something.

IDK but if you want you can test with me all the items.

Yeah, having to play 20 minutes a week for an item drop = Having Asperger's. It's incredibly easy to get the weapons if you actually play the game.

In the PC Gamer interview (I think), it's confirmed that you can.

Maybe Valve is trying to do what the non-TF2 PC gaming community has been trying to do for the last couple years.

Kill Team Fortress 2.

It will probably make it more popular instead. People will be willing to pay for this, especially since the game is established already.

I'd pay $10 right now though for a TF2 Classic with the rebalancing changes, but none of the unlocks.

I have a hard time getting worked up over optional DLC. I'm not going to buy anything so I don't care. All I care about is that there is a shitload of free new content for TF2, and I'm going to play it until I pass out. See you guys!

TF2 isn't a competitive game. Neither is MW2. Halo maybe.
If you play these games for competition you're doing it wrong, I don't see how you can have any fun playing these games super serious.

The supply crates sound cool but how do you get a key?

I think you have to buy it

:lol :lol :lol

reminds me of "Smash Bros. isnt a fighting game"

I've spent over 200 hours in this game. I have absolutely no problem laying down $5 or $10 for some items that I'll have fun with. I'll get the random items through play but I'll probably buy my favorite hats.

Edit: Do vintage items look different? I can't tell.

Pretty much, Ive put in a good 400+ hours into TF2 and I have never gotten a hat drop, so it might be nice to buy a few.

I just want to thank in advance everyone who purchases these cosmetic items for subsidizing the continued free updates of the DLC that actually matter (ie, maps and game modes).

You guys rock!

Look, people have been asking for trading for ages. The only way to implement trading and not have an e-bay black market is to offer the option to buy from Valve.

No wonder this took so long, this is huge. Even the in-game item catalogue alone would've been a big deal. Still not sure what to make of some of this.

It actually works really well in a competitive setting.

It just requires a few modifications here and there (6v6, class limits, no crits, no damage spread, select unlocks banned) and you get a very nice game that blends individual and team skills well.

Just because it has cartoony visuals doesn't mean that it doesn't have very solid gameplay underneath.

If you ran your own server you could easily set that up. It's pretty simple to ban select items.
