What's "Lost Coast"? Is it included in Le Boxque Orange?

It was a tech demo level to show off some of Valve's new engine enhancements like HDR. You play as Gordon Freeman on this island.

I too pre-ordered it today even though I played HL2 on my brother's Steam account already. At least I have not played HL2: Ep 1 yet.

No

It's just a tech demo really, you won't miss much. It would be redundant as the Lost Coast was made to show off a feature HL2:Vanilla didn't have.

HL2 360 will have HDR (Among other things), so there's no need.

I've tried with all my might to pre-purchase the orange box, but the "Pre-Purchase" button literally won't work, anyone else having this problem?

Every time there's a new Team Fortress 2 video that shows a new character, we're all dead silent in front of our monitors watching it. Especially the animations students. They eat that shit up like it was fudge!

The hand-crafted animations are just mind-blowing. All the little subtle details, especially in the part where he puts his beer down is just phenomenal! Good work Valve! :D

Been thinking about this.

The package is slimy, and very very clever on valves part.

They say HL2 and episode 1 are free, I do not believe this.
The individual prices for each part of the package is hugely inflated to put off anyone buying them, they are also unavailable until after release causing MORE people to opt for the box.
The TF2 beta causes more people to impulse jump in.
The people that already own HL2 and Ep1 give them to a friend. They enjoy them, decide they want to play more. But they can only access more by buying the orange box. They then have HL2 and Ep1 again to give away. This continues on and on and on.

Really Valve could have done the black box, they'll just make more money this way.

I don't think price is what really is bothering people. Whats bothering them and me, is that whilst this is a good deal we're being given something we don't need and we do not believe it is free. Remove HL2+Ep1, knock off $10 black box tada problem solved.

The thing is that I don't think that the games as they are priced individually are that bad of a deal. $30 for an eight or so single-player FPS expansion with developer commentary? Sounds about right. $20 for a innovative puzzle game? Sounds about right. $30 for a team-based online first person shooter with high production values and a large following? Sounds good.

I'm not trying to be an apologist, though I am a fan of Valve, but they really pretty much are giving the HL2 back catalogue away for free, and allowing you to give away the parts you don't need.

I'd expect to see an updated Source Multiplayer Pack offering (TF2/CS:S/DOD:S) and some other permutations of products later on to cater to those customers.

That's good enough for me!

I failed. :lol :lol . Said my CPU wasn't enough. Which is BS since i can play HL2: DM perfectly fine.

I have never purchased anything from steam before but this seems tempting. I have never really played HL2 / HL2:E1 as i was never really into half-life to begin with. I should play it though after all these years.

Ah so confused. How annoying.

Major let down though knowing i have to pay for something to get into the beta :(

Maybe I should be bitching about the Valve Complete Pack because I own most of the games, but there are some in there that I don't own and I could have saved money if I had just waited 10 years to buy that instead?

Just do some simple math, if it's not worth it, don't get the package. If it really bothers you that fucking much, just don't buy it. I've never seen people bitch so much about a deal before. It's insane. Sigh. I think I'm done with this thread.

It doesn't £25 for all that is awesome, just a little cheaper without HL2 and Ep1 wud be even more awesome. It is good value for money, but it could have been even more so. This is a wise move by valve. I will be buying it regardless, TF2 demo pushes me over the edge.

If you're buying the PC version, are you also buying the console version too? I am but I just wanted to see who was.

FYI for those who are getting this. Valve is releasing the content update pack which includes the updated maps, models, etc for the Half-Life 2 main campaign. They were created for the 360 version but the update will be optional for PC owners. No date on it yet, but I hope its soon. I want to go through the games again before EP2 hits and it would be nice to see them with HDR and all the other goodies included.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but for those people that have the ATi Black Box voucher registered with Steam, it has now been activated and you can begin pre-loading the games.

I'm gonna hold of purchasing the orange box until the weekend and hopefully by that time we will know something about the black box deal on steam.

That system requirement test fails my video card because it's a weird laptop card that calculates memory oddly, but everything else is a comfortable pass and the HL2 demo runs extremely smoothly at native res. with everything on, so hmm.

I tried to prepurchase this earlier but I can't get my credit card billing info to match the boxes given (Irish addresses don't have a State/Post Code), so I'll have to wait until next week and use my English address/card.

Oh and $45 for three new games, two old classics, and new levels of Peggle is being raped? Really?

Please produce the name of your dealer so that I may get a piece of this PRIMO, PRIMO shit that you're smoking.

So, Steam is letting me preload TF2 (using ATI Black Box code), but not HL2:Ep2 or Portal. Does this mean I get in the beta?!

Wait your from AUS?

Yes.

I don't want to go on a rant here, but what prevents Valve from selling shit to Australia? Isn't this the whole fucking point of Steam, an international store without going through the bullshit you go through with retail? So far it seems to be mimicking the retail experience, right down to the fact I fucking swear I remember buying CS:Source, only to see it not in my games list now.

Wow this is bullshit. I was thinking about picking it up, first purchase on steam. But it's not available in aus. wtf is this shit. Oh well no money for valve.

Yeah, episodic content blows. No sale.

I am pretty sure wow gave up on the whole episodic content idea, check sam and max for how it might have been done better.

This is just the pre-order pack genius. You'll be able to buy Episode 2 by itself when it comes out.

Now can you back that up at all, please? I'm not saying you're wrong. I've looked on Gamespot, IGN, Steam, Ebgames, and I don't see anything except the Orange Box.

It's on Steam. Look at the package details.

Yeah I saw that, and from there I was looking for the link or extension to Episode 2 by itself and didn't find it,....I think they only showed the price of each component of the Orange Box so that they could add it all up at the end and show you the 'value' you're getting.

It will be, Doug V saying so, 2nd post. But it'll be $30, it's on steam as that, although u cannot buy it seperately until it's released.
... I hope so. I'm a huge HL fan, and as much as it will pain me to not play the next chapter, I'm prepared to do so if I have to pay for all that other stuff to get it.

Edit: Ah I just saw your edit. False alarm then. I take back everything I said. Thanks.
