Team Fortress 2 Sniper Update Info, Pyro Megaton

I'll gladly take anything from scout, spy or sniper :( I think I'm on the borked side... So many hours yet only a kritzkrieg.
 
SO far, I've unlock Natascha and the piss-bottles for the sniper with the new system.

Man, I'm not sure its random though. I mean I play Medic whenever a team doesn't have any and I've gotten both items when I've played my best with him.

I'm sure its random, but I like to think your more poised to unlock one, the better you do.
 
I may be by myself on this one but, I liked the achievement servers. It was easy and enjoyable to hop in, play for an evening, get your new toys then join the rest of the community.

At least that way you knew what you were getting and not frustrating like it is now.
 
Besides some older stuff, I've also unlocked Dead Ringer and Huntsman. I gotta say, I really like the Huntsman. I want to get the shield so I can go bow-shield-kukri like an old australian tribesman!

I am dying to get the huntsman and the cloak and dagger, but now the game isn't even giving me duplicate drops. =(

I did, got nothing. There could be many factors affecting that though. I haven't seen any confirmed reports of success from the achievement_idle servers, anyone else?

You get items randomly, no matter what. You can get it just standing still in spawn, randomly walking around, right at the round start, etc.
 
As I've posted in the other thread, I've only played Thursday night, and just got off again today, and a total of about 12 hours with about 12 weapons found. I finally got duplicates today, but got three weapons I didn't have yet, one for Scout, Sniper, and Spy each. So now I'm down to one more needed for Heavy, two for Scout, and one each for Sniper and Spy.

I'm wondering if people with less items/less playtime get more stuff faster. Before patch day I only had 5 weapons, 3 for Pyro and 2 for Medic, and the 3rd Pyro Milestone one I got the night before the update. During the first hour or two of the update I got the 3rd Medic Milestone, but then found an extra Ubersaw today anyway.
 
Is there a way to switch which side of the screen the weapon is on? Huntsman is on the left side of the screen for some reason.

You normally hold a bow with your left hand, unless you're left handed, then you'd hold it in your right.

Except when you draw it, it still remains on the left side, held by your right hand.

It's wrong in first person, but correct when other people see you.

That's how you'd draw the bow right-handed. It just has a messed up animation that makes it look like you're pulling it left-handed.

Either way, yes it's wrong in 1st person.
 
I totally don't like the idea of weapon trading. Because you just know the chatboxes are going to be violated with "LOOKING FOR LEVEL 10 AXE WILL TRADE LEVEL 5 BOXING GLOVES????????".

I hope Valve knows where they're going with this. Or, rather, I wish they'd waited until all the class updates had finished before introducing the system.

Instead of being able to work for the new weapons and get something, it's totally out of my control and I get nothing.


I see others getting pickups constantly, but so far I don't get anything.


Plus it's a little odd to see people getting weapon upgrades for no reason that I spent hundreds of hours to get :/


I do like the new maps though.

Some of us were playing the shitty/itemless 360 version and were excited for the new toys when we decided to move on and buy it from Steam.

or maybe that's just me. Finally unlocked the FaN though

The thing is I want to try out the new weapons to see if they'll make spy and sniper more fun for me to play as. It's kind of annoying when you keep getting duplicates.
 
So it's time based then? This explains the idle engineer I saw in one of those 24/7 servers AFK for hours in the same place swinging the wrench endlessly. Probably taped the left mouse button down.

That's an amazing bit of information but it doesn't really help me.
 
I went into one of those achievement_idle servers and picked up an ambassador so far, still afk spectating tho, ill check every 10 minutes or so I guess :lol
 
Starting play about 2 hours ago, still haven't found a decent server. I really like 24/7 2Fort but they are all full or want me to download a bunch of crap. Going to try to unlock every upgrade in the game at the moment, as its been forever since I played last.
 
I'd probably be more upset about this update if I hadn't got the Jarate early. Now, whenever I'm feeling down, I throw a jar of pee at someone. And looking at someone soaked in urine and on fire, I think, 'It's not so bad.'

You can set it to not download any sounds, or to not download anything. Options->Multiplayer I believe.

Pre-Diablo 3: OMFG I CAN'T WAIT! It'll be the best game ever!!!!

After the announcement: WTF! Too much colour! It's fucking WoW styled! Fuck you blizzard!

Same with Dragon Age because they added origins to the name. Same with a million games. Pretty sad such an amazing developer gets such hatred and hundreds of "fuck you valve, you suck" just because some pasty nerd playings for 98 hours straight doesn't get a new toy. There forums are in meltdown.
 
Just got the Huntsman, it's pretty great. It really does a good job of mixing up the class, it's a completely different experience both in playstyle and in aiming. Makes Sniper much more palatable to me since I prefer projectile aiming over hitscan sniping. It's not easy but once you get it down, damn do those headshots feel great.

Nope, it's pretty goofy like that. You can disable the viewmodels if you prefer though, just keep in mind that the arrow is fired from slightly to your left. I don't know what Valve was thinking with that one.

And every one of those nerds will keep playing, no matter what bullshit they right on the forums. Just like every one of those nerds complaining about Diablo 3 will buy it day 1.
Because the developers know how to make games. Random dipshits do not.
 
It will never cease to amaze me that people are swearing off completely what is most likely the BEST MP GAME GOING just because of an unlock system on extra weapons.

News flash, assholes - I haven't unlocked a single weapon since the achievements started, and the game is STILL FUN WITHOUT THEM. The only think I've gotten from the new random unlock system is a Sandvich, which I don't really even use, but guess what, I'm still having fun anyway.

TF2 is a great damn MP game no matter how you look at it; a new unlock system for extra weapons doesn't change that.
 
So how about those new maps, huh guys?

Pipeline is excellent and I hope to see it added to every server's rotation. The last section is the best, and I hope they make a single long map in the same vein, ala Badwater.

Many of us have enjoyed the game for quite a while now. Valve has spent the past two weeks hyping the new toys, so of course we want to play with them. At least with the Achievement system you had an idea of what you needed to do to get them, with a drop system you could be keeping your eyes peeled and gunning for certain classes more often in the hopes they drop watches or jars of their own urine (or maybe the secrets of Saxton Hale), with this system you watch somebody get the Ambassador for joining a server, while you've been playing for hours on hours and just got your fourth Bonk! drink.

"Look at this cool new Sniper weapon! And this shield! And isn't this Jarate funny? And look, a Spy gun that does headshots! New ways to cloak and feign death! How do you get these, you ask? ...Well, the servers will randomly decide to give you items while you play. Not on any specific schedule and with no logic to it all, including tons of currently-useless duplicates of weapons you may already have. No stat differences, no way to trade them. Isn't this awesome? Enjoy the new weapo- oh you can't. Well, enjoy watching others get them until our server programs decide to gift you!"
 
Sure, there are some asshats swearing off the game, but the majority are just complaining about an ill-advised system. I don't see anything wrong with people sharing their reactions, positive or negative. It certainly hasn't effected my love for the game or Valve, just because i think they implemented this system poorly.

I love the new arena maps btw. Also never played on Watchtower before. Fantastic map.

The last section on Pipeline has given me some INSANE matches.
