Team Fortress 2 Sniper Update Info, Pyro Megaton

so anyone else think the razor back has a buff in its future? Thing has 1 charge, slows you down, takes away your melee weapon, and can be seen by enemy spies who will just shoot you instead.

I say take away the speed nerf and give a +25hp to that bad boy.
It doesn't take away your melee weapon, it takes away your jar of awesome contaminated bodily fluids.

I agree it's not great, though after getting backstabbed for the 5th time while I was standing in a corner with my back to the wall to prevent getting backstabbed, I almost considered wearing it. :P If anything, it might be worth it for snipers camping near a sentry gun. They could take out things beyond the gun's range, and the gun can deliver instant karma to spies who might be dumb enough to try to shoot the razorback-wearing sniper.

More thoughts:

Yes, as I said, a master regular sniper will almost always kill bow users. That's to be expected. I'm pretty sure a master regular scout will beat a FAN user too.

Theme teams are hilarious fun sometimes, especially if all talk is on. I was on a team with like 8 engineers and two pyros once. We all set up on the very final capture point (last gold rush map maybe, or badwater? it's where the first point is behind a building on a slightly raised platform, and the last point is through lots of hallways over a bridge). The other team was kinda confused as they captured the first point, and then they found ALL THE SENTRIES IN THE WORLD waiting for them. I think we won in the end, though it got tough and we might have had to bring out some more pyros eventually.

Sales. You know, the way a company like Valve makes money.
The thing is, class updates are really only relevent to people that are already playing or have stopped playing TF2. Pairing the update with the free weekend has no benefit that can only be achieved by pairing the two events.

By having them separate, they can avoid nonsense like steam servers that are too busy to handle game requests. If the update comes first, they can also iron out any issues before random people experience it for the first time and are turned off by bugs like weapons not doing the sort of damage they're supposed to, spies that think they're disguised but they're actually glowing their team color like they're ubered, and problems actually trying to run the game like the particle consistency problem many people had.

You know.. it seems like more people who use idle servers are complaining about not getting anything at all.. when playing I get an item like once every 1-2 hours. I wonder if there's an increased chance if you're actually playing?
i was playing on a idle server, not idling, for several hours and only got 2 things

:lol awesome. Yeah we had all talk on, so when we were spies we were all ":D" and they were all like "WTF where are you guys" and then we uncloak and kill like 3 of them we hear "Oh my god they're spies." :lol :lol Hahaha it was great.

I wonder if the free weekend was part of there being no trades.

After all, everyone who went on the free weekend only got new unlocks.. it's us oldbies who are raging about duplicates.

Played an hour long 2fort game. Dominated as pyro. Unlocked FaN, Dead Ringer and Flare Gun (I've had TF2 since release but never liked lame ass achievement farming shit so neve rhad these...) plus like 8 pyro achievements. 53 minutes I think was the total amount of time played on the server :lol In the past 2 days with only 5 hours playing time, I've unlocked all those listed plus Axetinguisher, ambassador and the sandvich.

Three days of ass numbing play sessions, not a single drop, not even dupes. Submitted a bug report. :|

So today I unlocked my first new weapon. It's been three tries and several hours of playtime. I got the bow, which I wasn't interested in the first place, since Sniper is the class I've put less time into. And if I had to choose between the three items, bow would be my last choice.

I'm dying to get some Spy items, as it's a class that I've been learning to play in the last month and now it's one of my faves. Too bad I like this game very much and Valve is punishing me for playing a lot. If I were like those people not interested in the game in the first place, after two days playing I'd have all achievements unlocked. Meh.

You should give it a try. Sniper was one of my least played classes but the huntsman is a completely different experience. Huntsman-Sniper and Rifle-Sniper are almost different classes.

I have a question to those spies who have used the Dead Ringer a bunch: If you backstab out of a disguise with the dead ringer, and there's a turret, does the turret trigger your Dead Ringer before the backstab finishes, or can you use it to kill an engineer and then decloak and sap the sentry?

I've only used it a little, but dead ringer only triggers if you actually have it out (which takes a second or two to flip open, and you can't stab or sap or anything while it's out). So, I'm guessing that the turret would instantly kill you. I actually tried to use it to escape a turret once, but I think the turrent instantly killed me anyway, unless the watch was only half open...

Also, I really want to try a team of 12 cloak-and-dagger spies now. I guess they'd lose really quickly, but the paranoia would be amazing. :lol

Christ on a stick, the game just will not give me a Dead Ringer and a Razorback. Of every other weapon in the game, I have multiples.

I have..
6x Sandman
4x Sandviches
4x Ubersaw
3x Cloak and Dagger
3x Jarate
3x Kritzkrieg
2x Ambassador
2x Blutsauger
2x Flare Guns
2x Huntsman
2x KGB
2x Cola
2x Natascha
2x Force of Nature
2x Axtinguisher
2x Backburner

Wait, so you can't attack when you have it out, even if you're not cloaked?

I'm going to get a target shaped spray and spray it whever I see a sniper dot blocking my way. The urge to hit a bullseye will probably cause the sniper to blow his charged shot giving me a chance to make a break for it. :lol

Make big arrows pointing at the persons head with the words "Betcha can't hit me.":lol

Dead Ringer turns you invisible, not invincible. There's a good chance the turret would kill you. However, I've never had a turret kill me before I've finished a backstab before. It's too slow for that. If you're behind the turret, you actually have enough time to backstab AND sap a sentry.

Sounds like a fair guess. Hopefully they institute it ASAP...or reintroduce Achievement unlocks as a side method.

Nope, you can't do anything. You can have the knife ready, but there's like a second delay after right clicking to pull up the watch when you want to get hit. So typically you would backstab someone and pull out the watch, then wait for someone to hit you. Alternatively, you can get set on fire, try to quickly get out of range of the flamethrower, and then pull out the watch to extinguish yourself and drop a fake corpse.

Javaman, that is the best idea I've heard in ages. I need to get a good weird/useful spray. :lol

Maybe a "Shoot here for weapon unlocks" picture.

Actually, if I have time to play tonight I want to try cloak and dagger. I need a partner spy who also has cloak and dagger, and two sprays...an eyechart that doesn't say "spy" until the very bottom in small print, and another spray that says "stand here". This would naturally be done near the spawn somewhere. If anyone is up for some cloak and dagger harassment let me know. :D

Left myself on an Idle server while I'm at work today, so hopefully I'll be able to come home to a C&D and a Dead Ringer. If that's the case, that sounds like fun. =p

Sooooo..... I have TF2 idling in the background.... feels like going back to Ultima Online
"Your skill in Dumbassery increased by +0.1"
Anyhoo, after 25 hours, I finally got 2 new weapons X_X

Will be funny when in a couple months, Valve starts handing out stuff for "point per hour".

Then they'll be getting it close to right, though I'd add the rules only on official maps, and only on servers with 12+ active players.

BTW found this out about cloak and dagger- it drains based on how much you move, not how long you move. Falling drains it fast, crouch walking you can move for up to 2-3 minutes.

OMGGGGG I just did an awesome badass thing with my new love the Huntsman.

I'm a my side of the 2fort bridge, and an ennemy scout comes out from his base trying to get through, I want to hit him but he sandmans me before I can. So I'm getting shotgunne'd a couple of times, he runs towards me to deliver the final blow, but right before he does the stun wears off and I manage to plant an arrow right through his skull. Dead scout.

So awesome. Especially since he was running at full speed when the arrow hit, so he did a glorious backflip.

So fucking satisfying.

I'm up for some Cloak and Dagger fun. Even if we can't do the sprays, let's find a lone Engineer to harass :D

Awesome I got another unlockable, my 4th Natasha!

...
Still not as good as the 14 nataschas in a row that guy on my server had.

Botolf is in! Any other cloak and dagger buddies are welcome. Does 8-9 EST sound good?

Played for a few hours today, amongst a few regular servers and an idle one, still no new weapons for me. Got some sweet achievements though. :D

I'm starting to get into my comfort zone with this game now. Sniping never gets old.

I love playing as heavy but it sucks to get multiple of his gear instead of something new :lol

Here's what I have after about 22 hours of actual playing (Got all previous 12 weapons before this update already):

Enough with the Nataschas, Kritzkriegs, Bonk drinks, Sandviches, Blutsaugers and Backburners already :(

5 PM Pacific, right? Sounds good.

I beat Capndrake to all the weapons, and I only have 42. I feel proud. :lol

I am starting to hate the system more and more now, some can find lots of items while others find little to nothing in the same time, please valve make it points based so us people who actually play get rewards too :(

I so need to get back into TF2... but there's no rush since this unlocking system seems pretty out of whack. Probably will wait for one of two things (or ideally, both) to happen:

-System is tweaked/fixed
-I get a new PC

Well hopefully I'll get all of mine in the last twenty minutes. So far I've unlocked Natascha in 6 hours of play.

Cry about it, I'm 8 hours into the update now and I still have nothing!

Not really, you need to take the order of pickups also into account. The real probability is about 0.5% - so bad luck still, but not that bad.
You're right, it's about 4x more likely than I'd thought. However, I'm still not sure how you get that number...

Could you elaborate on how to properly calcuate it?
EDIT: Oh, is it 1*1/18*1/18*1/18*1*1*1 * (7 choose 4) = 0.006?

I'll come and join. I have zero Spy experience other than watching many of the how to play videos from people like SubtleArt (to help me with Spy dominating. It's so invaluable knowing their tricks and I've only been stair-stabbed once or twice in my life time) so I'll definitely be using the Cloak and Dagger or for a slooooooow chase on the enemy team.

Just got Jarate and Dead Ringer in the last hour and a half.

The Dead Ring is awesome. I never play Spy, but I found myself creeping all the way to the opponent's spawn and just whacking engies and support classes while taking down sentries. Pretty fun way to play.

It doesn't make much difference though. The headstart on map 2 is negligible and don't both teams start out the same on the 3rd one?
No. Win the first two and winning the third is more or less assured due to the headstart. (I have yet to see the team that has to start at the very beginning winning that part of the map.)

You're wrong, both teams start at exactly the same place on map 3.

thats the worst thing about PLR, stage 3 is a total crapshoot, and it doesn't matter who won the previous 2 rounds. I can only assume you haven't seen the other team win there because the other team has generally been better, but I've seen the team utterly dominated on the first two stages score an easy win on 3 and take the match.

I'm seeing a bunch of conflicting info here so I'm not sure, but I -thought- that winning earlier maps gave your team a headstart on the final map in pipeline. Whichever way it works, I have very often (possibly even the majority of the time) seen the team that loses the first two matches win the last one.

I'm not sure why some people hate hoodoo and pipeline so much, but one thing I have noticed is that all three of them have areas with tunnels in some maps, and a stalemate very often happens there. Or in pipeline's case, you play that part of the map for like 15 minutes. :lol
