Tearaway Unfolded |OT|

Misplaced gophers are annoying. So often they appear and are immediately followed by a big scrap fight, and if you die, they disappear. They don't even respawn back where you found them, they're gone. I assume they reappear if you restart the entire chapter, but that seems unfair.

They effectivley replace the beat the level without losing your scrap trophies. Now that I'm prepared I usually just clear the level, know what's going on then go back for them. They aren't super bad, Grocer's Barn was though.

Yeah post-game cleanup is driving me INSANE.

The main arc is wonderful, protip to first time players: don't try and get everything on your first playthrough, just experience the story and do as much as you can/like. After that you can retry levels over and over to find 3 pieces of confetti or fail a gopher escort route.

Insanely frustrating and very weird that Tarsier/MM would not provide post-game collectible clean-up helping items (like a radar or whatever) or streamline stuff like restarting the entire level if you fail a gopher escort.

Played through the demo, loved it. Such a charming, uplifting experience. Reminds me a bit of the wonderful (but sadly overlooked) Puppeteer in that sense. Will most likely be buying the full game.

How is it length- and difficulty-wise though? The demo was ridiculously easy. Does it actually become challenging at some point?

Also, ugh, is this another of those games where you can't change the VO language without changing system language? The LBP games were the same way, so I guess it's not all that surprising. But damn if it isn't dumb. I prefer having my PS4 set to Swedish (not for any particular reason, I just do that with all OSes), but I don't want to play through this game with Swedish VOs. Not that they're bad per se, I just don't like it.

I was ready to buy it again after finishing the Vita game but the price is keeping me away.

I know prices suck in Europe most of the time but games like MGSV, Mad Max, and other recent releases are all available at retail stores for 55-60Euro. Every single copy of Tearaway Unfolded has been 65-75Euro. I mean, who thought it made sense to charge 74,99€ for this game?! They sent it to die. I'm a fan and I just can't justify that. It's insane. Anyone with a passing interest will see that price at a store and ignore it.

Of course, Amazon has it for less as usual, but they're destroying their casual retail purchases with high prices.

What, really? It's around 400 SEK (~42€) here in Sweden. And on the PS Store it's 369 SEK (amazing, a PS4 game that's actually cheaper digitally than at retail).

Keep trying, my brothers copy took 3 attempts to load up, kept crashing but eventually it made it.
Sad thing is the game has frozen twice on the opening level, put him back to the ps4 menu and he has had to reload.
Very strange, must be some bad copies as others on this forum haven't mentioned anything. I should also add that he had to restart the game once as some scraps got stuck in the ground when you need them to knock over some structure that 2 people are standing on,without them you cannot continue or even try again... also this was right at the start of the game and after 3 attempts to even load the game.
Might be dodgy discs or might need some serious patches, if this turns out to be another little big planet 3 situation then media molecule are finished in my mind.

Same here. It is still playable, because it does not happen often, but I am not happy with this. The hdd (I Guess) was very loud a few times.

Hmmmmm. I'll give it another go an see if I can get any further. Thanks!

EDIT: It seems to be working now! I'll blast it for a couple of hours and see if it's ok. My disc drive is going insane though which has me worried.

EDIT2: Yup disc is buggered. The game is acting up like a dodgy disc does. Like repeating sound/audio bugs and constant freezing. My disc drives was in hyperdrive trying to run it too. Deleted it and will see what Simplygames say tomorrow about getting a replacement. At least I have MGSV to be playing!

As i said, even if you do get it to load be very careful, my brothers copy crashed multiple times and like just yours the ps4 was going crazy.
I'm not sure it's wise to keep playing until we figure out if its the disc or just needs some kind of loading patch, fingers crossed though as from what i saw the image quality looked amazing and only helps to highlight the incredible art direction.

Late edit: Apparently his copy is still causing issues so he is getting a replacement, maybe best if you do the same if you still run into issues.

Apparently my brothers copy is still causing issues too so he is getting a replacement as well, given lots of people are not getting any problems i think it's safe to say theres probably just a few dodgy discs out there.

On a side note Simplygames are great and shouldn't give you any issues.

Well happy to know it's not just me...NA copy here...I guess I'll return it and see if I can get a replacement copy...

Have been trying to hold out on this. Was gonna cave and pick up a disc copy today, but with the amount I've heard about disc problems (and being removed from Amazon UK), I'm gonna have to hold back as I don't wanna deal with that if it pops up. A shame, I hope they get it sorted soon.

Hey OP PM a mod and get them to add a subtitle of your choice - game deserves it. Obviously I think my suggestions are great ;b

Item is currently under review in a number of places, seems like another little big planet 3 situation with a number of bugs/glitches but also some bad discs that don't work.Everyone is returning their copies or demanding a refund so lots places have stopped selling, huge shame but i would hold off until the developer can figure out what's gone wrong.
I'm shocked that after LBP3 they didn't make sure this release went smoothly.

What about Tearaway Unfolded |OT| The Origami Thriller.

It's my first suggestion, be gentle.

Around 6-8 hours I think, but reruns for the collecting will be necessarry. The whole game is easy. Not sure if there was an option to change the language in the game options.

I really don't get the price here. The digital version costs 40€, why the hell is the retail 65€ and more? Found a copy for 40€ at Coolshop, everywhere else in germany it is 65-70€.

I played this game on vita, and got the demo for Ps4...not really feeling it.

I think it's cute, and I hope it sells well, but it's not for me.

I platted Tearaway on the Vita and jumped on getting this Day One. Finally finished MGSV, so Unfolded was next. This game (and its predecessor) is such a delight. I love the art style, the music, and its heart so much. I was wondering if it would use the PlayStation Camera, and sure enough it does.

However, what does the game show in the You world without the Camera?

Would love a radar. Maybe something that identified a direction through the camera viewfinder so you can home in on it?

As it is, there is basically no way I'm scouring entire levels for one or two missed items, a lot of levels are very heavily decorated with grass/branches etc that things are easy to miss.

Is the tripod new to the PS4 version?

A flat white surface, and then the guy standing there tells that if you had a camera you could be doing all this cool shit.

Ok I ran through the big squirrel head and the squirrel king made me put the crown I created on my character. So where the hell do I go now? Ive been stuck here for 15 minutes.

Is that the place with all the other squirrels? Just go back, afaik that is just a sideway and not the mainpart.

Just beat it. It's fairly lengthy and more so if you want to find and collect it all.

On the whole it's a fantastic game. Full of charm and creativity. Lots of lots of great little details and fun. Some great ideas with the controller. Most worked well. Others were wonky and hit and miss. Camera also let itself down at times. Towards the end there's much more challenge in platforming. Some quite frustrating as it adds full on motion controls in some of those levels. Which wasn't the most fun unfortunately. And the button promts for platforming could also be frustrating. Almost trial and error sometime. Meaning towards the end I just didn't care to collect things. But taking those frustrations out it was a wonderful game that is worth picking up whether you bought the Vita game or not. There was certainly a lot of new to play and discover.

It's definitely one of my fave games this year and if it wasn't for some frustrations I'd have really loved it and possibly could have been my GOTY.

Those misplaced gopher quests or whatever are just irritating. I don't mind the general idea or challenge of it, but having to completely restart a chapter and go through all the bullshit that goes with it when you screw up is bad game design. It doesn't add anything to the game.
This is the most infuriating thing about the game. The Vita version didn't have these misplaced Gophers, but now they are just a gigantic pain in the butt if you die and have to redo the chapter.

So the Vita version sold like 12000 copies at launch or something hilariously bad. I'm wondering if it's even possible for this to do worse with the PS4's install base.

Man they should have done an even better job emphasizing that this is basically a new game. There's so much new shit over the Vita version it's insane. It's almost like I'm getting a sequel of my dreams.

<3 Media Molecule for this series.

People keep calling out Sony for all their remasters and lack of new exclusives. How can this game not be considered new when literally no one played it the first time around.

Really? Now I'm really considering getting it. I just wanted to replay it on a better resolution and FPS, but this sounds great.

Seriously. Even the parts where you can tell they started on the Vita contain so much new shit it's remarkable. This is the least lazy "remaster" ever. Because it's basically not a remaster, it's a remake. Or maybe the more accurate term is 'reimagining'? It's like Ratchet PS4 in that you can tell where things originated, but they also add new levels completely and all the old levels are basically new but with common themes.

All I remember from the Vita game is the location themes and the general order of events. Everything else feels new. I mean I know it's not 100% new content, but the way the old is mixed in with the new really mixes up all the content to deliver something that definitely feels new as a whole.

I do want to get this game very much because I love the Vita version and it shouldn't have sold so poorly. To those with the Unfolded version, how is the new content? Good? "Not a pity buy if you have the Vita version" good?

Haha even the mods don't care about Tearaway! (Jokes fellas - plz no ban)

I can't believe how gorgeous this game is on the big screen. I love the vita version to bits, but the arts just been given so much room to breathe here - it's actually almost overwhelming sometimes.

It's great (played on Vita). It's not just the content is new but it mostly feels redesigned to better leverage PS4 game pad.

The games looks beautiful (most attractive game this gen for me with that art style) and plays wonderfully.

Gamepad use is good and makes sense.

Definately worth the replay IMHO. For those that haven't played Vita version there's a quirky, inventive and rather lovely love letter to the experience of playing videogames here to enjoy.

Shame it's released so close to done big titles like MGSV though, that can't be helping.

It's not a pity buy but a support fun and innovation buy.

Agree. It is hard to call this game a remaster with all the New content and controls.

Now comes the 1 million dollars question : I played and enjoyed Tearaway on Vita (played it twice for the platinium I think) and I really want to jump in it again. Should I buy this new version or should I just play it on Vita again ? Are the new features/levels good enough compared to their Vita counterparts ? What is your biggest disappointment so far ? I really don't care if there isn't much new content, just need to know the quality of it (and if I replay it on Vita I won't have new content anyway).

I had this problem too. So frustrating. The one in gibbet hill hated me. I put him down and he ran straight off the edge of the level off his own accord. Tried again and reached a point in the level (after you throw the scarecrow head onto his body) where the gopher just vanished when I crossed that point. Tried it again and same thing. Rebooted and tried it a third time and it happened again. Gave up and carried on with the level. Stupid thing

I don't know where Dark lives, but here in Italy the game can easily be found at 49 euro (it's at that price at a common appliances chain as Unieuro, for example). Still, I preferred to buy it on the PS Store there it's 39.9 or something like that.

Yep, in my country, 49 euro seems to be the average retail price aswell. For once, digital was by far the cheapest option so i went with that.

Also, this debuted 33rd on the UK charts according to Eurogamer so not good at all...

I platinumed the Vita version easily enough, but for the life of me, I cannot find 5 missing pieces of confetti in Maypole Fields using the bookmark select.

Pig, plane, gopher holes, hidden area, I've checked them all. Have everything else there and am stuck at 99%.

Also, the game is really best appreciated with a PS camera.
