Well spill it then.

If they get beaten by Sony in terms of RAW sales numbers you think they aren't going to change their tune.

They already are getting beaten by Sony in terms of 'raw' numbers. Sony has already caught them in sales despite one less year and a higher price tag. The PS3 is selling faster, full stop. By the end of the year they'll have definitively passed them.

It all started with CBOAT
"One of the DRM plans is worse than you imagine. Can't get enough evidence to say more; people are scared for their jobs."

Its so much worse than you guys think....So much worse.

Good on yah CBOAT. Kept your timeframe.

I just heard some stuff from a 3rd party source but CBOAT hasn't corroborated it. I am asking him first.

I've only heard this from one person but think about if MS merged the concept of PS+ with XBLG and applied it to your games

System is off set with cheaper prices and anytime you re-sub you get your library back plus DLC incentives to bring you back.

I HAVE TO REITERATE I ONLY HAVE THIS FROM ONE PERSON.

I'm thinking it'll be something like this. Gold members can play offline for 24 hours and give games without a fee (once), everyone else has to be online all the time / online when they start any game and there's some fee for used games. There's something in the implementation, like how often and when it pings the servers, they've purposely left out.

Pay for online, so you can play offline.
That would just be the saddest thing.

Wait.

So you buy the console.

Then you buy your games and they're tied to your account, without the ability to lend, privately sell etc.

And then you need to perpetually subscribe to Live Gold in order to maintain access to those games that you already bought?

Is this real life?

EDIT: Saying they merged PS+ into it is frankly an insult to PS+.

I'm hoping that the boiling frog experiment reflects what really happens there, that in the end we really DO see it as being "too hot" and are jumping out.

But given what Microsoft was rumored to do and announced THAT analogy probably works better, and holds truer. Even I have to admit that if it was just straight up neither would allow used games but allowed full offline play, binding to an account if you had an internet connection, etc... I would've refused if that was the starting point, or at least grudgingly accepted it later in a generation if it gained traction and wouldn't be shaken off. But now Microsoft's come in with all this dialing home, possibly "always online ANYWAY for the cloud" crap I actually AM more receptive to the former, though I don't see Microsoft doing it at this point. They want to ride the cloud for all its worth, whereas Sony may yet still be reasonable even if implementing DRM.

Indeed. Hopefully we either jump out, or we don't fall for the bullshit.

First Crazy Buttocks comments that it's much worse than we currently believe, and then this. I...I'm going to hope that that person is false. That is just too crazy for me to believe without an official confirmation.

EDIT: Also, thank you once more to Crazy Buttocks for continuing to provide information. One must assume you're taking substantial risk (despite trying to minimise it via your posting style) by continuing to post and it is definitely appreciated.

EDIT 2: Oh and also, it's interesting to see that the rumours (?) about Microsoft buying E3 exclusivity for multiplatform games appears to be true. It'll certainly make me much more skeptical when viewing their conference.

I don't really believe, I don't WANT to believe!, all this Live Gold bullshit, but then again a couple of months ago I didn't believe all the other DRM-related stuff, even when one of my friends working for major publisher tried to convince me. Crazy times, cyberpunk future is upon us.

You're forgetting what forum this is. There WILL be people defending it.

I don't think anyone can earnestly defend this. Apathetic , perhaps, but defending outright is impossible. This from the consumer side of this discussion is absolutely indefensible.

If this actually happens, we might as well change the name of the forum from Neogaf to "Fuck you, Microsoft" because that's the only threads you'll find here.

I think the noteworthy issue isn't that these buttlords are really off the deep end (if it is true), it is that they have done such a great job on deconstructing their brand name in the last few weeks that most gamers are willing to accept this rumour as likely on account that it sounds like something they would do. That it makes "sense" for them completely fuck over their customers for a nickle.

Holy effing carp. Years and years of effort, egregious amounts of money and resources, careful community management - and now ... this. All that goodwill down the drain. Amazing.
This rumor also makes a ton of sense when you factor in Thurrott going on record that offering a subsidized SKU was scrapped. Pachter has been crowing on for years that Microsoft would have a cheap system bundled with Comcast or Sky and then those initiatives just vanish into vapor.

So now, instead of giving people the option of getting a subsidized system they've decided to make EVERY Xbox One a subsidized console. Which means that even if they get off to a bad start at launch, they'll just drop the price to $199 and hope to cannibalize the market despite all of the DRM baggage that goes along for the ride. They even came up with an ingenious way to implement it so they don't need to deal with any of that nasty credit check nonsense.

But didn't we get the astroturfers?
Haven't you seen all of the people that will gladly bend over to corporations on here? They're not even marketers, they're consumers that would gladly accept this.

Admittedly if the offset prices are 1. optional, and 2. Steam level then... well, I can see WHY someone may feel it's worth it, though I'd just want to stick with Steam because screw subscriptions to keep non-MMO games I paid for playable.

If all these latest reports are true, and that there still are some people interested in Xbox one,

Do they like being used and abused?

I will never support MS again, they can take their Anti consumer stuff and fuck off.

Jesus Christ, Microsoft may be a legit super villain.

Seriously, this is some Lex Luthor-style stuff.

If this were true, I would go 100% behind my theory that the next-next-gen we'll see a Sony/Nintendo team console.

Wait. I haven't been following this thread, but the latest rumour is that your ENTIRE games library is locked behind a paywall? Wtf?

This is some serious evil mastermind bullshit there.

It's just like ps+ and steam, and everyone loves ps+ and steam, it's the future, stop complaining.

Said NOONE ever (except for all the shills and astroturfers)

This.. might be a the craziest fall in the history of gaming.

Imagine... this DRM crap is true.. BUT the console and games for it are cheaper... I would say that to the masses the ONLY thing that matters is cost. Many general users really have no idea what DRM is in the console world.

What are the chances MS talks about price or this exact DRM issue today or this week?

So wait the games will be cheaper on Xbone?

How are third parties going to be down with that?

I think the digital versions will be cheaper, like Sony does with PS+, and that the console itself will be cheaper.

Difference is that when you buy a PS+ game, it's yours even when your sub runs out. It's only free games that expire.

Even as a Sony fan I'm sitting here thinking that's gotta be optional. Besides, ownership is such a shady proposition with the Xbox anyway that I don't see people having a big problem with that. People who are okay with owning the system and paying for Live already will probably be happy to get some discounts on their games.

I mean, it can't possibly be mandatory, right? Retail games would still be full-priced, unless MS was mandating Gold for all Xbox One owners...

Which would kinda imply that the rumor that the subsidized system was dropped was wrong, and the subsidized system is the only one available. Which would be hilarious, and explain why MS feels they can get away with the BS they're pushing.
