TEKKEN 7 Graphics Upgraded: Say Ahoy! to Next-Gen Graphics (Shaheen gameplay inside)

There is a saying the middle Eastern people like to say which is ( امسح في وجهك الارض ) which means I will clean the floor with your face, shaheen has that move lol. Was hadara in the middle east recently ? Lol

Now if only the customization options would look decent instead of those tacked on silly looking random items

Hope you're joking. The item moves mean jack shit for competitive play.

I'm sorry you're 100% wrong here. The butterfly wings mask the hands making throw breaking magnitudes harder. Same thing with Miguel's console cape.

The paper fan with Jin also gives him a combo off his homing move.

And let's not forget Jack:

What I saw and played at JAEPO yesterday looked pretty damn sick. Much better than the test location build. The stages are EASILY the best in the series (and IMO the best looking in 3D fighting games today) and Shaheen's playstyle was much more mobile and acrobatic than I thought it would be.

Chloe however was about as annoying as I had imagined she'd be :p.

Gonna have me some REAL fun come the 18th :D

Thanks for the impressions. :)

If customizations looked like they belonged, then not having 2P costumes would be fine with me.

We should definitely know by March if not by Feb. 18 how "far" they're going with customizations. I hope really far. Because I don't need a beautiful game ruined with tacked on terrible customs.

Bears, Pandas, Dinosaurs, Kangaroos, Robots, and Training Dummies. But a girl with a jacket that has cat paws is what breaks the camel's back for you? Just stop.

The bears legitimately claw you, the Kanagroo/Dinosaur legitamitely pounce on you, the Robots have legitimate brute force attacks on the adversaries. At least those characters are doing some kind of attack.

Lucky Chloe is love tapping you with her fur paws. Yeah, that is dumb and doesn't belong.

I won't mind paying for costumes/customization items. But going crazy like some other companies with character DLC is where I draw the line.

Also, gamers are to blame with all of these trends. Ass Creed Unity was apparently littered with microtransactions and the game shipped like 10 million copies (combined with Assassin's Creed rogue). Stop buying shit and you won't get shit. Anyone buying these type of games loses their right to complain when companies support even more worse and worse shit.

Not defending Unity but people continue to buy assassins creed games in droves year in and year out because each game is very different from the last. Gameplay is largely the same(even though unity had the biggest change) but gameplay scenarios, settings, characters, story, etc is always different.

A game like Tekken which has largely stayed the same since T5 and is not even an annual release, begins to start cutting things out for microtransaction purposes, people will begin to complain undoubtedly.

The art style has stayed the same since Tekken 5, true. But the gameplay has evolved tremendously up to Tekken Tag 2.

The thing I have with the gameplay is that no new advanced techniques or special movements or new ways to approach fights have been developed in ten years. Its hard to explain, but from Tekken 5 to T7, the biggest change had to be bound and wall shenanigans. Virtua fighter added Offensive Sidestep and Street Fighter IV added a whole slew of new techniques such as Focus. MK is an outlier and literally changes everything with every entry, from fighting stances, to adding meter, to meter burned moves, etc.

I think the changes in Virtua fighter, Street Fighter and MK completely change the metagame at a fundamental level while still making it feel like it belongs in the series without it being an entirely new game. In essence, it feels "fresh".

So yes, I agree that the gameplay has evolved, but not necessarily tremendously(i would use that adjective to describe T2 to T3 and T3 to T4), and I think a lot of older players(such as myself) are starting to feel fatigue and newer players don't want to join in because their is so much legacy gameplay that its off putting. I mean, something as updating/advancing okizeme options would be the biggest gameplay change in a decade. So now add in microtransactions, and it's kind of like the straw that breaks the camels back. I'm very curious to see what the total console package will look like though. Atleast the upgrade in graphical fidelity makes it look like it belongs in 2015 and animations have always been top notch.

This looks wonderful graphically but why hasn't the animation system been updated? Would it change the gameplay too much to have more fluid transitions?

The former all look like they could and would fight. Lucky Chloe looks like all she wants to do is dance, and in a sense, that is all she's doing. I'm not against wacky characters in fighters. Kuma is one of my favorites, and Roger Jr. isn't far down the line. But they all look capable of fighting in some capacity. AAK mentioned that Lucky Chloe's jacket would prevent her from so much as closing a fist. Things like that and her overall attitude make her seem out of place.

edit: oh, looks like he already covered all of this. Whoops.

That stage is actually the best looking stage in the game. The lighting and the dust are amazing.

It does look great, but the Dragon's Nest Tekken 5 Redux stage also looked amazing. The rain pounding against the ground looked remarkably good.

And the west was acting stupid. So there you go! lol

There were plenty of comments from Japanese players at the time that held the same or similar complaints. But I suppose those people were just afflicted by western tastes.

Well, Tekken has been more about refining and perfecting what's already there (since the gameplay failure of Tekken 4 anyway). And if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

With that being said, Tekken Tag 2 is definitely a "tremendous" update to gameplay in my opinion. The option for tag assault alone greatly changes the dynamics of the fight and the added metagame from netsu management/tag crashes is really great. Also from my personal standpoint, TTT2 is the deepest fighting game in the market right now and I mean "the deepest." It is the result of constant gradual evolution, toning, and refining of the the gameplay system to get an end result that is beyond amazing.

While you mention Mortal Kombat has more drastically faced changes, how long did it take before the series could see some stability? It failed in its 3D venturing (from what I read/hear) and went back to 2D and just now recently is finally establishing itself as a more legitimate competitive fighter. This is again, from what I've been reading about the series since I haven't actually played mostly any Mortal Kombat game.

If Tekken had also taken vast steps to alter everything with each iteration, I don't know what would have happened with Tekken Tag 2 or how it would have turned out. And I'd rather have Tekken Tag 2 the way it is right now, a very strategically balanced and well-made game.

That really sucks if true, but then again, why have 2P outfits when they can sell them to you via DLC later for money? Hope the customization is good.

Game is looking better visually though. It would be nice if they released the home version in the West first since arcades are essentially dead and bring it out later on consoles in Japan after the game gets old in the arcades. Imo, it would also keep momentum going for the game if it still hot in the arcades. Oh well, what can you do?

That does look great as well. I just want direct feed footage right now.

There's also a lava stage and we haven't really seen that yet.

Wow lol

I'm sorry, I must have missed all the huge impact it's been having on the competitive scene and the heated debate over whether they should be banned because it's making characters so unbalanced. Just like how the banned using dark colors in the Stalking Wolves stage in DR right?

This thread is the most conversation I've seen about items moves being a detrimental to competitive play since before they were released and nobody had a clue what they would do.

You are obviously not a competitive player since everything Sayah said went in one ear & out the other. Every asain tournament from MasteraCup to Tekken Crash allows for customs.

I'll keep that in mind next time I'm running the streaming and competing at Shadowloo Showdown thanks.

I'm surprised at how many didn't seem to know that there weren't going to be any 2P outfits.

And it's a shame that we aren't going to get any.

I doubt that. I'm pretty sure the customization feature will not be fully complete at AC release and they'll be adding more stuff over time.
Then for console release they could rework the whole customization feature for all we know.
So don't be surprised if you won't be seeing anything major in that regard when the game releases in AC.

Also, nothing has been confirmed regarding 2P costumes, it's just AAK derailing threads :-P
And even if they aren't there initially and/or won't be implemented during its Arcade run, console release will have plenty of new stuff added, 2P (3P, 4P...) costumes might be part of that, DLC or not.

Can we just go back to admiring the graphical fidelity? It deserves all the praise it's getting.

Looks awesome.
Off topic: What is happening with VF series in the arcades in Japan, still going strong?

To be honest it doesn't seem like it. People are definitely still playing the game but I believe their dedication is wavering more than anything. VF5 has been in the arcades for a VERY long time so the VF community wants VF6. To be exact: VF5 - 2006, VF5R - 2008, VF5 Final Showdown - 2010. That's nearly 9 years of VF5 so the community is tired... Very tired. If VF was duked out properly then we should be wait for VF7 this year but we barely know if VF6 exist!

I may go to Club Sega in Aikihabara and Ikebukuro next week. If I go then I'll let you know what I think.

Yeah, I absolutely see alternate costumes being in the console versions along with great character customization.

Lucky Chloe almost looks like she was made to make fun of the type of individual who buys games based on "waifus". That's how overdone her design is, lol.

Game looks amazing otherwise.

I'm about to just main Lucky Chloe just to troll people who think she doesn't belong in a game series with a midget dinosaur, an old scientist with a bad back, a disco dancer, and all the other foolishness that's appeared in this series. Sorry, but trying to validate training dummies and kangaroos by saying they have a will to fight and look like they could fight was just a chuckling head shaker.

I hope their next move is to add aliens to the game.

sad. so sad!

hopefully T7 will give Sega a good kick up the ass!

Shaheen looks amazing.

This is getting out of control though. They need to announce my girl Nina Williams already or this will be the first Tekken that I will skip >:{

I'm sorry I was just responding to your statement here:

Hope you're joking. The item moves mean jack shit for competitive play.

Which I'll say again is factually incorrect. You never said anything about lengthy debates and such... BUT if you really want to go there:

- Watch the Global Championship commentary. The commentators were constantly talking about AK's customizations and choice for going to the China stage each time masking the things his Paul and Law were doing.

- Watch the recent MasterCup stream archive. MarkMan on commentary talked about multiple times how everyone was equipping the Butterfly wings to make it harder for their opponents to break throws

- Watch last year's EVO. When Bronson was on commentary he also mentioned Ao's and Fab's decisions to go with Miguel's cape custom outfit to mask the throws.

- Watch SCR 2013 where Aris gave Rip (who was running the tournament) a lot of shit for allowing Alisa's custom Rocket customization item move.

All that useless debate and commentary aside, you said "They don't mean Jackshit" and you're wrong about that. Tournament proceeds show that. And I liked how you completely ignored the Jack Item move being used in a Tekken God death-match: arguably the most competitive atmosphere the game can be in.

LC doesn't even really fight so much as flap her cat paws around, so from that perspective yeah, she doesn't belong in a fighting game which has always been praised for its heavy-hitting attacks. Ultimately she's a generic, forgettable design with really annoying voice acting, but I'm not sure she's going to inspire the rage-quits that you're hoping for; I think people have already been fairly desensitized to kawaii in Tekken at this point.

I hope their next move is to add aliens to the game.

What, a space ninja isn't good enough for you?

Hmm. You you must be watching what other have not about Chloe. She looks very capo mixed with maybe Lili. Generic? Hardly. You should go check out DOA5's Honoka for pure awesome generic.
