TERA News, Information, & Beta Thread

Chris Hager confirmed a couple of NA localization changes that have been mentioned in past interviews.

Player Shops (Pets)
We removed private stores from TERA so we could make the broker system the central hub of the player economy. We’ve increased the limit of items that can be sold from 8 to 50 and think this will help players to go to one place to find whatever they need.

Boxes of Mischief
I personally have a negative winning streak with these, and overall we felt that it was a chance based system that frustrated more players than it benefited. We removed them and used the space in the loot drop tables to chances for other cool things to drop.

BOP (Bind on Pickup) Items
For some items, we’ve implemented a BoP system which lets us give better equipment to players without having to worry as much about RMT farming items.

Woah woah woah. They removed player stores? What the fuck? Aren't they still in the beta? I don't like that at all.

Don't really care about the Pandora's Box stuff, made no sense to ever use them.

BoP was already in the game, not sure how they "implemented" it. Guess we'll see if it's different than the Korean system.

A lot of people complained about the player stores on the official forums. I still don't know why. I guess player stores are too Korean or something. /roll eyes

The protracted closed beta period is essential because they are creating a PvP rule set from scratch. So far PvP has been pretty dismal except in zerg vs. zerg battles so there's no doubt it needs a lot of work before launch.

They already bumped the limit (for AH items) to 50 in Korea.. so it's not like they did it for the Us market..

I won't shed a tear over the loss of boxes of mischief..

Maybe they're making all dungeon boss dropped items of a certain tier or higher BoP.. like blue and gold items are all BoP if they drop in a dungeon.. hopefully they'll leave world drops alone.. but they may not if they're worried about RMT..

It's too much of a pain to check every store in an area and it's just taking up space in an area. If they're gone now, then maybe that will mean less lag in cities.

Yeah, frankly player stores were just a huge waste of space, from what I saw. They cluttered the city unnecessarily. I would be fine with that stuff if it were confined to a specific place, but just having legions of dolls with offensive messages written on them was awful.

There's a setting in the options to turn them off if you don't want to see them.. people who hate them can check that and never see them.. people that want them could use them.. I don't see how they were really a problem.

edit -

Nevermind.. I could have sworn there was one.. but I can't find it.. perhaps I was reading someone's wishlist..

Though, that means you have to deny a part of the market, which equals in a handicap for the player.

Western Tera is a gathering up everything, which I'm fine with. Though I might miss those pets outside of the main city.

Other than dyes and crystals, I haven't really spent my money in the game. Is there anything I should have been buying or looking for in the player shops/auction?

For anyone following this thread that doesn't see vaelic's thread:

TERA CBT4 Keys (NA): http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/get-your-free-tera-beta-keys-here/

NOTICE: Any characters created using previous free beta keys will be unavailable unless you pre-ordered. Activating this key will mean a fresh start for people that participated in previous betas without pre-ordering; maintaining your character through all closed beta tests is a pre-order only perk.

Got a beta 4 key. I think this time I'll stick with a Mystic until I get to heal an instance, I want to try it.

(I burned out on WoW style healing back in Burning Crusade.)

Chris Hager attempts to clarify the BOP change:

Chris Hager said:
The highest end gear for instances will be BoE. These are the rare drops that players will be able to get from boss mobs. The next tier of gear below that will have BoP (this is gear with a higher drop rate).

The overall idea behind BoP and BoE is to have an open economy that allows players to buy and sell gear without risking have a lot of inflation (limiting some items). As with all of our features we'll be monitoring this closely and have the ability to adjust this as needed.

So I decided to go for pre-order mini pack to try out the beta and get a sense for how the game is (in a lag-free enviroment). While I probably will be focusing on Guild Wars 2, I am not above giving a game its fair chance to impress me and I thought the korean version was pretty interesting, if not a little unplayable.

Do I need to sign-up on the guild webpage to join?

Tera in convenient e-book form for reading on the crapper:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JZ7IRC/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Anyone check it out? 99 cents worth of quality?

I'll never understand why there are sold books of stuff like this. Is this an NPC in the game we can meet/do stuff with?

Storytelling is TERA's weakpoint right now. I have no real clue what's going on and have been given little reason to read/care, might as well have been playing KOR version.

this is so weird..

Tee hee...

Not sure which one of you guys found that and is now posting it to 4chan. But yeah, the player shop spam was pretty terrible in K-Tera, I didn't particularly care one way or the other about them but now I hear that Bluehole is removing them from K-Tera as well because well just look at that shit. Even the Koreans are tired of it at this point. LOL.

Our character names were awesome in K-Tera.

I don't know if we're going to officially have a GAF guild anymore now, but I still encourage people to sign up so we can find each other during launch.

Allright, not sure if I will be playing during launch. Mostly curious if GAF have a European guild on one of the EU servers?

I heard everyone hates Frogster and their servers. I'm surprised Bluehole didn't create a European subsidiary company too like they did with EME in NA.
Probably not worth the resources. I can't really blame them, most of their business is likely going to be in NA. EU is not much more than a cash grab.

If EU isn't worth it profitability wise. Isn't that basically admitting that the game will do really average?

Yes, is there a problem with that? It's a Korean MMO, it's doomed to do decent at best. I see nothing wrong with being honest about it. It will likely settle 100-200 thousand subscribers tops. It will be profitable for EME and Bluehole, but it won't be some huge runaway hit. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. An MMO doesn't need WoW numbers in order to be successful, not by a long shot (well, unless you're ToR - TERA's budget was less than a tenth of ToR's, so I doubt that will be an issue).

Considering the budget I honestly thought they where going to aim higher.

Eu player here and I'm still going to sub to it. Should be a fairly decent game to play over the summer. Enjoyed the betas so far, being a priest in this game is actually very entertaining.

Its chief problem here is that Diablo 3 comes out the same month, which I think will effectively dominate the time of core mmo-minded players. I can't log into any MMO game (ST/SW/WoW/Tera/Aion) without talking of D3 (or GW2) popping on regularly.

Yeah, was thinking of going the Diabo3 -> GW2 route myself. Then again if my core group of friends are going to play Tera, I'll happily play it as well.

So only weekend beta tests? Why do most MMOs do that, besides Blizzard and Bioware?

To increase the level cap a tiny bit at a time and get a better understanding of player data and such. Instead of it just being there and having a few jump straight to the top.

I hadn't much time to play the EU CBT 3 this weekend but I figured I would ask: Is the interest rapidly fading in the EU or did Frogster simply upgrade the servers? Because there was no dance party at the end and I never were in a server queue unlike the two times before which seemed slightly odd to me.

People have no taste, I'd go male Popori all day and all night long.

I regret to inform you that Elin is the Master Race, with Castanic as their Servant Race. There are no other races in Tera.

I don't know why it's surprising that hardly anyone chooses Baraka.

Not a lot of people chose Galka/Roegadyn in FFXI/XIV. Mithra/Mi'qote are also very popular in those games. I'm not pretending at all that this might be coincidental, because it's not.

I played a Baraka Warrior last NA test for laughs, and while it was amusing I found it kind of annoying. The huge reach of your swords doesn't quite match up to the hitbox and I found it somewhat harder to judge distance compared to my Aman warrior.

I did a great job of drawing fire in PVP though, once the proper dyes were applied to my armor.

Slightly coincidental. If there's no statistical benefit to picking a race then people are more likely to pick the races that are anatomically close to humans.

I think we need to all create Baraka Archers for the last CBT.

I've been playing on both NA and EU servers. And, probably, like most others, I will play on NA at retail. EU guys seem a bit hapless.

Enjoyed last EU cbt, gave the priest a go, and it's a very interesting class. Heal specialist. I dig it.
