In an alternate universe, the entire world has been taken over by Soviet Russia. Those who express any opposition to the government are arrested and sentenced to death. Their death comes at the hands of an ancient form of execution, known as Tetris.

The convicted are chained to the ground inside of a large rectangular frame, where soldiers are positioned at the top. These soldiers throw tetrominos down the frame, stacking them around the convicted. When a solid line is formed, it disappears, along with any body parts that were left in the line. This continues until nothing is left of the convicted.

I don't see this working out for them unless they have something unexpected and phenomenal planned.

My expectations are low.

My bad, I guess. I've never heard good things about it so I assumed it was like most video game adaptations.

It's very much a B-movie which manages to remain Cool(tm). The soundtrack helps.

Still wouldn't buy a blu-ray for the collection though.

Does someone over there think that Tetris is Space Invaders? - 'Sci-fi epic.'

'Which franchise did we get, Jim?' 'The one with the falling things.' 'Space Invaders?' 'Yeah, that's it.'

They'd better cast Mr. ㅜ

And Ice Cube as the cube piece.

The Russians can be the enemy in the movie.

Yes, actually. Mortal Kombat the movie was great, and is still the best video game adaptation by a long shot.

Things are in a pretty sad state when the Mortal Kombat the movie is still one of the best live action game to movie adaptions 19 years after its release. Don't get me wrong, the Mortal Kombat movie was amusing for what it was and it actually did stay pretty faithful to the source material. But, it is by no means a work of art.

The fact that live action video game movie adaptions are still stuck in the same state they have been for 20 years is just... kind of depressing.

They could have made it a horror film where humans are being used to construct walls and other structures. Where I'm from, there's actually an urban legend where people are sacrificed and their blood is spilled on the construction site because of an old superstition.

The first is the best video game movie ever made (which isn't saying much but whatever). The second is... not.

I'll say this about MK: The movie: Its the only video game movie I've seen that is enjoyable without being familiar with the source material (and if you are familiar with it, it's even better because it follows it so closely). MK has a great story - it was co-created by a comic book artist and author - and it provided good source for a film adaptation. It's legitimately an enjoyable kung fu movie. Not art house shit, of course, but about as enjoyable as any bruce lee flick.

I found to be pretty good to be honest, stays close enough to the plot if the first 2 games and had.fun characterization.

The developers liked it enough to retcon some things into the games, like Kano being Australian, Cage and Sonya being a thing, and Goro & Cage little references in some games like Shaolin Monks and Armageddon.
