TF2 Engineer update incoming?

Valve is picking winners. Then they're going to give the winning items stats and abilities, then they're going to release new class packs (or maybe just single items) into the game.

I love trolling as Pyro by killing minisentries with Flareguns XD

That, and Engie won't last defending his lv1 sentries/minisentries with a strafing Pyro.

Mini sentries are just fucking useless. Engineering really hasn't changed for me much. I'm still the most useful with a lvl 3 sentry in a bitch place, dispenser next to me as I repair, and a full teleporter up close by. I held the bridge on double cross alone for about 10minutes. Pity the rest of the engineers had their head up their ass and never came over to build also. Eventually a soldier got to my blind spot and I lost my baby. Other team than proceeded to build up on it =[

Oh god, we got pinned down at Hoodoo badly by 3 level 3s all in one spot. Then the other team mopped the floor with us at the round change.

Then almost everyone left, and the few of us left got stuck with random asses. I am still pissed our teams Medic would not heal anyone saying he was a battle Medic.

Are they building on the top of the bridge or the enemy balcony? And if they could do it before, it would have been really really hard. If a team lets enemy engineers set up with level 3 sentries and then move stuff in, it seems like it'd be imbalanced anyway.

I got the achievement for 1000 kills and still haven't gotten backstabbed 50 times (sitting at 41). Only time I've equipped that is for the achievement for killing the spy who tried to backstab your razorback.
 
i want valve to add this to the gunslinger:

faster running when you're running around with your pre-made mini-sentry:

it's a mini-sentry for christ sakes, you'd think it'd make sense the engy could run a bit faster than a regular sentry

mini-dispensers, mini-teles:

AKA faster deploying stuff at level 1 only


The way I play my gunslinger engy is just too offensive to do much besides lay down a dispenser for fellow engies at specific points and the lone tele here and there. i think it would benefit the gunslinger's supporter role by throwing down quick healing at a faster pace

Yeah pretty much. I haven't tried it but it looks like they jump and then use the Wrangler to launch themselves.

No, Battle Medic is someone who pulls out the Ubersaw and goes on a rampage looking for delicious BRAAAAINS. He may also make his teammates rate by not healing them.

This actually broke some custom maps hard, since engies (and by proxy snipers) can now climb onto areas only soldiers and demos were supposed to reach.

Just had a couple of really awesome games on Badwater.

I gotta say, while I dont play as engee I really dont think their equipment is unbalanced. In fact, I'd say the pack doesn't really change the engee much at all, but does give players the impression that they dont need to base camp. I see engees moving around a lot more, and controlling the turrets gets used a lot.

I even saw a lot of the mini-sentries. I think people miss the point of them; they're not supposed to be a heavy weapon, but moreso a brief support weapon. When things are tight a well placed mini-sentry can give your team a bit of a push. You just have to make sure you dont try and use them as an offensive or base guarding turret like the others, as they're useless once someone gets a lock on them (took out tons with my pyro just straffing around them).

Its not 1, there are 3 models taunting!

But yeah, I just can't shake the feeling for some reason. Its also has a bit of a "If they have the resources for these extra models, why can't I do more then 32 players online!" feeling, though I am sure that has to do with server capabilities and such.

And yeah, the Mini Sentries can be useful if used right. Need to capture the point in King of the Hill? Plop one down in a connecting hallway, should slow down reinforcements.

Err, 32 isn´t even valve´s work. The community did that. Also, gameplay would be a mess.
 
32 is already too many for TF2.

I gotta side with MNC here, man. They probably aren't even bots, in all likelihood they're just dynamic props running a random animation on a timer. Not expensive at all.

I thought the 32 player was valve's work, I am pretty sure I have seen console commands to increase the max players allowed. I always thought that was more for balance issue if anything, though it could also be anything higher then 24 is just unstable. Though since I am no expert on it, I am just going to drop this.

Oh don't worry, we (I) am/are no experts on the whole engine and characters either, but I have a suspicion those models hardly hog up resources. Also, I do know with the way the source engine works, those models don't get loaded up until you can actually see them. If you're halfway at the rails of the map, they're not visible and not loaded. It's the way valve optimizes maps.

IIRC 32-man servers rely on an edited DLL. It works fine, but the game isn't remotely balanced around that high of a cap.

Quite the opposite for me. I also hate instaspawn. Sadly all of my friends play on instaspawn 24+ player servers. So playing TF2 with my friends is quite a torture, but what can you do.
 
I prefer 24 player servers with spawn times around 5 seconds. 32 players is way too hectic on most maps. Not a fan of instant spawn at all.
 
24 - 26 limit with 10 - 15 seconds spawn time is the sweet spot for me.

Especially if its Badwater :{D.

The attackers always have lower respawn times though which helps balance the map once the battle moves far from their spawn. That's one reason 0 spawn times break the game, it unfairly disadvantages the blue team.
 
34 lotus server for life!

32 2fort can be real good fun and an extreme challenge to break down good defences especially after this engineer update.

oh stallion, so nub. 6v6 is where it's at. Let's get some teamwork up in this bitch.

24 man servers can be pretty fun, too. After playing for so long on 32mans I really don't like them too much anymore. All the spam makes me rage D:
