Ok. I'm not an expert but there's no a clean winner in this.

In a soccer match Thanos will win because is more flexible than Darkseid. On the other side in a Top Chef contest Darkseid will win because the Infinity Gauntlet is not comfortable to use when you are cooking.

So, the real question is this: Can Thanos cook better than Darkseid without using the Infinity Gauntlet? Imho i prefer a dinner by Darkseid and playing sports with my buddy Thanos.

And yet, Solaris owned every superman in existence mercilessly and killed them by the dozens over hundreds of centuries- and was taken out and killed not by a superman, or any powerset of superman prime, but by a lantern ring.

Actually it was a combination of a Green Lantern Ring, solidified by Superman 1,000,000, and then finished off by a Green Lantern Ring controlled by Superman Prime.

It's got a monthly comic at the moment but it's not very good. Instead of rebooting stuff from scratch and starting over with his origin they something in between which makes things pretty confusing

Dakseid is a pimp and would win no sweat. I recently acquired a Darkseid action figure and in doing so was able to create physical proof that Darksied loves couches,coloring with crayons and denying loans to Superman. I have no Thanos figures, so I can provide no proof of his love of furniture.

It's Canon to the He-man comic at least since they specifically mention events that took place during that mini-series during the ongoing monthly series.

Not sure if it's fully cannon to the rest of the new 52 verse since none of those books have referenced it yet

The reason he can punk Superman so well is because Superman is vulnerable to magic which happens to be He-man's power source.

Thanos is a mutant Eternal who's amped himself up with a combo of magic and technology and then was further buffed by Death when she brought him back to life after his first death.

Darkseid was a normal alien dude who tricked his planets gods into fighting each other then killed them well they where weak and took their power to become a new god.

Metron has a superior chair than Darkseid. He can take him out no problem (next to Highfather he is probably the most powerful of the New Gods). He can manipulate time and space, something Darkseid just can't do.

even before that, Darkseid was killed by the Atom waaaaaay back during the JLA "rock of ages" storyline.

Not that Darkseid can actually be killed, but Schweinehund was totally down playing Darkseid being shot. The bullet wasn't an ordinary one, it was designed specifically to kill gods. It's not like he was caught by a stray round in a drive-by.

In 'Rock of Ages', he is (kind of) killed by a bullet that's made of a God

Whatever powers Thanos has he will lose against Darkseid because he wiil want to... or he'll drop something important like the clumsy fat fingered git he is.

Infinity Gauntlet only works on its own universe, and Darkseid is from a different universe, so since we're not only talking about Darkseid but even Darkseid at his highest potential power, Thanos is getting WHOOPED in this.

Starlin has admitted the character is influenced by Jack Kirby's Darkseid:

“ Kirby had done the New Gods, which I thought was terrific. He was over at DC at the time. I came up with some things that were inspired by that. You'd think that Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, but that was not the case when I showed up. In my first Thanos drawings, if he looked like anybody, it was Metron. I had all these different gods and things I wanted to do, which became Thanos and the Titans. Roy took one look at the guy in the Metron-like chair and said : "Beef him up! Origin of comic characters are rpetty interesting. Like how Storm and Nightcrawler was almost DC characters in Legion of Superheroes, Wolverine was suppose to be an actual mutant Wolverine, and Mr Sinster was suppose to be a 9 year old orphan that stayed at the same orphanage Cyclops lived at.

See I don't find that interesting at all. Thanos doesn't care if he is feared or goes out just to scare folks. He has personal goals that he sets out to accomplish, just so happens sometimes the goals involve putting the universe in danger. He has more depth than Darkseid.

That's cool, I didn't know any of that. Especially surprised by the Nightcrawler/Storm revelation. Thinking about it, they seem like quite a good fit for DC. More obscure facts, please!

Outside of Kirby's original stuff, I guess it's only since around Final Crisis that he's been treated properly as a God rather than a high-end Meta, but Darkseid as the embodiment of an abstract concept like Evil is a really interesting one to me. It kind of sums up what I like about comics: how well they can explore and how effectively they can show really, really mental ideas, often way above and beyond what a film or a novel could (mostly due to budget as well as their individual limitations. Like that Alan Moore Captain Britain stuff you posted in the Marvel/DC vs. Dragonball Z thread, I don't think a film or a novel could capture nearly as effectively.

I understand where you're coming from but Darkseid still retains an abstract sort of mystery I just prefer in my nigh-omnipotent evil gods. The threat of Thanos, for me, has been lessened over the years just due to overexposure. This isn't really a bad thing; like you said, it's given him more depth as a result, but I wouldn't mind Marvel giving him some time off, maybe let him lay low behind the scenes for a bit.

Yes, Thor is usually not on the level of PC superman. Drastically weaker. The power gem is an exception to that though- and he only had it for one short arc in which he fought Thanos.

Technically, ANYONE with the power gem could start throwing moons like baseballs if they chose to. It's a part of the infinity gauntlet, and arguably the most powerful part.

I would say the reality gem is the strongest individual gem. But as part as a whole the power gem may be the most important one.

Yup. The way he was introduced in degrees was brilliant - being introduced by Kanto(Shame we didn't see more of him) to Mannheim and the audience in "Tools of the Trade", being namelessly introduced to Superman by his sheer power in "Fathers Day", and finally the history of the new gods and his purpose on earth being reveled in the sublime ""Apokolips...Now!".

They were smart to keep his apperances to a minimum, as it would have looked a bit convoluted for superman to win without properly beating him so many times. As it was, every time he appeared was an event, and Superman only ended up having a "true" victory once, in "Twilight", and even that wasn't down to his strength.
