Broken version? 2012 Serena is the best Serena since 2002.

I meant her consistency in the match was horrid considering she's been holding it up for a long time since her loss in Roland Garros, she's obviously still weak in that part of her game but she's not alone clearly

This match was a masterclass in how to turn it up to a Champion Level when the chips are down.

Serena won, but Azarenka forced her to put every last ounce of focus into every single point to pull out that victory.

Great game. It was good to see Serena play smart tennis for a change; it's easy for a player as athletic as her to get used to just overpowering opponents. ESPECIALLY on the woman's side.

Try harder next time Vika.

Well, but seriously now, Azarenka played quite well, I have to say.

Not indicative of quality of play. Though she wasn't at her best today, this year she has been great overall. Particularly her match against Stosur in Charleston was a standout performance.

This match wasn't her best. However, if you look over her performances this year. She is played as good as she ever has.

Middle of the match was pretty bad. Both ends were great tennis though.

Of course she's playing well this year, but the guy was clearly talking specifically about this match.

I think you are a casual fan if you think Serena just relies on overpowering opponents in her matches. She does play very smart tennis.

Ya but it wasn't bad. It just wasn't typical greatness from her.

Then again most of Tennis gaf would never say nothing about Woman's tennis if you put a gun to their head so I suppose it is to be expected.

Yup, people never wanna give her credit.

Seriously. Just because she is strong as hell, it doesn't mean she can't play smart.

Sharapova is more like that, I mean only power and almost none technique like drop shots, slices etc.

Well, it was a great game.

Hopefully Andy wins tomorrow. Fifth GS final, he must be getting desperate to get rid of "the best player ever not to win a major" label.

Not a casual fan. I just don't often discuss sports on GAF,

Of course Serena plays smart tennis. She wouldn't be AS decorated as she is if she didn't know how to play smart tennis.
Then she'd be Samantha Stosur.

But Serena has, in the past, displayed a tendency to underestimate her opponent and rely on her power. Her legs lock, she barely moves around the court, and she relies on her ability to just slam the ball. Then she'd get flustered whenever she encountered a player quick enough to return her balls, and then she'd start erroring all over the place.

It's good to see her really moving and crafting points like she always did earlier in her career, especially when Azarenka turned up her game.

his best shot yet, but as much as i want him to win he ain't going to do it.

he got federed thrice and got godmode novak earlier this year. this novak looks at least beatable.

Yes but poor (at times) footwork is a result of aging moreso than underestimating the opponent and relying on ballbashing. In the second set and most of the third Azarenka played some really deep balls that Serena was not prepared to take, but they also trouble most other players (except Cibulkova lol).
Let's not pretend Serena unbeatable in 2010 or earlier, eg. in 2007 she lost in 3 consecutive majors to Justine.

Highlights of the match against Stosur, just amazing.

He lost the final against Djoker in 2011. This year they played an amazing and tight match, but it was SF.

Yeah, but Justine>>>>>>>>>>>>>all these pretenders.

Ferrer and Del Potro will have softened Djokovic up so Murray has a fighting chance.

No, I'm serious. They're playing 3-on-1. I think he has a shot.

Yes she was incredible. I think she and Serena are the best 2 players of the post-Graf era, it's a bit sad thare's no comparable upcoming talent on the horizon.

I agree with this, I miss Justine I also thought Sharapova was going to come back stronger to be more of a force but she still has so many demons in her game.

Epic choke job by Azarenka.

I don't normally root against anyone, but I can't stand seeing Serena win. She's the best ever, but even for spoiled athletes she's shown a complete lack of character on multiple occasions.

EEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH

Azarenka's wailing might be worse than Screamapova's.

Inappropriate. Where is the outrage?

...naw shes not black.

(Don't get me wrong, Serena has had her classless moment but her dance was not one of them. I never really saw anything she has done as being too bad for an athlete. Male athletes get away with far worse so I never understood the outrage)

I never really liked people debating "of all time" shit with sports. Honestly, its impossible to compare people across eras and people should feel stupid for doing so. Serena is by far the best of her Era, Steffi is the best of hers. The is no non stupid way to compare those eras.

Logic evades you if you think Graf's competition was as tough as Serena's during her career.
The year Steffi won her "Golden Slam" (true Golden Slam: all 4 grand slam titles and gold at the Olympics) in 1988, both Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, two of the greatest players of all-time, were still competing. Granted, not at the top of their games, but still in good form and competing for titles.
