Got the pre-order email from Farnell this morning!

Just ordered and get a free t-shirt :D

I didn't get a free t-shirt. :( And after initially being told April 3, then May 4, then May 14, my order is no expected to ship August 16?! I'm sorry, but you've got to be kidding me. You don't get to tell me it will take a month and then somehow push it all the way back to 5 months. Maybe if I'm lucky I can have it next year. I'm tempted to just cancel the order.

You're lucky, I'm in the UK and haven't even been given the opportunity to order one yet! I'm still on the "register your interest" waiting list!

Did you get an August date from element14? Don’t panic!

Also they started their deliverey. Everything got pushed back because they had to get CE license but they got it now. Everything is on their page.

Hey, anybody still waiting to be able to order one of these?

6 days ago I got an email from them:

Dear customer,

Your Raspberry Pi Id number is XXXXXX

Your date of registration was 13/04

Checking their website for "dates you registered for one" and "when you'll be able to buy one", http://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=raspberrypi&file=questions#Queue, turns out my number is up tomorrow for ordering one, if i'm reading the table right.

Anybody else on these waves have anything to report?

anyone talking about/using this?

I've got mine in the mail at the moment. I'm looking to get xbmc up and running on it as a suitable '2nd media center'

I was disappointed to find it can do 1080p vid, but will have issues with sound decoding on h264 etc unless you offload it to the receiver (the non existent receiver I don't want to pay for....)

anyone got experience?

I missed the mailman yesterday who is delivering my raspberry pi :( So i hope he comes around again today. Planning to install OpenElec on it. I got a separate receiver so that won't be a problem.
I'll report back to you when I got everything up and running :)

Btw if you order now i think the waiting time is 11 weeks.

Still 11 weeks now? Demand must be still pretty high.

I got mine the other day, then promptly built a really ugly case for it out of pixel blocks, and took a terrible quality picture of it:

Love the wee thing, not really sure what to do with it for starters

Big bump, I know.

But I'm getting mine by the end of the week, and I wan't this thread alive for my noodb questions.

Mine has been pretty great. Works pretty just like a regular PC for my purposes. Only downside is that two of my SD cards were bad… and I really should image the one that's currently working so that it's easy to "reinstall" when that dies, too!

I'm using it as a mail, application, and proxy server. Also to play nethack and occasionally use file sharing programs.

I don't have a USB keyboard or mouse (bluetooth only), and I can't get past the Raspbian login screen.

I tried ssh into the RPi, but it won't accept my password (username: pi password: raspberry). I get an error saying something about publickey.

Will I have to purchase USB peripherals? or is there another way?

I had that when I installed the latest raspbmc. Restarting the pi fixed this. I didn't see the screen but I guess the pi was stuck in some kind of "restarting pi to continue installation" thing.

Alright, I just installed Xbian, and it boots straight into XBMC, which I can control with my iphone.

Now to test this puppy out.

Just ordered myself a Model B. I'm pretty hyped. Looking to run XBMC on it and hook up my external HDD to have all my TV shows and movies readily available.

For the sole use as XBMC media player i guess that the PI will get burried under the masses of rather cheap android sticks (e.g. MK808) which can do the same and more.
It's still very good for developers, schools etc. Glad this is a success.

Depending on how my experience will be with XBMC, I think I'll be ordering another one to actually tinker around with.

So i finally got a Rasperry Pi (Model B) in a Sale for 30€ with shipping. Damn, it's tiny. Installed Raspbmc on it and, wow. Everything is smooth and fine, MKV's play without problem from my NAS. The remote from my Samsung TV works over HDMI-CEC just fine. I don't need a mouse or a keyboard so far.
Also already added a lot of addons (different Trailersites like Traileraddict, nba.com etc) for streaming stuff from the net.
This thing is a miracle.

Just found the VideoDevil repository :)

More and more amazed with it every minute. I know XBMC from playing around with it from my laptop but using it easy on my 32" TV with the remote is just awesome. Maybe i will get another Pi for Android.

TAKE PICS

I'll get banned when i post a pic of the xHamster Thumbnail preview i'm seeing atm :) but here is at least a size comparison with my One X (sorry for bad lighting and angle).
To the left is the hdmi cable which goes into my Yamaha reciever, then at the bottom the HAMA wlan Stick (worked without any driver installing), blue thing on top is the SD card which atm is only a 8 GB class 4 Sandisk but i have a 16 GB class 10 lying around here somewhere. Also the micro usb cable which gives the power.
I'm going to get a cheap 10€ case for the Pi or maybe i'll build one myself. Web is full with nice ideas. Seems like a really great community.
I'm going to replace the HAMA stick with a smaller (nano) stick in the future and also get me a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard.

Little update:

Raspbmc works perfect and even got a update recently. Finally got my case and a new edimax nano wlan stick.

Got a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard but sent that back to amazon. Beside the Samsung TV remote i use the XBMC remote app now (android) which works flawless and without noticeable lag. Instead of the "remote" function where you directly control the XBMC (like a TV remote) you also can browse your library on the phone (with the same pics/banners/art you have for your Movies/series) and start the movie from the app. Really nice. GF just got her Rasperri Pi from the same sale and is only waiting for her SD card.

Two pics with the case.

Nice case.

Anyone know of cool Pi projects? I was expecting this thing to start tackling Arduino boards considering the price. But maybe the user base isn't there yet.

I put my RPi into an Atari Flasback case last year:

(Album)

...and it's been sitting there looking lovely, but largely dormant ever since. Now I've decided to run with another idea, and turn it into a mini Arkanoid cabinet, based on an iCade.

ddUKWLO.jpg

All iCade internals will be ditched - it's just the shell that I'm after. The screen will come from a Motorola Atrix Lapdock (11.5", 1366 x 768, HDMI input).

EAWFMtk.jpg

The most important part is the spinner. I've read every ghetto DIY guide and even had a crack at a couple of prototypes, but I've decided to buy one instead: http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268

Picking up a bargain iCade tomorrow, and the fun begins.

I think I'm going to pick one of these up to play around with, but I'm interested in knowing how the experience is for people who use this for XBMC. It seems kind of sluggish from some videos I've seen. Does anyone use this as their primary media center box?

Me. I have Raspbmc installed and stream content from my NAS server. Raspberry has a wlan stick and is tied into my home lan. Watching 720p and 1080 content works flawlessly. Raspberry Pi is connected via HDMI with my reciever and the 5.1 sound also works without problem.

Streaming online videos with addons (Pornsites, nba.com, G4TV or trailersites) also work without a hitch. Trailers from traileraddict.com or gaming sites start automaticly in 720p. (I have 50mbit down).

Maybe the vids are from the Model A with only 256 MB? Model B has 512 MB Ram.

Raspbmc also has an overclock functions integrated. I have it set to "fast".

What do you mean with "sluggish" ? Controls or video playback? You can control xbmc with a TV remote if your TV has HDMI-CEC funtion. You also can add mouse / keyboard (USB) or control it with your smartphone.

Problems with buffering or hiccups have mostly something to do with a bad power source or not enough power or a bad SD card.

Yeah, I should have clarified. It seems like the interface is kind of slow. Playback seems good from what I've seen, but navigating the menu seems sluggish. And then I saw a video of someone trying to bring up a YouTube video and it took forever.

The 256mb model is indeed a bit sluggish, especially if you throw an OS with a larger footprint on there. I've had a 256mb one for a while now (6 months?), but I didn't know about this thread.

so i finally ordered up a model b, funny how after all the accessories and taxes/fees/shipping i'm spending 110 on what what the op generously called the 25 dollar computer. regardless, should be great to start playing 'round with it though.

It's a bit like that innit. The initial "$25 computer" became $35 for the Model B, realistically $50 to get it into your hands, much more if you go nuts on peripherals. But still a great base price for a little motherboard to build projects on.

Speaking of cost blowouts, I picked up my iCade last week, stripped it down, and have done the initial 'rough fit' of the Pi and some other bits. Pics: http://imgur.com/a/OsjPO

Still waiting on my Lapdock to harvest the screen, and the spinner as well.

Depends on what you already have at home. Had the SD card and the cable for power already here (smartphones). The cable is connected to my TV so the Pi shuts down when my TV goes out. No need for extra power plug. Had wifi stick here (but bought another smaller one). Only thing i really needed was the case for 10€.
