The $25 PC

So the ARM11 CPU is basically what was in the iPhone/iPhone3G? Apparently this $25 PC does have 1080P output but I doubt such a CPU could decode 1080P video. This would still be useful as far as general computer stuff, but I would imagine "next years model" can actually deliver a big jump in functionality if you could just hook it up to a TV/monitor and use it as a HTPC.

Model B Bundle will have WiFi... that's the one I'll be looking for. As soon as it comes out, I'm getting 2, one for each tv I own. Done and done.

I've been waiting for the raspberry pi. I plan to build my 4yo son a small PC with lots of educational games on it which is also the reason they are building them. It would also be neat to get one and build a pirate box out of it.

So I can hook my 1TB external HDD to this thing and play 1080p ripped blu-rays? Or can I stream the same movies wirelessly from my home server? If the answer to both of these is yes, good-bye cable TV! :D

The powerful graphics core handles most if not all the decoding work.

Yes to external HDD and 1080p, No to streaming 1080p wireless. The Raspberry only has a 10/100 ethernet port. Which should be more than enough for streaming purposes. Besides even if it had WiFi it you shouldn't want to wirelessly stream 1080p anyway because WiFi is far too unreliable for smooth playback.

What an incredible device - seeing that XMBC video has convinced me to get one when the demand crazyness dies down a bit.

I'm assuming that you can plug a usb hub into this device? Otherwise you couldn't use a keyboard (or any input device) whilst you have an external HDD plugged in.

Just keep in mind that power comes from a micro usb 5v charger as used by almost every (EU and UK at least) smartphone, if you are doing a lot of high power work with a few usb devices attached you may need a more powerful power supply 800mA-1A then most which can go as low as 200mA.

My current plan is to use a powered USB hub and have one of the ports power the device itself.

Why would you even need a keyboard? Just use the xbmc remote app on your phone.

Given that the thing is, as far as I know, caseless it's going to be "annoying" to put openly in a room anyway. Hook it up, put XBMC on the SD Card, attach it to the back of your television and plug in the ethernet-cable. Stream content from the web or a NAS and you've got a really, really interesting HTPC. I know that I'm going to get my hands on one as soon as possible.

This thing was just on BBC News at 6, then I see it here and see it runs XMBC, FUCKING GET. Will wait till the rush dies down, said on the news this thing will eventually have an enclosure, any word on that?

I just ordered one, its on back order till May
if you're interested (and live in the US) call
800-463-9275
and give them this part number part# 83T1943
and tell them you want it shipped through the Gaffney, South Carolina warehouse. It takes longer but you won't have to pay an extra $20 to ship it from the UK

If any of you want to register interest with Farnell, be aware of this:

"By providing your contact details you are agreeing for your details to be used for marketing purposes by companies within the Premier Farnell Group."

That's a deal breaker for me.

Is there a full privacy policy posted?

Well then you'd always need to have the ethernet plugged in, that makes the idea of sticking this into the lounge room TV a little more annoying.

Wouldn't something like this work ?

USB wifi dongle.

I'm thinking this 25buck PC would be huge in underdeveloped in countries in Africa. I assume the HDMI port would limit it though, maybe a VGA would of being better?

Have this fucker here on my table (going to sell it). Made problems with the Wifi connection at my mothers pc. Just bought and installed her a wifi pci-card now. I think the software was somehow shitty.

OT:Just want this thing for XBMC. Already eyed Apple TV (with jailbreak) but this is way cheaper.

What a genius idea. Didn't expect this.

I would have charged more.

Its made by a charity to help teach kids proper IT, not just printing graphs from excel which is pretty much all IT in the UK entails nowadays, they arent doing it for profit.

Not until the Apple Ipi comes out for $250 anyway.

My personal plans- The Raspberry GamePi-Cubed.

Cube case made from semi-transparent blue acrylic, internally will be the pi, wifi dongle, wireless keyboard+mouse dongle a 5v battery supply and a red led fan for a purple glow when its on.

The only wire coming out will be the hdmi, with a charging port accessible for the 5v supply, probably a high mAh mobile phone battery booster, something akin to this-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000UH46YY/

Or something beefier with a V-drop circuit.

The only accessible port would be the SD card slot to allow changing of different SD cards for different game packs (obviously not a different emulator and rom pack on each one, that would be naughty) or different freeware linux games including whatever distro and software required to run them.

Ambitions as iam a electrics noob but at the rate of which these things are being sent out I have plenty of months to make plans.

Same date as me, I figure it's not too long of a wait. At least I will probably get it in a shorter amount of time than it took me to get my Touchpad.

Mine has gone from April 3 when I ordered, to May 4 after I ordered, to May 14 today. At this point it basically feels like a scam to hold my money.

I don't think it's a scam so much as the two companies really weren't prepared for the demand. If you ordered from Farnell, they already sold out their allocation of the initial batch. RS is probably a better bet as they haven't started selling them at all yet (expected to do so this week sometime).
