The Amazing Spider-Man TRAILER #2

So hyped. I stick to my original sentiment. This movie is going to rival tdkr in the box office and will be the better film.

I don't think it has a good chance of rivaling TDKR at the box office, but I will grant you the chance. As for it being the better film? You're on your own there, friend.

I don't know... I'm a huge Spidey fan, but I just didn't get excited after watching this. Something about the tone just feels off. Plus Andrew Garfield doesn't have that certain charm to his voice that always seems to get associated with Spider-Man. The in-suit stuff seems fine and I'm glad that they appear to be keeping with the fight dialogue that Spider-Man is known for but I dont really dig Garfield's Peter Parker. Feels off.

I'm probably being finicky. It is just a trailer, but it feels too "edgy" or something. I don't know. It's hard to describe. I'll still keep an eye on it though.

Realized I was linking to 1440x900 versions of the pics. :lol Sorry, i'll edit in the small versions later. All the caps are here, anyway.

I don't think there is ever a good reason to post a bunch of screenshots for no reason in a discussion thread. We're here to talk about a subject, not look at a website or a gallery.

looks absolutely amazing from the few bits i've seen.

calling it right now: moty right after the burial.

People always post screen caps after a trailer, my mistake for posting so many though. It really a better look at the trailer, since those frame cut so damn fast.

Noticed a scene where he gets tased in his rib. Also, the glowing red light every time he shoots a web out is kinda lame, just noticed it a lot.

Posting screenshots to illustrate a point or to talk about is fine. It's just a bit annoying if it's a huge spam of screens that no one really asked for in the thread.

I don't think TDKR will be a bad film. I think it's going to be cluttered. Everything I've read about it and seen makes me think that Nolan is trying to shove too much in there, not just characters, but themes. TDK already struggled with that, but I think in his quest to accomplish the perfect trilogy, TDKR is going to be over burdened by the virtue of closing the book.

Amazing on the other hand is coming from the opposite direction. A follow up to a trilogy that ended on a dour note, it's not burdened by any expectations. It looks fun so far, and from what I've read on the SDCC preview and yesterday's screenings, it seems to balance the light-heartedness of the Raimi films with a more intense punch.

Eitherway, it should be a good year for comic book films, and just when it looked like Marvel Studios had convinced me that the genre was destined to be a never ending cycle of half-baked setups for a movie that was never coming.

TDK was such a massive phenomenon of a film, at the time the second highest grossing of all time. Not to mention it was basically universally adored by everyone. It doesn't matter how good TDKR (and to doubt its quality would be a bit unwise, Nolan has yet to have a misfire) that the mere fact of being the sequel to it ensures it will be the #1 film of the summer.

It is likely literally impossible for TDKR to gross less than 400 mil domestically. A number ASP even if great likely has no shot at making. Basically I'd predict: TDKR will do 450 mil - 500 mil. Avengers will do 275-325 mil, Spider-Man will do 200-250 mil.

I have to admit that I haven't actually had a chance to watch this trailer yet but the polar opposite points of view about it in this thread shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Comic/superhero fans will be there opening day regardless but it's going to be a much harder sell to everyone else. This film just feels totally unnecessary and Sony are going to have an uphill battle selling this story to the 'mainstream' audience again.

No one cares about Sony's need to keep the theatrical rights to Spiderman. What they are about is the film itself and is it something they are actually willing to pay to see...., again.

In ten or so years ? Pretty high considering it's Sony and they don't want to lose the rights to their biggest money maker.

There will still be a Sony Pictures ten years from now?

Not a fan of that either. Not really a fan of most of the Ultimate line.

Blasphemy! But to be honest, as long as JMS is nowhere near my Spider-Man comics I'm happy. Though I will say he did a few things really really well when he first began his run. His treatment of Aunt May was great who had long been neglected, and Peter's relationship with Mary Jane developed really well (as long as JRjr was drawing for some reason).

What Raimi's films got perfect was the tone. They were filmed so well, especially the second one with Bill Pope on board. But Peter Parker's characterization was all wrong. Ditko's Parker (which lets be honest, was the only time Peter was actually kind of a loser) wasn't terribly shy or awkward. He was overburdened by the responsibility of caring for his aunt, and trying to get a scholarship which is why he couldn't give up time for other pursuits, which he really did want to do.

Raimi's Parker didn't know what the fuck was up. He was a loser because he was kind of socially retarded, unlike the more complex narrative that Ditko and Lee gave of his burdens overpowering his social responsibilities to himself. They made him intelligent and quick on his feet with witty retorts that only the reader understood. Raimi's Parker was like Napolean Dynamite with powers.

The reboot is a good opportunity to get those things right. I just wish Bill Pope and Raimi were involved.

Movie looks ok but honestly The Avengers has the better trailer.

That said, Emma Stone >>> ScarJo and I'm a sucker for Marvel Comics so I'm still going to watch The Amazing Spider-Man.

Absolutely love this shot:

I'm sure the script does have some great Parker quips, but it just seems like Garfield is far too surly and mumbly to pull them off, especially with the whole emo undercurrent of the films costume design and setting their marketers were clearly keen to evoke.

Is this some kind of joke?

What exactly do you think looks "emo" about this new movie? He wears skinny jeans and rides a skateboard.

Fair enough. But in that case, observation time (click a pic for the big version);

You can see here that he's testing out the web shooter, and there's this red glow and a sort of misty poof when it shoots out the web. You can spot this in other parts of the trailer, too, where there's a misty quality when he shoots a web, along with an (imo, lame) LED red light going off.

Here SM gets tazed in the ribs, and apparently falls unconscious. Capt. Stacy (Gwen's dad) pulls off his mask, and i'm gonna assume no one recognizes him as he beats the shit out of all the police (including Capt. Stacy?). But then there's a scene where he's all teary eyed, and I ASSUME he's looking straight at Capt. Stacy, with a "i'm sorry for kicking your teams ass and yes i am SM" face.

I hope to god this is just the early version of the web shooter, because all those gears and shit are so impractical, I would assume it's a prototype and he's testing it out in the city. There's a weird screen/radar looking thing, though, which me and another poster thought was the classic trackers SM throws, but it looks like it isn't that, and is more of an automated webshooter/aiming/targeting system instead.

Notice his wrist glowing, right as he shot the web. Seems counter productive to me, no idea what the purpose for something like that would be/how it would be explained...

This is a big one. For those of you who might not know what Lizards overall goal in the comics is, he is basically trying to turn the planet into reptilian lizard humanoids, like him. This lizard persona takes over and along with it comes the ego that everyone should be of his superiority. What is he doing at the top of Oscorp? It LOOKS like there's a sort of bomb on the building, but I'm going to go on a limb and assume that it contains the same formula that he used on himself, and is trying to expose NYC to an airborne version, infecting everyone and turning them all reptilian. This seems to make sense, as the rumors have sort of indicated certain factions turning into lizards in the movie, too.

The trailer was pretty good. Still not a fan of the suit or the hair. Or the skateboard. Quippage was great. Hope the movie turns out alright.

That was actually my least favorite shot due to the CG being a bit rough (esp. when he's swinging down). But it looks like it'll be awesome in 3D/on the big screen when it's all done.

Very good trailer, but I've always thought the Lizard was a terrible villain so I'm not as a excited about this as I should be.

This was my favorite scene, it shows (in a kinda realistic way) how he can shoot actual web balls as he does in the comics;

You know what? I think Spidey's B.O might actually have a chance of competing with TDKR if only because it has a good 3 weeks of no competition before TDKR arrives, where as TDKR only has 2 weeks until Bourne and Total Recall will dig into its' box office.

Looks ok enough. Why did they fuck with the classic Spidey costume? It works and it's immediately recognizable to the general public. Trying the separate themselves from the first trilogy?

It's a shame they cast Emma Stone. Not really feeling Andrew either, but otherwise it looks alright.

What's wrong with it? You think people won't recognize it as Spiderman? It's not that radically different, it still looks like Spiderman.

Haha what? Neither of those two will do good. Renner led Bourne? No way.

Given that the device is a green cannister, I'd say it's definitely the lizard formula. What's annoying is that they show how Spider-Man takes down the tower.

It's an important consideration. The level of success that TDK enjoyed was from repeat viewings. If a portion of the audience decides they'd rather spend their money on a new Bourne than rewatch TDKR, that could hurt. But I don't expect it to have too much of an effect to be honest.

Maybe my love of spider-man is stopping me from being level headed and recognising the criticisms but I thought it looked great and people are just being too negative. It looks closer to ult. spider-man and closer to what I wanted from the other movies

I didn't say they would do well. But they're big enough brand names to stifle TDKR's steamroll somewhat after two weeks in cinemas. Meanwhile, Spiderman has 3 weeks of literally nothing to stop it. Then TDKR hits and its box office will plummet.

I still think TDKR will do bigger B.O if only because TDK was incredibly front-loaded anyway. Fastest to $400m if I remember correctly. I expect the same front loading for TDKR.

Trailer was much better than anything before it, but still not getting hyped. I liked the quip in the car part, and some of the stunt work, but it looks too much like they want to make it dark and gritty to mimic Batman. Would it hurt them to do a daytime shot at all?

Big positive though: webbing and webshooters look ace. The suit is just middle of the road for me.

It should also be noted that TDK had zero competition in the box office in the form of a big action adventure film following its release and then the duration of its run. TDKR won't have that advantage at all.

I think people need to remember that no less than FOUR superhero movies launched last summer and not one grossed above $200m in the US. Personally I think that Amazing Spiderman is probably going to come in at $150-200m in the US.

I'd say that X-Men:First Class was my favourite of summer superhero movies. It was also a reboot and it made $146m in the US. And the highest grossing was Thor which made $181m at the start of the summer.

Amazing Spiderman has just a single week to itself before Ice Age 4 comes out and knocks it off the top spot on the 13th of July. Ice Age is one of those franchises that people don't really realise is such a box office powerhouse.
