Anyone know any good websites or programs to keep track of e/virtual book sales? I have an Ipad and want to pick up more kindle and app store books but I find frequently that they cost more then just buying the actual physical copy of the freaking book! Hoping that maybe there are some sales to take advantage of but so far Appshoper is the only thing that I have seen that tracks them and 90% of the time the stuff is junk kids books or asian books.

Its supposed to work here too, dont know why it isnt! Guessing you know me from CAG?

Edit - There! Much better, I feel like me again ;)

someone can suggest me some good applications for creating music? nothing too professional, though.

i already have korg ielectribe and ims-20. haven't really dipped into ims-20, although i quite like it.

do you have any recommendetions?

Well I'm kinda indirectly joining the iOS club.
I ordered an iPad 2 for my mother's birthday so I'm going to follow this thread for a while and see if there's anything that sounds useful for her.
Her package seems to be touring all of Asia first though...

The microfiber ones? Of course they should. Glasses have plastic lens 99% of the time and iPad is a pretty scratch resistant glass screen.

Maybe cheap $99 glasses. Most people may get those, but not 99% of people.

? I don't know of anyone that gets glass in their glasses. Glass is heavier so they usually use a type of plastic.

Either way it won't scratch glass. A paper towel wouldn't scratch it either most likely, it's not that fragile.

I guess you're right. It's just a difference between cheap plastic and the good scratch resistant stuff.

I have a problem viewing images on gaf and other sites. For example, in the crossover pictures thread i could see about a quarter of op's images, the rest were little blue squares with a question mark in them. Other posts, which i know have images in them, will just show up completely blank, but that's rarer. Whats weirder is that when i reload the page, some of the images that were there will suddenly be the little blue squares and vice versa; I'll get to see some of the images that were blue squares the first time. This happens a lot and I'm getting tired of it so I'm looking to fix it. After some searching yielded nothing i come to you guys. Is there a way to fix it? I just want to see all the damn pictures.

A friend of mine is willing to sell me his unopened 64GB 3G iPad 1 for a ludicrous price (like, less than 200 dollars), and I'm still deciding on whether or not it'll be something I actually need. Can anyone comment on its abilities as a note-taking device? I currently use a netbook for lecture notes, but I'm finding it impossible to really use to write papers and do any actual work when I'm not at home on my primary computer. The screen is too low-res.

Would an iPad satisfy me if I were to buy a keyboard case for it? Does anyone else do this?

I pretty regularly go out to coffee shops and whatnot to write, though using the screen and not a keyboard. I heard the KB is pretty good though. And at that price, damn, I'd probably buy it regardless.

That is an insane price for something that retailed for over $800 a year ago.

I use my iPad to take notes in class without a Bluetooth keyboard (just use the virtual keyboard). However, for writing multi-page papers, I use a Netbook instead of the iPad. File management is somewhat of a pain until documents in the cloud comes out, and the virtual keyboard is not my first choice for writing multi-page papers. For class notes, it's fine and much more portable than the Netbook.

I've tried a keyboard case for iPad and do not like it because it adds massive bulk to the size of the iPad, and I don't want to deal with taking it in and out of the case. Rather get a Bluetooth keyboard that I can use as needed without compromising the size of the iPad.

Pages can't save to Dropbox or anything? My netbook screen is so low-res that it makes it both hard to look at for long periods of time and to evaluate large bodies of text. I know the iPad screen isn't massive, but I think it'd be better. I think it'd just be nice to have to get work done between classes, not for serious work. And I could really use a PDF reader...

Pages is an Apple product so it's currently limited to iDisk unless you figure out a problematic DAV. Since iDisk is going away in favor of iCloud this fall clearly they will be making another software update though.

Various other writing programs do support Dropbox on the iPad. I haven't used any Office style ones yet but iA Writer does a fine job doing Dropbox sync as a plain text screenwriting tool (that you could always cut and paste for real document work later; it's literally just writing TXT)

That's disappointing. I'll probably just screw around with the thing until then, because that sounds rather annoying.

So does Netflix work on an iPad, i mean original ipad cause it doesn't work on mine, starts loading the movie and goes back to the catalogue, WTF?

Need a good note app for grad school that can sync with my Mac — preferably over-the-air/cloud — and allow me to categorize notes into folders for different classes and use offline. Any recommendations?

Noteshelf is on sale right now for $.99 (reg $4.99). I think it can sync via dropbox or evernote. It's got options for multiple notebooks, paper, covers, and pen / marker colors.

I just downloaded it, but haven't used it.

Just got an ipad2 as a gift from my sis who went to Thailand for her honeymoon and found them cheap.

I've discovered iTunes is so, so, so, so shit.

Is there any decent free program that will let me transfer files to and from it in a regular, convenient manner?

If not, any decent paid one? iTunes is REALLY shit.

Also, for some reason it doesn't play the MOV files from my camera, what's a free program that can easily queue and convert multiple files to formats that will play on it? I found one that only did them one by one which is a chore for the amount I've got (well, not me, my sister's holiday videos mainly atm).

And what are some essential apps? The device seems pretty powerful with how smooth the browser is and stuff (though Infinity Blade seems to have frame rate issues and stuff despite being such a limited game) but is also pretty limited in what it offers out of the box.

I did check that recommended apps google doc and eh, yeah, there's barely anything.

Handbrake, and then a Handbrake batch GUI if you want to set up a ton at once.

You could also try and download an app like Azul Media Player that plays a large variety to codecs. May save you a ton of time converting if you didn't want to spend the time.

But will itunes be able to tell the ipad can now play those files instead of give me the error about not copying them fromitunes because the ipad can't play them?

You would sync the files with the app in question rather than syncing them through the iTunes Video library, if you went that route. I would recommend transcoding.

Okay, thanks guys. Kind of stupid how limited and locked down this thing is when otherwise it seems to have pretty good capabilties that could replace a laptop for many tasks beyond browsing and stuff...

With iOS5 out and Match about to come out any day now, there's no reason you should need to use any program that isn't iTunes, and you really won't have to use that much at all either.

It's really not a problem. As I said, you can play the files directly on the iPad through various apps on the App Store (no different than downloading VLC because WMP or Quicktime can't play something) and get them on the device directly through iTunes.

You can also use the "Open in..." feature to open up the same file between apps. I've downloaded zip files through alternative browser, unzipped them in a different app, and played them in yet another app.

That's some pretty deep workflow that was handled without an issue, I'd say!

What programs did you use for all that? The recommended browser in the other thread?

Not sure what Match has to do with what I've been talking about though, subscription service for cloud saving your music, and?

Edit: nm, I'm asking in the iOS apps thread then.

Hello,

My grandmother gave me an iPad 2 (hasn't arrived yet) and I'm on the hunt for a nice cover. The Smart Cover is nice, but only protects the screen and I'm looking for a leather or sleeve kinda cover. Do you guys have any suggestion?

Also, any must have apps? I'm aware of the recommended apps list, but it's kinda short.

Thanks!

Just wondering how the performance of iOS5 is handling on the iPad 1. Thinking of getting one preowned, but don't want to gimp myself in performance

I won't really be gaming on it. Mainly for web-browsing, PDF reading and emails

My sister just got an ipad 2 and I was wondering if it was worth getting a screen protector or if it's pretty resistant. She's really enjoying it and has been handling it like a baby so far though.

Another question, she loves to draw and ive seen a few apps but what are some of the best drawing apps? Also any with some sort of export to pc feature?

It's very resistant, no need for a protector. It can handle cat claws without leaving marks, lol.

I've noticed some keyboard lag with ios5 on my ipad 1. It happens in safari more than anywhere else.

If you don't need serious protection, but don't want scratches as well as extra thickness, i'd go with a smart cover and a back cover (something like this boockback);

Hey gang, I got a new iPad 2 for Christmas, I am loving it!!!

Quick question:
1. What is the best way to get my anime on this thing?
2. I want to spend $50 on the app store, what are the best stuff to buy?

Thanks,
