Oh c'mon, it's tradition. Lighten up.
It's tradition to ruin threads. Gotcha.

If I ever make this mistake, I'm just making the thread again in OT and abandoning the one in gaming.

It sucks you'll never have a decent convo about BSB now for posting on the wrong side LOL.

I kinda got very nostalgic recently when I heard one of their early songs. They're still good pop in my opinion and it still would be relevant if some group or artist came out with those tracks (just update the production and change up the lyrics for context). Noone would bat an eye if Beiber released similar stuff now.

They kinda lost me 3 albums ago though. People might say its because they're old but the music kinda sucks now, especially when they tried to go electro lol. The song they shot in Japan was cute though.

Maybe its time to target Adult Contemporary format. Incomplete worked very well for them in that regard.

I came into this thread to post "Everytime I Close My Eyes" but saw the OP had already done so. Nice one OP!!! ;)

I'm not gonna lie, but I gotta say, these guys had/have so much vocal potential, it's funny/annoying when I hear people dis these guys. It's just a shame they aint so popular no more. They beat listening to pop music nowadays anyway. Here's hoping for a massive comeback from them, and yes I know they had a pretty mediocre album back in 2009, but still...

I think with just the right management etc. and BSB can be huge again. Or am I wrong?

Oh and I kinda like Boys Will Be Boys from their 1st album in a wierd way.

I think they have hits in them definetely. Just as long as they dont try to go electro like they tried on the recent album and lose their identity in the process. Obviously courting the teenage girls wont work well anymore but for example "Incomplete" was a very good hit for them in POP and AC formats.

And to be honest I think the market might be craving something more honest and romantic now that just about everybody is releasing their own dance/rave song. We're gonna reach full saturation and somebody should capitalize on it (other than Adele)

Same... I really like their first 4 albums... I did listen to their new songs, but it's not the same. I prefer the 90's style.

They will never be big again. The only bands that stick around for a long time actually contribute to music enough to where their shitty content is excused down the road when they are old and sorta suck. Bands/artists like the Rolling Stones, Sting/The Police, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Prince, etc. Backstreet Boys were one of many boy bands who really won't be remembered as anything more than a part of a 90's trend.

Yeah... Everytime I Close my Eyes is one of my favorites... not just because the lyrics, but because the great music.

I think that's kinda frowned upon by the mods. You'd be better off just asking a mod to move the thread.

Some of their stuff is great, mainly the upbeat pop songs produced by Max Martin and Denniz Pop.

Who I was gonna mention.

The group did put in the work to become stars but the guys behind the music had the magic touch.

Speaking of the music, do you know what that piano type instrument is? Sounds like some sort of old school piano, 80's piano maybe?

TBH, I think all BSB need is a superhit like Bieber's Baby for peepz to come crawling back. You know what I was thinking, what if they made an album with Boyz 2 men? They do need a sort of new direction to go in. Also, my fave vocalist is definitely AJ Mclean.

And where the hell did everyone in this thread go? No love BSB? Sigh.

Oh, AJ... he sings an excellent song called Lay Down Beside Me... have you heard it? The live version in Orlando is great.

It's a sexy song...

They are the rare group where all the singers can actually..*gasp*...sing! I mostly prefer the older stuff but "Bigger" and "She's a Dream" off the latest album were quite good. Also, some of the newer stuff that didn't make the last 2 albums were really good too ("Happily Never After", "There's Us" etc.)

Who has the best voice? Personally, I like the voice of Brian. He was kinda like the lead singer of the band.

Brian is definitely the best singer. He has the best range and diversity. I would rank them this way:

Brian - Can sing any style and pace and hit all notes
Nick - Honestly AJ would be ranked higher but Nick is consistently better live. He's also a bit more versatile
AJ - Unique and strong voice
Howie - Not the best voice for fast-paced songs. A bit too high at times
Kevin - He'd be the 3rd best singer on a group like N'Sync lol

I never really thought of one being the "leader". They always seemed more even than that. If the tour goes well maybe they can have a bit of a comeback in popularity. Kevin seemed pretty chill and sounds like me so if I had a favorite it would be him.

Well... yeah, no one was the leader, per se, but to me the songs were divided like this:

  • Brian: 30%
  • Nick: 25%
  • AJ: 25%
  • Howie: 10%
  • Kevin: 10%

Actually I think your division is just about where I would put it, maybe flipping AJ and Nick. And it was/is nice that they can actually carry a tune unlike the overly autotuned "singers" of today. Seems not too long ago that they were so huge that "everybody" knew who they were. If Britney can make a couple comebacks I'd like to see them do it just once. It was kinda cool last year when they all got back together on Oprah for some fan thing. Suprised to see they still have fans quite to the level she was at.

Oh, my... the song is way older than I though... here is a video from 1994 with them singing it.

Yeah, I'd already seen that but man, felt good seeing it again. No lip-synching AT ALL. Probably one of their earliest performances but they were still rockin it live.

Is there a chance for the whole "rick roll" thing happening to these, because it seemed to have done wonders for Rick Astley.

Just to pimp some more stuff:

All I Have To Give

Everybody (Backstreet's back)

As Long As You Love Me

My first concert was a BSB concert way back. Used to love them but they lost me after Millennium. Nsync was so much better <3

I can't think of any songs that really sound like they would have been on one of the 90's cds, maybe something like Straight Through My Heart would have fit in somewhere as a B side or something. They aren't really as "pop" sounding as back then, guess just the way the music scene has changed. Even their faster paced stuff doesn't come of as from the same group from then.

Oh, I just read your comment! I really don't know how I missed it...

Anyway... thanks for naming those songs. I'm gonna search them in YouTube.

Anyone here that song If I Knew Then from them recently? Wasn't bad.

Edit: This one

This is their best song though.

I like them. They actually have good voices and are good at what they do. Love how male GAFers feel their masculinity is compromised every time they utter the name of a boy band, even though GAFers are probably the least butch blokes going around.

they are still big in Asia, Europe, South America... pretty much everywhere in the world except north america.

I love the timing of this thread. I gotta say that I listened to them a lot as my sister loved them so I gave it a shot as she would always play their damn music so loud. They've got a lot of great tracks and I've been just randomly listening to them over the past week on youtube.

In a way its like completing the circle. They started off being big in Europe before releasing a cd in the US and now they are back to being pretty big everywhere but the US. They just need the right song to get them back in peoples minds. That concert coming up might help, but it would probably help more if they reversed their position from the 90's and instead of having Britney be their opener, try and do a co-concert or something.

They had a few good songs.

Quite Playing Games with my Heart - teen bop but good
Everybody - I though at first was corny, but ended up loving it
I Want It That Way - hated it at first but ended up liking it
Larger Than Life - great beat
Shape of My Heart

lol dis thread. My sister spammed the shit out of them so a couple of their songs (especially the singles) were forever ingrained in my mind. I enjoy them though, but in retrospect N'Sync seems like the better group (No Strings Attached has a couple of jams that hold up to this day).

Used to be a huge BSB fan back in the day. (I'm a woman) I would say Nick/Brian were the best singers in the group back then. Now I'd say that Howie has a really great voice and was probably overlooked by the fact that he would constantly wink back in the day.....

I really haven't heard Howie's voice a lot... could you recommend me some of the newer songs with him singing a lot?
