The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

What's great is on Iwo Jima if you push the US off the island completely, you can sit in a tank at the fishing village and just shoot the boats as they leave the carrier.
The best part was this one guy got out of the boat and just decided to swim to the side, as if that was going to save him.

spawn killing really is great

I've tried to play and I keep getting killed within 10 seconds or so. This isn't fun. I mean with Halo 3 I can at least jump around and get a few kills. I'm just getting slaughtered.

Which class do you typically use?

Edit: Stay away from Scout for now. Use flag spawn and spawn in areas adjacent to battles or away from battles so you don't get caught up in cross fire or spawn in front of a dude. Auto-spawn will put you in "active" areas. When you choose a place to spawn, you get a view of the flag. If it's being lowered there's obviously a guy there so be wary. Don't run in the open when there's cover. Gaudalcanal is a bitch because of all the hills so try to get to high ground and kneel when you're looking for enemies. On Iwo Jima stay away from Fishing Village if the other team has Mount Suribachi.

Edit2: Oh yeah, if you get killed at your base by a single enemy, try to respawn there quick and take him out, 'cause most of the time the enemy thinks the threat is gone and will be kneeling in a building--an easy place to throw a grenade or melee him. Rifleman is good for this 'cause the grenade launcher takes out enemies in one shot.

Squad up. A lone wolf won't get anything done. Plus, you can spawn on your squad leader and get right back in the action when you do get killed.

Takes three rifle grenades to take out a full health tank. Takes two rockets from the soldier class, I believe.
it takes a helluva lot more than that!

from the front/sides it takes
9 Grenades (they do about 12% damage)
9 Rifle Grenades (they do about 12% damage)
3 Rockets (they do about 35%)

if you aim at the turret and not the base, it takes
[obviously, i'm not gonna aim grenades at the turret]
8 Rifle Grenades (they do about 14% damage)
3 Rockets (they do about 40% damage)

if you shoot it from the back, it takes
4 Grenades (they do about 27% damage)
4 Rifle Grenades (they do about 27% damage)
2 Rockets (they do about 80% damage)

You can't play it like Halo. You can't Superman it like you can in that game. You have to play situationally and recognize what's the right thing to do based on the situation. Somebody posted some good tips a few pages back.

You asked for it :P (NOTE: All controls explained here are for PS3. Translate the buttons for 360 if required).

Before anything, run the tutorial. It's a VERY Basic tutorial but it's a fun, quiet way to get familiar with weapons.

Start as a rifleman. You start playing with snipers and SMG and you can forget about learning anything.

Try to crouch whenever you shoot for it helps alot in accuracy. Stand if there is a bunker or a window in your line of fire. Do not tap the trigger like a maniac. Tap at the average rate of 2 shots a second and you're good to go.

Do NOT try to play Rambo unless you are confident you can make it through. The objective of the game is to capture as many flags as you can. It's best that you do that and defend it. Stay in the captured base for atleast a minute or two and play the waiting game. I had games with literally no kills yet I was one of the top players, all because I was capturing bases and ensuring my team wins while the rest provide suppressing fire.

Remember, enemies ONLY show in radar if a friendly unit spots it. If you see an enemy, SHOOT AT HIM and hide. You will see a message "Lifeonmars: Enemy spotted". You spot an enemy and everyone else will. They will try to take him down as you will too. Even if you just shoot and him once and mind your own business, you will get atleast 3 points for assist for spotting him. Spotting an enemy is also great because for 10 seconds after spotting him, you can pinpoint exactly where he will be. Even if he hides behind a building, and try to flank you, you will know and you can be prepared. Aim for the head!

If you get shot from a location you are not aware, RUN and HIDE. Try to hide behind the building/hills. Wait for him to reveal himself for they always do. Wait for someone else to spot him. Again, if you are spotted, for 10 seconds he will know exactly where you are hiding. Don't duck for 5 seconds and reveal your face. You will be shot again, making it quite frustrating.

Make sure you know when you are and when you are not close to a captured flag without actually being beside it (easily indicated by the circle that shows up between the meter/bar on top. If you see a circle, even if it's solid, you are close to the flag). It's a great way to capture flags while you hide indoors. If the circle is solid blue, this means you already have taken over the base. If it's solid red and it's not changing to white, take cover and look out for enemies for they should be real close to you. Don't stand beside a door for a grenade or a rocket can blow you away. If you die in your a captured base and you were close to the flag radius, quickly tap the spawn button. The spawn timer is exactly the same as the capture timer. If you are quick enough at tapping the spawn button, you CAN spawn at a neutral zone. That way, you can kill the enemy, recapture the zone and get massive points!

Tired of running after enemies? Sit in an anti-air turret. They are the easiest targets to get and it's very useful to the rest of the team to have a great AA turret. Just remember: take 2 or more planes down and they will look out for you. If you are not worrying about dying then great! If you are then you should get down. When shooting AA turrets, it's best NOT to chase an enemy or shoot at it when it's in the crosshair. Always aim ahead cause the bullets have a traveling time. For best results, shoot the turret in the air and see how long it takes to rip the sky. You'll have an idea on how early to shoot a plane.

Entering an enemy zone and not sure if they are hiding? BLOW THE FUCKING BUILDING! Every class is equipped with a demolition weapon. Rifleman's Grenade launcher being the weakest yet the quickest and Sniper's TNT being the strongest yet slowest. Since I advised you to take Rifleman, it'll be quick and smooth to blow the walls. Start with destroying the roof right above the doors of each building. It'll make a decent size opening to prevent any enemy from hiding inside. Also, all rockets/grenade work as a projectile. Aim a little higher if the target is far away and aim much higher is required.

Jeep vs. Jeep: No need to waste time destroying it. Just pass by and let them be. If they bother you, get out of the vehicle and use grenade launcher on them. It'll explode instantly.
Jeep vs. Tank: Tank will win for sure.
Tank vs. Tank: It's a risky game. If you miss your first shot and he didn't, then it's best to get out and run for you'll be dead in the next shot. Always weaken a Tank if you know you have no chance of running via grenade launcher followed by two tosses of grenade followed by another grenade launcher. This will provide a seamless attack without any time to wait for reloading for the launcher will reload by the time you toss out the two grenades.

Join a squad the moment the match starts. Spawn with squad whenever possible. It helps you in a "watch and learn" kinda way and you have a group of people supporting you when under fire. Also, when in squad, you can communicate even without mic by pointing at the base you want them to defend/attack (by pressing select). It's a great way for them to be focused on what you want from them for that moment. If someone else marks a flag, go for it for you will not be alone.

The two swords icon that you will see above a flag indicates where most players are engaged in battle. It is a useful indicator if you want to avoid any enemy or want to know where to focus i.e. you can either enter that zone and stop the enemy from capturing the base or you can try to go to the flag furthest from that zone since there won't be much activity there. It's also a useful indicator when you want to air-raid a base.

LEARN THE MAP. Learn the locations of air-raid and learn the locations of all the vehicles. Learn which flag is more important and which isn't.

In Iwo-Jima: The flag on the hill and the lighthouse and the most important flags. You control these two and you can easily control the fishing village between them, thus giving you a 3:2 flag advantage. Air-raid is not as lethal in this map as in others.
In Guadancanal, The base with air-raid and the hill right in front of it are the most important locations. Air-raid can be deadly in this map.
In Wake Island, the 2nd flag on the left side of the base (the one where there is a bridge between two bases) and the airfield base with air-raid are the most important bases.

Another tip for Wake Island when the round starts: If you get in the plane, rush towards the airfield and capture it (Get out of the plane by pressing O and parachute by pressing X). As soon as you capture it, go for the air-raid. If you can't get in the plane, then get in the boat as the driver and wait for atleast 2 more people to hop it (they will). Instead of going for the base on the "horse shoe's tip" (that's how the map looks like: A horse shoe) close to you, go for the base that the other team is going for. They won't even expect you to rush for it! Capture it and they will definitely slow down.

How do you squad up by the way.

1/2 the time I get the option to join a squad when I get into a match and the other half I don't.

If you don't pick open squad the beginning you have to go into the pause menu during the game and select the squad option

Today's tip: Reload. Every weapon you can manually reload using the square button. Use this wisely. Not planning to use the secondary weapon in the next 10 seconds? Reload it!

Secondary weapons and grenades have a great auto-reload ability that should be used whenever you can.

Other things about reload in primary weapons that I have noticed: If you run out of ammo and if the reload animation starts, you can run while it reloads. It won't show you the reload animation while reloading but you will indeed reload. This is good when you shoot someone and you want to run for cover for a while to reload.

HOWEVER, If you change your weapon and go back to the unloaded weapon, you'll have to reload all the way from the beginning. Yes, M1 Garand's clip will fall out AGAIN so don't expect to just enter the new clip.

Snipers beware: Make sure you empty ALL the ammo before reloading. Since there is a massive clipping time between two shots, it is not recommended to reload in between. Unlike other games where you only reload the amount of bullets you used, in BF1943, the reload animation will load all the bullets. This is not good for people who are used to reloading the clip after one or two shots.

For secondary weapons, you do not have to wait for reloads (except for Pistols if I am correct). It's a good way to spam explosions. Both for Rifleman and SMG Infantry class can take advantage of this. If you shoot a rocket or a rifle grenade, you do NOT need to see the reload animation. You can pull out your rifle/SMG, empty the clips and go back to Rocket/Rifle-Grenade and shoot another round before reload animation kicks in.

Ofcourse, you can top this with the following combination for massive damage:

- One round of Rocket/Rifle-Grenade
- Toss both your grenades
- Immediately switch to Rocket/Rifle-Grenade and shoot another round.
- Switch to SMG/Rifle and empty the clip
- Switch back to Rocket/Rifle-Grenade and shoot the final round.
- By the time you shoot your third round, the grenades will be folly loaded. Toss them both.
- By the time you toss the grenade, your Rocket/Rifle-Grenade will be fully loaded. Shoot a round
- Switch to SMG/Rifle and reload it. Duck and cover.

This is REALLY useful when you face a tank or a jeep and when you are under a hill while the enemy is on top. Even if he has the hire ground, the amount of shit you throw at him should be able to make him think twice when he approaches you. It also has alot of chance of killing him as well and it should definitely lead to an assist if he ends up killing you.

BONUS: Tip for Iwo-Jima: If the enemy takes over the air-raid base, then you should try to take over the base right beside it. That way, they will be cornered if they try to spawn in that base. I had a game where my team took over all the bases and let them spawn in the air-raid base. I rakked up 19 kills playing duck hunt with them :lol . They were so confused, they didn't even try to spawn back in the boats! Try not to take over that base for they will constantly spawn. Rifle has a massive range to take em down from the barbwire fences that lead to the air-raid base. I had SO much fun doing it! :lol

Welcome to Battlefield.
Car bombs have been a staple of this series.
Well, at least for me they were.
You could do some crazy shit with ATVs in special forces, they were fast, had great inertia, and you can launch them at things with ease.
And yes, helicopters are things.
Bruce Willis got nothing on me.

And while we're talking about explosives shenanigans, one of my favorite pastimes in BF2 was to C4 jets and blow them up as they take off.

My favorite thing to do against other Spec Ops was to put C4 on my own tank beforehand, get out when they try to do the same thing, and then blow them up when they try to steal it.

Still having issues playing w/ friends? Check out some new info from the devs...

@HoTHiTR BF1943 specific ports. GvD will make a forum thread soon with all the details soon and I'll link it here

I'm guessing directing some BF1943 specific ports might clear up some issues some of us have been having. Nice.

Eric WK and myself just won a few games together! We need to play together more man and hopefully Ill actually talk instead of being quiet and floating

Played the trial version last night and it was the most fun I've had with an FPS in a while.

What really surprised me about it is how terrifying it is when everything goes to hell.

nothing beats capping all the bases except the fuel depot in guadalcanal, then just chilling on the adjacent hill and spawn camping people.

so awesome!

Throwing grenades!

Update for you! Just hit a new high in kills and score:

32 kills/973 points. I didn't get a chance to see how many caps that included.

How come enemy soldier is camping at our ship? Do they land with planes? Drop from sky?

Whenever i spawn i get killed by enemy soldiers :(

they either parachuted to or landed on the ship. don't worry though, they don't get any points for spawn camping your home base!.

But still, it's hella annoying when you try to go to main land with a boat/plane and there's a guy spawnkilling you constantly. Especially if the enemy hold all five flags.

Peeps, post more of your kill stories.

One time I was on the AA gun on the carrier and this one enemy lost a dogfight or something and parashooted on our ship. Started mowning everyone. I noticed that shooting him with AA does nothing, then the planes spawned and he was making a run for 'em. I blew both our planes with AA cannon before he got to 'em. Then I got off and shoot him in the face with a sniper rifle when he tried to get me for those planes. :lol

Another time was near the airfield when I saw on the radar there's enemy tank close by. So this guy drove a tank in the hangar from the back and parked it right behind the plane. I came in the same way and I see the guy getting into the bird. I calmly take over the abandoned death machine and blow the poor dude up right when he was taking off! I didn't even have to aim much, the guy left me everything in perfect position. :lol

Not really a story but I smiled when I was in a boat going for the shore, I look up on the sky and see guys playing chicken. Neither one chickened out. :lol

So many things happen in this game! I love the sound of planes above you and the distant explosions. It's like interactive private ryan.

I can actually play this game now, and I must say that I'm really loving it. I love starting off the game with a good dogfight (the planes are so satisfying to use once you get used to them!). Still need a good, consistent squad of guys to play with, so if you want to play, please add me! PSN is Flunkie44.

I think the sniper in this game is awesome. Never once have I felt cheated if I hit a guy in the leg and he didn't die, nor have I felt better when I get a headshot by leading a guy when he's running.

I'm sniper all the time. He's hardest to use but most satisfing.

I'll only play sniper, usually, if we're ahead and mostly just defending flags (I use it most on Guadalcanal). Otherwise, I play Rifleman almost exclusively.

19 hours? Ahh, so it only counts the time when you're signing in, not signing out. Because I played for quite long after signing in :lol.

Whoever was asking if rifle grenades was the thing to do ATM I'd have to say yes, unfortunately. 80% of my deaths tonight have been rifle nades.

Correct. The leaderboards seem to be on and off though, as it worked properly a couple of times this weekend. Otherwise it's a mess, including a non-sorted friends leaderboard.
