The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Is joining a game with friends still not fixed? (Xbox 360) Tried forming a squad at main menu and finding a match with 2 other friends. "No game available"

The leaderboards appear to be working on the game again.

For anyone who JUST bought the game and played a very small time of it, if you could repeat your current leaderboard position it would be great. I want to know how much this thing has sold in such a short time :)

I don't know, after several hours I'm kind of sick of it already. Miss lot of the details they took out from the original 1942. Nothing but the pacific maps is getting boring.

Ok so I've warmed up to this game a bit. I just wish there were more classes and weapons. I like that the game is chaotic without being overwhelming. It's nice to play in a large battlefield with shit exploding everywhere and not dying every 5 seconds.

Also I've been playing quick matches on PSN without any problems. No lag, no freezes. Only annoyance has been that the game splits up your squad, which is stupid.

But maybe the game is bored with you?

Played it a bunch on Sunday after trying the trial. Damn fun game, marred only by the occasional 360 freeze requiring a power-down. That's the only shitty point. Other than that, playing the 1942 setting with the Bad Company engine is just plain awesome. :)

Yeah, happened to me and my buddy to, we started in the same squad, next game we were on different teams.
Didn't figured that out until this conversation

me: whoo nr1 on the team
buddy: yeah me 2!
me: wait..what?

Sensory overload.

The sound of a plane whizzing past you.
The sight of a plane whizzing by and dropping bombs on the enemy attacking you saving your life.
The sight of two planes in a dogfight.
The sight of a plane bussing the carrier upside down close to the deck.
The sight of a snper in a tower getting blown to shit from a tank, grenade or bomb.
The sound of two planes playing chicken as they whiz past each other.

SNIPERS ONLY READ THIS TOP SECRET

In case you didn't know, you can get into the broken ship and make your way up to a perfect sniping nest. You are covered in shadows, have a shitload of cover, and a roof over your head. If you get headshot after headshot, you could theoretically play the entire round without anyone ever knowing where you were. My last round I blew it and had someone who knew were I was, but they still have to swim to the boat and if you are watching and scanning, you should be able to see them and snipe them as they swim. In short, I'm going to basically turn the boat into my home away from home evertime I can't get a plane and I'm on that map :lol

I tried this 3 rounds in a row and found out 1 thing. NOBODY plays on that side of the map. Ever. I only got like 3 kills at most each game and it sure wasn't from the lack of missing.

I'd really try BC if I were you. Be ready to be amazed.

EXACTLY! And the sound in Bad Company was AMAZING, and I'm shocked the general media has talked more about the high quality sound of the "frostbite" engine. BC, and BF1943 are audio nirvana in digital surround sound, and I can't wait to sample what in store for us with Bad Company 2. :D

I never liked the sound design in these new Battlefield games at all, especially the sound when you're too close to explosions. But maybe that's just me.

I do like the echo when youre far away from gunfire though.

been playing some more BC as well I hope in BC2 they make the maps more suited to Conquest this time. That seems to be my biggest problem that the maps just aren't that great for Conquest and i really don't like Goldrush all that much.

oh and since this game is about 4x as popular as they thought it would be they gotta finish the 42 pacific maps and add midway and invasion of the Philippines, they make the most sense since they woiuld share all the same art assets ect as the existing maps. I know midway is small but they could rework it a bit i'm sure.

Well to be honest the audio in BC is far better than 1943 from what I have heard. I played over 600 games online with BC and the audio never dropped like it does in 43.. something is very off about how it cuts out in 43.. really annoys me where I never noticed it in BC. This and the visual glitches that happen are an indication that they really stripped this engine down to the bare bones to make it downloadable...

I do enjoy the game very much and see myself firing it up often for a long time coming..

Anyone think this $15 'gift' to us from EA and DICE was a way to simply get their game mechanics / gameplay / etc into the hands of a lot of gamers, as a sort of a way to impede on the COD stranglehold on FPS / win over the FPS crowd to what it probably a superior game.

I can totally see that strategy working over time.

&

Is the 'join friends game' putting you into squad yet on PSN? that was the only problem I was having, I could join game, but it wouldnt 'squad us'

&

And is there any way to create a squad in game..that didn't seem to be working last week...

great game.

You’ve misspelled Battlefield 2.
And damn, I’m not a PC master race elitist, and I’m generally happy to welcome console gamers to the fold, but damn, it’s getting hard not to make such jokes.
Seriously, I love this game, but it’s BF light (and it’s fine, it’s designed to be that) if you like this game, main series BF is going to blow your mind.
Just get it, it’s cheap, you can run it on an average computer and people are still playing.

If you have a PS3 get Warhawk.

This game is really fantastic. If only all servers were lagless (or if only you could see your ping), and if only it had less jaggies, it would be near perfect.

Hopefully the PC version fixes these problems. They better go for a server browser, and not matchmaking on the PC!

I bought Warhawk again last night after my friend picked up a PS3. The input lag, deadzone, and aiming acceleration on the controller are soooo bad.

I tried 3 times to get into Warhawk (meaning I bought once and then rented 2 more times later) and every single time I would play for hours and the spawn camping would just destroy my soul. When you are new or not experienced at that game you get destroyed and it is very hard to up your skills when you are spawning every time.

I wanted to like it but I just had to move on.. 43 seems much more open to people who are new to the series.. at least I dont see a ton of issues yet.

man i haven't had any issues with lag at all... i can't remember a single instance of bad lag in all my hours playing over the past two days.

News to me. I though Killzone 2 pioneered those :lol

LOL. I'm enjoying 1943 but there's no way I could say that I love it. there's too many bleh moments for me that far outweigh the good ones. I'm playing it because it's a different experience from CoD and hoping it's something I'll love.

It's fun. I plan to play it more.

But it's nowhere near as good as CoD.

If any game could use spectator mode, this is it. There is so much going on at once it is incredible. Stopping and just taking it all in is satisfying, though it ususally means a death shortly, lol.

It's really most noticeable when sniping from a distance. Depending on your ping, the amount you have to lead the person changes a lot.

See for me having vehicles including planes, destruction and 24 players provides a MUCH more enjoyable variety to the MP than COD ever will.

Spawn at a different location?

Cannot wait for Coral Sea and the Air Superiority game mode...

Map = Yes
Game Mode = No Sure.

I think those that hate flying the planes or panic when they come straight at you, might not enjoy a mode where planes are the dominant feature. :lol

I was only commenting on the sensory overload aspect. It's something I think has become a new standard with BC. Especially the sound design is awesome. Granted, the planes in BF1943 are unrivalled. But seeing an abrams tank fire in the distance and hearing the sound coming afterwards is just as good.

I must confess that I haven't played BF2 in a long time so maybe I'll change my opinion after some minutes of play.

I don't get the LOL-ing....the rest of your response agree's with my post basically.

1 - Its 15 bucks, its not going to be to the quality standards of a $60 title of COD's caliber
2 - Its a different experience as you say, hence it may open people's eyes that there is a different style of play than COD's style (thank god)
3 - Its fun, and you are going to play it more and might just miss all the options in the gameplay that BF offers that COD doesn't

For 15 bucks, I think this is EA's motive...then when the $60 BC2 drops, they'll probably get more sales for that (not more than COD6, but more than they would have sans BF'43), because of this 'gift' to us. They could have charged $30 for this and not been laughed at.

Does anyone know how Air Superiority will work, just team deathmatch with planes, or will there be some more strategy involved (e.g., control air space areas)?

According to an interview on Major Nelson's podcast, it's basically conquest mode in the sky. You fly in a certain zone to capture that air space. It also will have it's own menu option and not be part of the Quick Match rotation.

yeah, vehicles are fucking awesome, for sure. 24 people is one of my issues with it though... it's far too little. the maps feel empty.

however, the vehicles also almost feel useless to me, at least tanks. I've shot people 2-3 times with the fucking TANK GUN dead on and they live. it's fucked up. splash damage alone should be enough to take someone out.. and don't get me started on the sniper rifles :(

that being said, no I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's an absolutely fantastic value, and I'm so excited that they brought an experience like this to live.

I just hope they patch it. Christ... I can't even change teams!

No...you misspelled 1942.
BF2 was just a terribly balanced 1942, but it had more gameplay options.

I'd also rank BF:BC and BF:Heroes above Vietnam, 2, and 2142.:lol

Is there a GAF clan on PS3 for this? Wanting to play with some Gaffers but haven't had many people on my list that are on playing it yet. Everyone is still on Killzone 2. :D

I was saying the same thing to myself while playing last night. I feel like there is little to no splash damage from that tank cannon at all against infantry. Very frustrating.

To me the tank is perfectly balanced. I look at it as more of mobile machine gun platform. The tank's cannon causes chaos and some damage while the machine gunner picks players off. The last thing the tank should be is rolling noob cannon taking out 3-4 guys with every shot.

BattleMonkey said:
Tanks are pathetic. I'm sorry but people should feel some fear at least from the things, they die so easily. Woo, I can blow up some walls!

The tanks are damn good if you know how to use them. The planes though--I still can't hit shit with them.
