The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Success in vehicles is definitely a dance between camera views. Once I started flying in the cock pit view I could actually stay in the sky for more than 10 seconds. :lol

Woohoo, finally topped 1000 points in a game.

I know everyone has different play styles, but I can't see why people wouldn't want to be in a tank. You move more quickly, you have a ridiculous amount of firepower, and you can take a fair bit of punishment before going down. The only thing you have to fear is large groups of enemies when you're not being supported, or the occasional sniper sneaking up behind you.

BF1942's tanks had various vulnerable spots. 2 rockets to the rear armor of the tank would take out out. There was also a sweet spot where the turret met the lower hull, which I believe would sometimes result in a one-shot kill.

Anyone know if this carried over to 43? I haven't done many tests myself...
i did tests
The Faceless Master said:
it takes a helluva lot more than that!

from the front/sides it takes
9 Grenades (they do about 12% damage)
9 Rifle Grenades (they do about 12% damage)
3 Rockets (they do about 35%)

if you aim at the turret and not the base, it takes
[obviously, i'm not gonna aim grenades at the turret]
8 Rifle Grenades (they do about 14% damage)
3 Rockets (they do about 40% damage)

if you shoot it from the back, it takes
4 Grenades (they do about 27% damage)
4 Rifle Grenades (they do about 27% damage)
2 Rockets (they do about 80% damage)

Please tell me they're putting in proper, normal voice comms in BC2. I don't understand why they've taken this squad only voice chat theme with Bad Company and now BF1943 - it's one of my few gripes with this game.

Nice. And agreed. I feel like snipers are just wasting their time and mine, sure they may get a few kills (probably not as much as the other classes on foot) and a nice K/D ratio but they'll never end up with that many total points and are the worst at capping bases.

I agree. I'd love to play as a sniper, but I feel like I'm doing next to nothing in helping my team win.

I just played against some guy who I shot down 7 times in a row, he kept taking the same plane then simply flying straight up into the sky over and over :lol

Gonna disagree with this, I play as sniper class quite a bit and usually have a ton of kills, most captures, and a good k/d.

Most snipers tend to do nothing, and them putting the demolitions ability with snipers who do nothing but sit back most of the game just usually makes no sense. Rarely see any sniper putting down explosives or them doing anything useful in matches. Snipers in BF1942 were more useful as a support role.

I feel the same when flying. It's very rare to get into the top 3 whilst flying..shame :( Seems the only way to really do well is to be a ground trooper..usually a rifleman.

It looks good for buildings but on anything else it's silly.

Yea, but its kinda nice to see the trees falling down as a tank lumbers towards you knocking them down.

Are you always on the radar in this?? or only when shooting / running?

Frostbite engines destruction is pretty shitty, to be honest.

Yeah but it's the only destruction engine out there that looks fucking awesome and not a fucking gimmick!

You're only on the enemy radar when you are spotted i.e. someone looks at you and try to shoot you or stare at you with ironsight. "Enemy Spotted!" or "Tank Spotted" or whatever will show up on top of the screen and everyone will be able to see where you are running for 10 or so seconds.

AH! That makes sense now. Thx.

Buildings-wise, i love it.
Maybe you guys are spoiled by other games [you know, all the people saying this game has shitty graphics etc.]

I think it looks amazing for a XBLA, there's aliasing but...

The explosions and smoke effects are pretty nice in 1943 though. They were never very impressive in the PC iterations.

Is anybody's game keep freezing from time to time ? I'm on a 360 and at first the game was working fine, but know it freezes once out of three games and it gets annoying having to restart the 360 every time it happens. This is the only game I have this problem by the way.

I've had it happen 4 times or so and I've seen a lot of other people complaining about the same thing. So I'm guessing it's not something to be concerned about but it is very annoying.

I am having the same problem actually. It has definitely gotten me gunshy on playing sometimes. It is so frustrating.

I luckily haven't had a freeze, but I have seen that "poly stretching to infinity" mess that happens every once in a while. It's usually a sign that your system is about to die, so it's scary. But, it seems like everyone is seeing it in the game, so I wouldn't be worried.

Yes, it has happened to me once while on the class selection screen.

It's a known issue caused by packet loss on EA's servers. The netcode chokes on it and the game freezes. I would avoid peak hours.

Red Faction: Guerrilla
Very true but Battlefield doesn't revolve around the destruction, the destruction compliments the games sandbox design. On the other hand, Red Faction: Guerrilla feels like a destruction engine with a game designed around it, from the mission design to the environment design. Not to say it isn't fun, however going back to it today, I'm struggling to finish liberating Oasis through an overall sense of tedium towards the game. The multiplayer is still fun as hell.

Back to 1943, I am sick of people thinking they are straight out of top gun because they managed to shoot and plane down in a dogfight. They spend the entire round in the air and have an average total of 50 points at the end of the match.

Finally, I would like to repost the Bad Company 2 video from E3 to show all the 1943 players the improvements to the Frostbite engine already made with roughly a year left in development: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpNG2I_zgjY

People really are morons. If you're a sniper, then please stay the hell out of my squad. Same with the guy who, get this, was swimming around the enemy carrier for the entire match. I accidentally spawned with them a couple of times and it's so freaking annoying.

Playing with a good squad really improves this game a tenfold (or so).

I don't understand the sniper hate. Maybe you just have shitty snipers on your squads, but I usually play as sniper and end up in the top two/three in the match. As long as you continue to move and spawn smartly you can do a lot of good. Even close combat isn't that difficult with the pistol.

I play all three roles within a single round. I play whatever the situation on the battlefield dictates. Whether or not I am a sniper or how high my score is at the end of a round is all secondary to the fun for me. If I can turn the tide of a match with my actions or have a particularly satisfying Battlefield moment, then I am happy. The fact I usually finish in the top 5 if not the top overall most of the time is just secondary to how I play. Perhaps some of you should not worry so much about how many points you score or how few someone else has and just enjoy the game by trying to control and defend the points on the map at all costs.

I wish members of the winning team got an extra bonus or something. Maybe that will make people actually care that our team has no flags and losing badly while they are running around playing deathmatch.

Red Faction: Guerrilla

That's cheating! As pointed out, when RF:Guerrilla was initially announced, it looked like a shitty game with a destructive engine. That's called being gimmicky. Fracture has the exact same problem that the original rendition of RF:Guerrilla had: A great engine but no great way to take advantage of it. After reading all the "LOL!" concerning the game and the "Ostrich hammer!" jokes, they decided to change almost everything about the game. They tweaked things and made it ALOT better than that "tech demo" they first showed. But yes, RF:Guerrilla's engine is a godsend!

Ofcourse, engines can always be tweaked and made better (Refer to source engine). BC2 looks way more awesome than BC and 1943 can ever look (not saying that 1943 looks shitty. It looks FAR greater than any downloadable game out there and better than some of the shit released in retail stores, no offense).

Yup, planes are best for taking out boats at the very beginning of the round then they should just be used to parachute to uncontested flags. Snipers and pilots may be fun but are far less useful.

I agree. I really hope BC2 does more to address this.

Same and if sniping isn't working out that round, I have no problem going infantry/rifleman next time I spawn.

Can someone make quick and simple Ps3/360 pro con list ? I have decided to buy it but just don't know if I should buy it for PS3 or 360.

Flip a coin, they're pretty much identical. There are about twice as many people playing on 360, which means the Coral Sea map will be available there first. Otherwise, pick which controller you like better for FPS games and buy it for that system.

Other than the obvious differences (controller, online friends and connectivity) there really isn't much of a difference. I own both and prefer the PS3 version, but that is mostly due to the fact I could not connect with the X360 version much at all.

If they're not good at it then it sure is annoying. If you're good and can take down 3-4 before you die then it's worth it.

I feel like I've gotten a really good hang on the fighters, but I can't figure out how to line up a bomb drop out of a fighter for the life of me. You can't see where it lands no matter what view so I have no idea if I was on target or missed by a mile. Really frustrating.

But dogfighting is a blast, especially when you get on a roll and shoot down 3+ planes per life.

Besides that, I think pilots and snipers are essentially anti-harrassment. Outside of AA gun (which is mostly useless against good pilots) and dudes who just happen to get the drop on a sniper, they're the best thing to use against each other. I played a game of Guadalcanal yesterday where the opposing team had around 4 snipers and 3 planes and they were effectively shutting all of our offensive down. They kept our planes down and snipers were completely controlling mid map and harassing people spawning away from it.

Oh! This is a great point! I KNEW something was missing from the game. It was the joy of extra 1.5 multiplier when you win the game :lol

this.

i play all roles, generally i play infantry the most because i'm a tank whore, but i do play scout and rifleman if the situation dictates it.

yeah i hope they stick to the BC1 formula of 40 points for winning.

When I was playing Saturday, it really came to me that was missing. I saw so many people trying to do deathmatch near a flag where a battle for control was going on. They didn't care, they were running in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION trying to kill someone. WTF?

We have a goal here and getting the highest score isn't it!

Yes that is true they can be useful for scuppering the enemies attempts to capture an early flag at the start of a round but after that they just become this destraction overhead that very rarely influences infantry combat in any way, to the point that they may as well effectively be playing a completely different game to the players on the ground.

With regards to the sniper class, I would prefer it if DICE completely removed it and replaced it with an MG class capable of supporting their team with suppresive fire, made increasingly more suppresive by the use of great bullet sound effects. This would also promote team play instead of allowing players to become a one man maverick sniper, a fantasy it seems over half of online gamers seem to have.
